Cyndi Lauper and Adam Lambert are set to record a duet of "Mad World."
The pair previously collaborated on a live version of the Tears for Fears track in aid of Cyndi's charities, and were so pleased with the results they want to cut a studio version. "Adam and Cyndi talked after their performance. They want to record their duet of 'Mad World' at the studio and release it. It's just a project they want to do for fun," a source said.

David Bowie Single Banned from Charts

David Bowie's new single has been banned from the UK charts.
The legendary singer released "Where Are We Now?" - his first track in 10 years - on Tuesday to coincide with his 66th birthday and it shot straight to the top of the iTunes downloads chart. But as well as being sold, it is also being given away to fans who pre-order his album, so chart bosses say it cannot be counted.
The Official Charts Company said, "It is not possible to distinguish album sales from track sales from the retail data."
Bowie's album, The Next Day, is out in March but already tops the iTunes chart with advance orders.
Yesterday, it was revealed Bowie wanted his new album cover to be as "minimal and undesigned as possible." The main picture on The Next Day was made by the singer with design company Barnbrook, and features the cover of his 1977 album Heroes in black and white, with the middle part obscured by a white block featuring the album's title.

Dave Grohl’s Supergroup Unveiled

Dave Grohl's Sound City Players supergroup will include John Fogerty and Stevie Nicks. Former Creedance Clearwater Revival singer John and and Fleetwood Mac vocalist Stevie will join Dave when he unveils the all-star band at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah on January 18.
The band will play at the festival to premiere Dave's new film, Sound City, a documentary about the recording studio of the same name in California. The supergroup will also feature Nirvana bassist Krist Novoselic; Cheap Trick's Rick Nielsen; Foo Fighters members Chris Shiflett, Taylor Hawkins, Pat Smear and Nate Mendel; Rage Against the Machine's Brad Wilk and Slipknot's Corey Taylor, among others.
The band are expected to play songs from the soundtrack to Sound City, which was written and recorded especially for the film.

Kid Rock is "disappointed" with Maroon 5.
The "American Bad Ass" rapper-turned-singer thought the "Payphone" group showed promise when they first came out, but is sad that they have turned into a pop act: "So many people don't [evolve as artists] - they just go for the common denominator. I thought that when Maroon 5 came out they were making some pretty good music and now they've just become pop artists, its disappointing man. You hit that pop stardom, man, you find out one day that they don't give a flying f**k about your ass."
Kid, 41, also said he's very proud of the message of his new track "Cucci Galore," as it reminds him of the anger his older tracks had. "'Cucci Galore' is a real, 'middle finger in the air' Kid Rock song. As I've said before, when I was young I didn't invent 'F**k you,' I just perfected it," he said.
Kid Rock's ninth studio album Rebel Soul is out now.

Bob Dylan has produced just 100 copies of his new album.
The 71-year-old singer's record label, Sony, decided to create the super-limited edition four-CD album, entitled The 50th Anniversary Collection, to avoid losing control of the songs under European Union copyright rules. The album features 86 live tracks and studio outtakes recorded by Dylan in 1962-63, including a previously unheard version of his classic "Blowin' In The Wind."
According to sources at Sony, the compilation isn't really meant for mass consumption and is just an attempt to keep the tracks from entering the public domain. "This isn't a scheme to make money. The whole point of copyrighting [this material] is that we intend to do something with it at some point in the future. But it wasn't the right time to do it right after [Dylan] released Tempest," a source explained to Rolling Stone.
The 100 copies have been sent to specialist record collector shops in Britain, Germany, France and Sweden, and the rare item is already being sold for $1,600 on eBay.

Mumford & Sons, Rihanna and Taylor Swift are among the first performers confirmed for the 2013 Grammy Awards. Fun. and The Black Keys will also hit the stage at the biggest night in American music, which takes place on February 10.
All of the performers are nominated at the 55th annual music industry awards, with Mumford & Sons, The Black Keys and Fun. leading the pack with six nods apiece, along with Jay-Z, Kanye West and Frank Ocean.
Fun. are nominated in categories including Album of the Year for their debut, Some Nights, Record of the Year and Song of the Year for the Janelle Monae-featuring hit "We Are Young," and Best New Artist.
The Black Keys' seventh album El Camino is up for Album of the Year and Best Rock Album, while single "Lonely Boy" is nominated for Record of the Year. Mumford & Sons' chart-topping album Babel will also compete for Album of the Year.

David Bowie Releases New Single

David Bowie has released a new single ahead of his first new album in a decade.
The legendary singer released the song "Where Are We Now?'" on iTunes to coincide with his 66th birthday today, while the album The Next Day, will be available from March.
His son, film director Duncan Jones, announced the news on Twitter this morning. In a series of tweets, he said, "So... First off, its midnight in NY. That means, a HUGE HAPPY BIRTHDAY is in order to my very lovely, very talented dad! Been ten years since his last album.... Would be lovely if all of you could spread the word about da's new album. First in ten years, and its a good 'un! (sic)"
The single - produced by long-term collaborator Tony Visconti and written by Bowie and was recorded in New York - is accompanied by a video directed by Tony Oursler that pays homage to Bowie's time in Berlin, with his face projected onto the body of a puppet.

Kurt Cobain Biopic Will “Embody” the Late Musician

Brett Morgan's film about Kurt Cobain will be an "embodiment of his character."
The director has been making a feature based on the late Nirvana frontman's life with his widow, Courtney Love, for the past five years and hopes it will capture all the different parts of the singer's personality. "It'll be an embodiment of his character. If you think about Kurt, he's a contradiction. He could be sincere and sentimental, and also ironic and sarcastic. He was sweet and sour. He was incredibly funny too. The film has to reflect his spirit. The thing about him people might not know too is that he was an incredible visual artist and left behind a treasure chest of comic books, paintings, Super8 films, all sorts," he told NME Magazine.
Brett also aims to be "ambitious" with his film style and is taking inspiration from Pink Floyd's 1982 film The Wall, which saw the band's album of the same name play over a cartoon depicting the songs and showing the construction and eventual demolition of a huge dividing wall.

Vampire Weekend Promise a “Darker” Third Album

Vampire Weekend's new album will be "darker and a bit spookier."
The indie rockers are busy working on the follow-up to 2010's Contra, and have opted for a more old-fashioned sound with eerie lyrics and haunting undertones.
"Lyrically it's a bit darker, a bit spookier at times. It definitely feels more nocturnal than anything we've done before. Musically there's a lot of organic tones. There's some old sounds that have been around forever, like the sounds that bands in America started with. [It goes] back to the roots of music being recorded or being played in a room by a band, " explained Rostam Batmanglij.
The "Horchata" hitmakers ignored pressure to rush release their album last year and are taking their time to craft their new opus, which they believe needs to maintain the same level of "excellence" fans have come to expect.

Bon Jovi have announced their new album, What About Now.
The legendary "Livin' On a Prayer" group are set to return with their twelfth album in March, preceded by a new single, "Because We Can," which is available on iTunes from today. The album will also feature the track "Not Running Anymore," which is used in the soundtrack of new movie Stand Up Guys and has been nominated for Best Original Song at this year's Golden Globe Awards.
The band are also on tour from February in support of the album, starting in the US before coming to Europe later in the summer.
Lead singer Jon Bon Jovi, 50, recently said the key to the band's longevity has been their work ethic: "The secret of our success is hard work, good luck and being true, and we never disappoint live, so that people will come back. They know they'll get their money's worth. We won't play for 40 minutes then throw a tantrum. We're lucky we've got people at our shows from all generations, we've got kids to teenagers to people in their 60s! That's what I always hoped to do, like the Rolling Stones."
