Mel B and Geri HalliwellMel B is set to record a duet with her former Spice Girls bandmate Geri Halliwell.

The 38-year-old singer - who formed one fifth of the chart-topping girl band along with Geri, Victoria Beckham, Emma Bunton and Mel C - is back in the recording studio to work on new music and is hoping her close pal will join her on a track.

"I'm definitely doing new music before the end of this year because I've just recorded three hot, hot singles. I'm having dinner with Geri so we will be talking about a collaboration," she said.

Mel enjoyed moderate solo success away from the 'Wannabe' hitmakers, including number one single "I Want You Back" featuring Missy Elliot, but she has largely focused on reality TV judging roles since the band's split in 2000, most recently working on the Australian version of The X Factor and America's Got Talent.

Britney SpearsBritney Spears has hired a vocal coach ahead of her "top secret" announcement.

The "Ooh La La" singer has been teasing fans by adding a countdown to her website for a mysterious revelation that will be shared in 15 days time, but just two weeks before she announces her news, the blonde beauty has been having regular sessions with her voice instructor and working with a choreographer.

"Britney has been using a vocal coach and going to regular sessions and has also been working hard with her choreographer in preparation for what's coming up! With album eight on its way and a rumored Las Vegas residency in the pipeline, eagle-eyed fans have spotted that all of Britney's social networks have adopted a blacked-out theme... the mystery continues!" Britney's publicists said.

Meanwhile, Charli XCX - who co-wrote and featured on Icona Pop's number one hit "I Love It" earlier this year - previously said she has written a song for Britney's new album. "I've been doing some writing for the Britney record. I was freaking out. I didn't even want to go to the session I was so excited. I was so worried I would f**k it up. I was doing some stuff for that yesterday actually. Who knows how it will go. We've written one song and it's a great track and if she likes it then amazing. It was just an honour to be asked," she said previously.

EminemEminem samples Beastie Boys on his new single, "Berzerk." The rapper has unveiled the Dr. Dre and Rick Rubin produced track as the first proper single from his upcoming The Marshall Mathers LP II.

The upbeat song has a number of musical references to old school 80s hip-hop, including the pounding drumbeats and crunchy guitars which are Rick's signature style. The song samples both Beastie Boys' "Fight For Your Right To Party" and Billy Squier's "The Stroke."

In the track Eminem references his alter ego, Slim Shady, and older hip-hop artists rapping, "Let's bring it back to that vintage Slim, bitch / The art of the MCing mixed with da Vinci and MC Ren / And I don't mean Stimpy's friend, bitch / Been Public Enemy since you thought PE was gym, bitch."

The Marshall Mathers LP II is the sequel to Eminem's third album, released in 2000, which is his most successful to date. Eminem - whose real name is Marshall Mathers - had previously been quiet about his comeback, which his friend and Slaughterhouse collaborator, Royce Da 5' 9'', suggested was to retain an air of mystery.

GotyeGotye is having trouble finishing his new album.

The singer-songwriter has begun work on the follow-up to his successful 2011 album Making Mirrors - which included the worldwide mega hit "Somebody That I Used to Know" - but has hit a "hurdle" and says it could be a while before fans hear the results.

Gotye - real name Wally De Backer - told website FasterLouder.com.au, "I've started a bunch of ideas that I really like, but I just seem to have hit a bit of a hump in terms of how I'm connecting that with moving them forward into finished pieces or into songs. When I think about it, it's quite similar to the experience I had in previous years trying to make records: there are always certain bigger hurdles you hit, and you wonder whether you're actually getting anywhere, but maybe you do actually have a lot of stuff under your belt. Very broadly that's where I'm at, I'm just working away."

EminemEminem wants to surprise fans with his new album.

Slaughterhouse members Royce Da 5' 9'' and Joell Ortiz - who are signed to the rapper's own Shady Records label - believe the "Not Afraid" hitmaker is deliberately keeping quiet about his upcoming eighth album because he doesn't want to give anything away until he's completed the final edit.

"Em's whole thing is the element of surprise. That's how it's always been with him," Royce said.

"He gets in to his own world. I too am like him in a way. I like to go in to my cave and get the meat and potatoes of my album done before I venture out because I've gotta figure out the sound. So I'm sure that's probably what he's doing," Joel added.

The 40-year-old superstar has yet to announce a release date or a title for the hotly-anticipated record, but photographs of him in the recording studio with comedian Chris Rock and rappers Big Sean and Kendrick Lamar have surfaced.

Katy Perry and John MayerKaty Perry is featured on John Mayer's new album.

The pop princess has recorded a duet with her on/off boyfriend - whom she got back together with recently after their initial split in March - for his sixth studio album, Paradise Valley. The country-inspired track is called "Who You Love" and is a soulful mid-tempo number, according to Rolling Stone magazine.

The news comes after Katy gave a playful wink and joked, "We're doing a lot of collaborating," when quizzed whether there was any chance of her writing a song with the "Your Body is a Wonderland" hitmaker during her appearance at the Smurfs 2 premiere last month.

John has also teamed up with Frank Ocean for his new LP on a short and poetic song entitled "Wildfire." He previously featured on the hip-hop star's track "Pyramids."

Avril LavigneAvril Lavigne didn't want to sound like "everybody else" on her new album.

The "Sk8er Boi" rock chick feels the music industry has changed since she first broke out in 2002 and she was determined not to fall into the same trends as other artists on her upcoming fifth studio album. "The state of music now is very track-oriented -- modern dance. Sometimes with that type of music you have to be quite careful because it doesn't last long and I always try to have my songs mean something. You have to be careful with changing too much because people fall in love with you and they want you to stay that way. If you do exactly what the sound was at the time, then you sound like everybody else. People who follow the trend and rip all of the other sounds off, they start sounding the same," she explained.

However, fans shouldn't expect the angst-filled lyrics Avril, 28, was once known for on the new record. The "Girlfriend" singer says she is in a different place in her life since becoming engaged to Nickelback frontman Chad Kroeger, and her love life has informed the lyrical content of the untitled album. "Lyrically, I talk more about other stuff these days instead of boy-bashing and break-up songs. Typically, in the past, my natural go-to in songs was boys and love," she added.
