Paul Simon Won’t Record with Art Garfunkel
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Gossip, Folk, Pop, Rock,
Paul Simon doesn't think he'll ever record with Art Garfunkel again.
The iconic duo have not completed an album since Bridge Over Troubled Water - which was released shortly before they split in 1970 - and Paul says there's not much chance they will work together again because he doesn't like to revisit the past.
"There are a couple of issues. One, Art has some problem with his vocal chords and he can't sing in his mid range. So it's really a moot point unless he can sing. From my own perspective, I would just as soon not go back and visit the past. I feel the same way about Graceland. I'm happy to celebrate this 25th anniversary and we're going to play a few concerts but I'd just as soon be quietly making new music."
However, Art has previously said he would like to work with Paul again but admitted there were problems between them: "You'll have to ask him, it takes two to tango. I like to tango, so count me in. You'll just have to bring a psychiatrist in as the third member."

Mumford and Sons have unveiled a new track, "Learn Me Right." The folk-rock group collaborated with vocalist Birdy - who sings lead on the song - which is included on the soundtrack to new animated film Brave.
"It's quite fun doing a song for a movie rather than for an album. We liked the idea of having an orchestra in the background and having a girl like Birdy sing - it's been quite liberating," frontman Marcus Mumford said.

Soundgarden Didn’t Plan Their Reunion
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Artist News, Reunions, Rock,
Soundgarden never intended to reunite.
The group recently got back together after splitting 16 years ago and frontman Chris Cornell admits the reunion only came about when they held meetings to discuss ways of reconnecting with their fans online.
"The idea originally wasn't to restart the band. We got back into a room just to think about ideas of reconnecting with our fans, like starting a website again and starting the fan club again. But after the first five minutes of seeing if anyone had changed or gone weird had passed, it felt really comfortable," Chris said.
The 47-year-old rocker also insisted the group haven't reunited for financial reasons and says they are looking forward to making music in their own way: "We're back for the right reasons. No one is trying to go for the quick money. Now we don't have to try to be like anyone. We are who we are and we do what we want."
Soundgarden play the Download festival on June 10 and Hard Rock Calling on July 13.

Slash is "very proud" of his time in Guns N' Roses.
Despite having success with Velvet Revolver and as a solo artist, the guitarist admits nothing quite compares to when his first band hit the big time in 1987 with their debut album Appetite For Destruction.
"I'm very proud of what we did in that band, but it's nice to be recognized for something you've got going on right now," he said.
The 46-year-old musician includes songs from his time in both Velvet Revolver and Guns N' Roses in his solo sets and he enjoys the freedom he now he isn't in a group: "I'm not a dictator, there are no egos - everybody has great ideas for the songs. Every band I've ever been in I tried to make it always just about the music, never about who was the star."
Slash famously fell out with Guns N' Roses singer Axl Rose in the 90s, and he, along with the other original members, left the hard rock group. Axl refused to attend the classic line-up's induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame earlier this year insisting he felt disrespected by the organization.

Rob Zombie thinks the Grammy awards are "pathetic."
The veteran heavy metal singer doesn't like what the awards show, because he doesn't feel the performers put in as much energy as real rock bands do.
"Rock bands can deliver it live, whereas a lot of pop act - you watch the Grammys and it's pathetic sometimes. You know, 60-year-old Bruce Springsteen comes out and he rocks and whatever pop star of the moment comes out and lip-synchs through some pathetic performance and you're like, 'Really? Is this what it's come down to?'" he told The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Rob - has been nominated three times as a solo artist for the Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance - thinks heavy music has been pushed aside in recent years, but is excited to be making a new album now, as it is ready to make a comeback.

Black Sabbath Drummer Quits Reunion Shows
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Concerts / Tours, Reunions, Rock,
Black Sabbath drummer Bill Ward will not take part in the bands reunion shows.
The original line up of the group - Bill, Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi and Geezer Butler - came together last year to play a series of shows and record their first album together in 33 years, but Bill has backed out of the project, saying he won't agree to the contract he was offered.
"I sincerely regret to inform you that after a final effort to participate in the upcoming Sabbath shows a failure to agree has continued. It is with a very sad heart that I bring you this news. I have to stand for something, and as painful as it is, I'm doing it," he wrote on his website.
Shortly after the band announced their reunion in November, and started work on the new album, Tony was diagnosed with lymphoma. As a result of his treatment the band's planned tour had to be cut to just three dates, starting in their hometown, Birmingham, England, on Saturday. The band will also close Britain's Download Festival on June 10 and perform at the Lollapalooza festival in the US on August 3.

Vampire Weekend Ready for Third Album

Vampire Weekend have "many songs" ready for their third album.
The "Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa" group are working on their next album and plotting to take their sound into uncharted territory. "The goal is to do something new with each record. I like the idea of being able to do your own thing, and then also coming together and making a band record," said bassist Chris Baio, who is also preparing his first solo release.
However, the group have no definite release date for the record, with Chris adding, "It'll be done when it's done. That's where it is now."
Chris' solo tracks are much more influenced by dance music, and he says he started the project as soon as he got off the road with Vampire Weekend, which also includes Ezra Koenig, Rostam Batmanglij and Chris Tomson.
"I've loved dance music for a long time. When I got off the road, I knew I would have some time off. It affects me badly if I'm just sitting around, so I just started making music straight away," he added to NME magazine.

Freddie Mercury to Appear on Stage as an ‘Optical Illusion’
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Artist News, Performances, Rock,
Freddie Mercury is to appear on stage as an "optical illusion."
The late Queen front man - who passed away in 1991 - will seem to perform for an audience at musical We Will Rock You, which is based on the band's music, to mark the tenth anniversary of the show in London.
Queen guitarist Brian May told BBC news the new "effect" was "an optical illusion of sorts." He added, "People will come out saying, 'did we actually see Freddie?'" However, Brian said the effect used will be different to the hologram technology which made late rapper Tupac Shakur appear on stage and perform at Coachella festival in California last month.
"It's a little unfortunate they did that thing with Tupac as we've been trying to make Freddie appear on the stage for quite a while The hologram technique is something we've looked at ourselves but I think probably for a show that runs eight shows a week it's not really practical."
The special edition show of We Will Rock You will take place on May 14 at London's Dominion Theatre. Queen have previously made live appearances where Freddie appears to sing the band's hit "Bohemian Rhapsody" using a backing track and video footage of him singing the song.

Aerosmith’s New Album Almost Complete
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Artist News, Release Dates, Upcoming Releases, Rock,
Aerosmith will release their new single in "three or four weeks."
The veteran "Walk This Way" rockers are putting the finishing touches to the follow up to 2004's Honkin' On Bobo and excited the record - which they say will sound "modern and hi-fi" - is almost complete.
"It's really close. We've started to mix. We've mixed a couple of the songs already, but I guess this week we're really kind of rolling into mix mode. We have a couple of tracks left to finish up, just to put some overdubs on, but we're kind of going from the final, final recording tracks to mixing this week. The record's gonna sound modern and hi-fi. We're not sitting around going, 'We're gonna do Night in the Ruts again or Rocks again.' We want to make a modern sounding record, but the main thing is the energy that the early records had," guitarist Joe Perry told Rolling Stone magazine.
The new track "Legendary Child," which is likely to feature on the record, will also appear on the soundtrack to new film G.I. Joe: Retaliation. Singer Steven Tyler said the recording of the song was great, especially Joe's contribution on guitar: "It's gonna be slammin'. Joe was on fire. Wait, you'll see."

Blink 182 Cancels US Tour
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Artist News, Concerts / Tours, Alternative, Pop, Rock,
Blink 182 have canceled a series of tour dates after Travis Barker had to undergo emergency surgery.
The "All the Small Things" band's drummer had have an urgent medical procedure on his tonsils, forcing them to cancel all further shows in their current US tour, which runs until the end of the month.
"The band apologizes for any inconvenience as a result of these cancellations and thanks their fans for their ongoing support," a statement on the band's website reads. The note added Travis' "recovery period is expected to extend beyond the scheduled tour dates."
It is not yet known if the band's later dates in the UK and Europe, starting in June, will be affected by Travis' condition. The group - which also includes Mark Hoppus and Tom DeLonge - have already had to reschedule their tour once, after it was originally supposed to start in July last year, but dates were pushed back in order to allow the group to finish sixth album Neighborhoods.
