The Black Keys Confirm New Album

The Black Keys are planning a new album for 2013.
The "Lonely Boy" group are planning to follow up 2011's El Camino with their eighth album early next year. Drummer Patrick Carney told KROQ, "We're going to start making a new album in January and we're going to tour a little more in the spring. Our plan is to have the new album done by the end of spring or earlier, then hopefully take a few months off to do normal things like go to bed early and wake up early, walk the dog, that kind of stuff. Then we'll probably be back on the road starting next fall."
While the band are known for how hard they work, Patrick - who recently married Emily Ward - is adamant they will have a break next year. "Whenever we try to build in breaks and time off, it doesn't work out. But next year, we're also committed to a vacation," he added.

Bruno Mars’ Creative Freedom

Bruno Mars had "creative freedom" on Unorthodox Jukebox. The "Locked out of Heaven" singer is preparing the release of his second album, and enjoyed skipping between different genres on each track of the album.
"This is me going into the studio and recording and writing whatever I want. This album represents my freedom. I listen to a lot of music and I want to have the freedom and luxury to walk into a studio and say, 'Today I want to do a hip-hop, R&B, soul or rock record,'" he told Billboard.
The 26-year-old singer said his desire to keep changing his sound between songs wasn't popular with record executives at the beginning of his career, when he was dropped by the Universal Motown label: "I've had big record label presidents look me in the face and say, 'Your music sucks, you don't know who you are, your music is all over the place, and we don't know how to market this stuff. Pick a lane and come back to us. That was disgusting to me, because I'm not trying to be a circus act."

Muse Makes Live Return

Muse made their live return in London last night.
The "Survival" trio closed the annual iTunes festival in spectacular fashion, treating fans to a selection of material from their new album The 2nd Law, as well as classic tracks from their back catalogue.
Although the smaller venue meant the group did away with their usual stunning laser show and complex stage setting, video screens running around the venue and frontman Matt Bellamy's dazzling sparkling jacket meant there was still a visual spectacle accompanying the music.
The group opened their set with "Supremacy," with Matt taking the opportunity to reveal one of his heroes was in the crowd. "That last song was a little bit influenced by a certain Jimmy Page - who I believe is in the building," he said after the song.
While preview material has hinted at the trio going in a dub-step direction, Matt used the show to prove their experimentation isn't new. Introducing 2003 single "Time Is Running Out," he quipped, "Listen to the dub-step bassline on this."

Oasis will never reunite because they have nothing to achieve. The group split in August 2009 due to the feud between brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher and the guitarist thinks there is no point in them getting back together because they could never be bigger than they were at their peak.
"I get asked on a daily basis about a reunion and I say to people, 'To achieve what?' I can understand The Stone Roses because they're bigger now than they ever were. We couldn't be bigger than we were because we were the biggest thing that ever was. What do we do - three nights at [venues] Wembley? Three nights at Heaton Park? Knebworth? We already did it all. Do it again? What's the point?" Noel said.
Noel believes it is more important that Beady Eye - the band formed by Liam and the remaining members of Oasis - should work on living up to the claims they made about their music when they first got together. "They've got things to do, Beady Eye. They've got a lot of graft to do since their singer proclaimed them to be the greatest band in the f***ing world. They need to get a move on with that. I've got no desire to get into a reunion. Not even for starving children," he added.

Marcus Mumford Denies Babel’s Christian Faith Statement

Marcus Mumford denies Babel symbolizes Mumford and Sons' Christian faith. The frontman - whose father was a vicar - insists the album isn't a statement of their religious views and the band are more driven by "spirituality."
"The LP is not a statement of faith. We don't feel evangelical about anything, really, other than music. I don't even call myself a Christian. Spirituality is the word we engage with more. We're fans of faith, no religion," he said.
The "Little Lion Man" singer also clarified his lyrics to "Whisper In The Dark," which reference God. "The lyric, 'I set out to serve the Lord,' no-one realizes it's pluperfect tense. The lyric is 'I had set out to serve the Lord.' It's looking back at a time when that happened," he explained.

Muse Explore Electronica and Funk

Muse were inspired by Prince on The 2nd Law.
The British rock legends have embraced electronic music as well as funk on their new album, taking them back to their very earliest influences. "Yep, funk! What are we doing? But 'Panic Station' is a track that reminds me of my youth. Prince, Primus and Michael Jackson all influenced that song," drummer Dominic Howard said.
Frontman Matt Bellamy took a new approach with the track "Unsustainable" and despite many people being skeptical, he is pleased with the end results. "For 'Unsustainable' I wanted to write the idea electronically and when we came to record it, we did it with real, organic instruments and got a real orchestra in. We were trying to see if real instruments could make a sound like electronica. A lot of people were sceptical about it but it works."

Gotye OK Being a One Hit Wonder

Gotye doesn't mind being seen as a one hit wonder. The singer's track "Somebody That I Used to Know" has been one of the biggest singles of the year worldwide, and he doesn't mind if it's his only successful track.
"I would take a sort of perverse pleasure if a certain part of the public think of me as a one-hit-wonder. I'd be in some good company," he told NME.
The Australian musician added he knows his real fans have been listening to his sound develop over three albums, but accepts most people will only associate him with his mega hit. "If I go on to never make any music that is as commercially successful as this and that means that there's a divide between some people's perception of me in the pop sphere versus the actual music I've made, and people actually taking the time to listen to the rest of it, then I think that's actually kind of interesting."

Slipknot will headline Download 2013.
The "Wait and Bleed" hitmakers will take to the stage at the rock event held at Donington Park in Derbyshire, England, on Friday June 14, 2013. They join Iron Maiden and Rammstein, who will headline the festival on Saturday June 15 and Sunday June 16 respectively.
"We are extremely honored to have been asked once again to headline the Download Festival. This most definitely will be an experience not to be missed. Every time we've played Download we have created memories. It's always good to have the church of the Knot, the altar of the Knot, giving the sermon of the Knot to the congregation of the Knot, the culture of the Knot. This summer cannot come soon enough. No Doubt: ‘Push and Shove Is Awesome’

No Doubt feel every song on their new album is "pretty awesome."
Guitarist Tom Dumont - who is joined in the band by Gwen Stefani, Tony Kanal and Adrian Young - admits the new LP Push and Shove is not the kind of work where you have to skip past filler tracks as he thinks they are all very good: "I love all the songs on the album, and I think for me, personally, I love albums the most where you don't have to forward past filler, and I don't want to presume to make that judgment on our album, but for me, I feel like every song is pretty awesome."
However, he is particularly enamored with the final song on the album because it has a feeling of a "prom" theme. "The last song on the album is called 'Dreaming the Same Dream,' and as we were writing it, we were trying to do this prom song, and there's just something about it that I love. It has this amazing ending that ends the album really powerfully. Right now, that's my jam," he said.

Mumford and Sons Nervous About Headlining Arenas

Mumford and Sons are nervous about headlining arenas. The band have just released their second album Babel and announced a huge run of shows - including their first ever arenas in the UK - and are worried about making their sound big enough to fill such huge spaces.
"We've only ever done five [arenas] I think. We did three in Canada, one in Portland, Oregon and one in Amsterdam and it was quite difficult. Big respect to bands who do arenas because, it's a big space to fill," band member Winston Marshall said. "It's hard to connect but it's also kind of epic and a part of us always wanted to achieve those things," band member Ben Lovett added.
