Muse has included jazz, brass and dubstep on The 2nd Law.
The band unveiled the first track from their sixth album, "Survival" - the official song of the London Olympics - last night, and have promised it contains a diverse range of musical styles: "There's a bigger emphasis on groove, we've always tried to improve on that with every album and I think on two or three tracks we've really nailed it. There's a couple of tracks where we've captured the other side of us too, they're quite minimal. There's a really jazzy brass number, I even tried to get a sax solo," singer Matt Bellamy said.

Florence + the Machine Working on Dance Side Project
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Artist News, Upcoming Releases, Dance, Rock,
Florence and the Machine are working on a dance music side project.
The indie band - fronted by singer Florence Welch - have secretly been making "weird" dance records in their spare time, but she is unsure if it will be released.
"We actually have a dance outfit side project called Side Project. We made this weird house track that sounded quite churchy - to be confirmed! As yet it has never seen the light of day," she said.
Florence also said she was pleased with DJ Calvin Harris' remix of their recent single "Spectrum," as it had caught the perfect balance between happy and sad which she is looking for: "I'm such a huge fan of his. What I enjoy about Calvin's songs is that he has that blend of euphoric and melancholic which as an artist he has managed to perfect. It's that mix of catchy and sad - that feeling of complete joy but something tugging at your insides. That's what makes a great pop song and I really think he's coined that."

Metallica’s Lars Ulrich ‘Regressed’ at Drumming

Metallica's Lars Ulrich feels he's "regressed," when it comes to playing drums.
The sticksman may have been with the band for 30 years, but joked he doesn't feel like he's getting better with age. When asked about his abilities, he told Drum!, "I usually feel like I've regressed. I'm like, 'Why can't I do that anymore?'"
Lars, 48, admitted he doesn't regularly practice in order to get better, but uses the drums as a workout: "What happens is I just sit down and kind of play to just more stay in shape. You know, Metallica was up to two or three months off last year, and I would sit down, I have an iPod next to my drums so I can play along to all kind of crazy stuff, but I can't say that I sit down to necessarily practice to sort of get better."
He also talked about how he was excited when listening back to tracks on the band's Beyond Magnetic EP - recorded during sessions for their Death Magnetic album in 2007 and 2008 - and how lively the results were:

Keith Richards says that "the door is wide open," for Jack White to produce The Rolling Stones.
The legendary "Paint it Black" band's guitarist said they are meeting next month to discuss plans to celebrate their 50th anniversary, and he is keen for them to head to the studio.
"I'd love to get some tracks down and see what songs we've got. And that goes along with part of getting the band back together and getting things moving. So I'd love to cut some tracks, yeah," he told Rolling Stone.
When asked if blues renaissance man Jack - a friend of Keith who worked on some demo material with him in 2009 - would produce the new material, he replied, "That's always a possibility. The door is wide open."

Smashing Pumpkins Frustrated by Fans
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Concerts / Tours, Alternative, Rock, New Releases,
Smashing Pumpkins get frustrated when fans just want to hear their old songs.
Frontman Billy Corgan says despite all the work he puts into writing new material, fans often just want them to play the classics:
"We met this wall resistance like, 'It's nice you guys want to move forward, but can't you just play the old songs?' I've had five years of 'Can't you just play the old songs?' The whole time, all I've done is put my head down and try to make new music. You reach a point of literal frustration where you start going, 'Maybe this is never going to move forward? Maybe the vague 'they' out there will never accept The Smashing Pumpkins of this time?'"
However, concertgoers could be disappointed next time they're at a show because Billy says they plan to play their latest offering Oceania in its entirety with only few fan favorites thrown in:

Green Day Releasing Dance Track

Green Day have a dance music track on their new trilogy.
The American Idiot band are releasing three albums, titled ¡Uno!, ¡Dos! and ¡Tre! and on one track, "Kill the DJ," attempted to emulate electronic music.
"Mike [Dirt, bassist] asked me to write a song with a four-on-the-floor rhythm. I'd never done it before. It's kind of like [The Clash's] 'Sandinista!,' Ian Dury's 'Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll' and the Tom Tom Club song, 'Genius of Love.' We were trying to figure out how to make dance music without turning into a dance band," said singer Billie Joe Armstrong.
Billie also explained the reason the band are releasing three albums is because they wanted to do something "dangerous," but even though there are three separate discs, it still counts as one album under their record contract:

Radiohead have postponed a string of European concerts.
The "Karma Police" hitmakers are delaying seven shows which were due to take place at the end of this month and the beginning of next following the collapse of their stage in Toronto last weekend, which resulted in the death of one crew member and injuries to three others.
"Whilst we all are dealing with the grief and shock ensuing from this terrible accident there are also many practical considerations to deal with & consequently we have to try and reschedule," they said in a statement.
The statement also noted that the tragedy had "destroyed" the group's spectacular light show, so the postponement of the shows will help put the visuals back together: "The collapse also destroyed the light show - this show was unique and will take many weeks to replace. The collapse also caused serious damage to our backline, some elements of which are decades old and therefore hard to replace."

Lady Gaga Approves of Alice Cooper’s ‘Born This Way’

Lady Gaga has given her seal of approval to Alice Cooper's version of "Born This Way."
Shock rock legend Alice has recently started playing his own heavy version of the "Bad Romance" singer's track live, and said she was impressed when she heard it.
"Gaga loved it, she emailed us - she's in Australia right now - and said she loved it, I just thought it was such a great track, and the lyrics, 'My momma told me when I was young / she did my hair and put my lipstick on,' for Alice Cooper to sing that, it's funny," Alice said.
The "Under My Wheels" singer also explained he prepared the song especially to appeal to the young crowd at last weekend's Bonnaroo festival: "We figured 15 to 25 was probably the average age out there, and I was thinking of a song that would be of their generation, so I said, 'What about "Born This Way"?' Because that song could be a rock song, it just needed a different attitude."
