Elle Macpherson is Happy to Age

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Health & Beauty, Models,

Elle MacphersonElle Macpherson isn't worried about turning 50.

The 48-year-old supermodel - who was once nicknamed "The Body" - is happy to embrace getting older as she doesn't think being younger always means being more beautiful.

"I don't believe that youth equals beauty or beauty equals youth. How I feel, how well I am is more important to me. It doesn't bother me becoming 50 at all, the alternative is death, so that is not an option. I rather like the idea of flowing on with life. I have had amazing life experiences and hopefully another 50 years of experiences ahead of me."

Elle - who has two children, Flynn, 14, and nine-year-old Cy, nine, with former partner Arpad Busson - recently renewed her contract with cosmetics brand Revlon and says it makes her feel the attitude of brands toward older people is changing: "That tells me this is not an ageist society, and Revlon is a modern company."

Halle Berry ‘Hardly’ Wears Make-Up

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Celebrities, Health & Beauty,

Halle BerryHalle Berry "hardly ever" wears make-up.

The 45-year-old actress prefers to go for a natural look and give her skin "a break" when she is out and about, and counts a good "lip balm" as beauty must-have.

"I hardly ever wear make-up. I like to give my skin a break - let it breathe," she said.

Despite going make-up free on regular occasions, Halle admits to being a big fan of using Kinara Spa skincare products and sunscreen, as well as snubbing smoking and excessive drinking to keep her skin healthy: "It's cleansing your skin, watching what you eat, no smoking, not too much drinking, no sugar - just simple. And using sunscreen! If you don't have a good base, then it doesn't matter what you put on it - it's not going to look as great as it could."

Halle - who has four-year-old daughter Nahla - recently opted for a curly hairstyle for her latest film, The Hive, and she sees her new-look locks as a fashion accessory "like a handbag or pair of shoes."

Make-up Artist Emma Watson

Emma WatsonEmma Watson loves doing people's make-up. The Harry Potter actress loves applying cosmetics to her friends and family and is always happy to pass her beauty tips on to them.

"I love doing make-up. I did my mum's make-up for all her job interviews and whenever I go out, I do their make-up too. My specialty? I like quite a natural look, but I do everything really. People underestimate the power of an eyebrow. I recently got my friend into penciling hers in, which she thought was such a strange concept at first," she said.

However, Emma is aware that much beauty advice contradicts other snippets of wisdom so advises people not to listen to everything they are told: "Don't listen to everyone. It's kind of overwhelming, especially with your diet and skincare. You get so many different pieces of advice, you don't know what to listen to. I think people need to judge what works for them and trust their intuition."

Dita Von Teese Perfected Her Look

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Celebrities, Health & Beauty, Models,

Dita Von TeeseDita Von Teese used to practice her beauty routine. The burlesque dancer is famed for her glamorous look but admits it's taken years to get it right and find a look that suited her.

"It depends on my time clock how long I need to get ready. Whether I have two minutes, or I have five minutes or if I have an hour. For example a quick day to day routine for five minutes would be mascara, powder and red lipstick and hair in a chignon. Once a woman has established what her look is and her routine is - you can practice and then get very quick. I've been practicing for such a long time."

However, Dita - who recently launched her own perfume - says she still needs a mirror when getting ready because her look is so precise: "No mirror? I definitely need a mirror but mine is very precise style. Steady hand I've been painting that eyeliner for 22 years. You certainly can't do a cat eye with no mirror. And you can't do it on the go either - it is too precise!"

Lily Cole Won’t Experiment with Make-up

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Health & Beauty, Models,

Lily ColeLily Cole doesn't like experimenting with make-up. The 23-year-old model favors a natural look and has particular products she always uses, and says the only thing she changes is her lip color.

"I like Chanel's Vitalumiere Aqua foundation and go for taupe colors, a really natural look. I like products that enhance, rather than mask, your face. I don't tend to experiment a lot with make-up, I just do what I do, but I like to play with different lip colors," she said.

Lily - who has teamed up with The Body Shop for her first make-up range - particularly favors a minimal make-up look during the warmer months, but stays away from fake tan because of her naturally pale complexion: "In summer I think less is more. I like La Roche-Posay sunscreens, and use make-up with an SPF. Bronzing is tricky - it ends up looking orange on my fair skin - so I prefer a deep pink blush like Lily Cole Lip & Cheek Dome in Pinch Me Pink. You can layer it from a sheer color to a warm flush.

Mena Suvari’s Fresh Food Beauty Tip

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Celebrities, Health & Beauty,

Mena SuvariMena Suvari has great skin because she eats so much fresh food.

The American Reunion star is considered one of the most beautiful women in Hollywood, and she says her beauty regime is based on diet first, then cosmetics: "My father was European so there was always fresh food in the house. People get caught up in trying to treat themselves from the outside in and it's really about what you do on the inside."

Mena lives a very healthy lifestyle and doesn't drink alcohol anymore. Instead, the 33-year-old actress prefers to spend her evenings at home relaxing: "I like staying at home. I've definitely been there, done that I don't drink anymore and I don't really go out. For me, I know what works."

Carrie Underwood Does Her Own Make-Up

Carrie UnderwoodCarrie Underwood does her own hair and make-up. The 29-year-old singer loves to "play" with her stage appearance because she can try more outrageous styles than she would in her everyday life and finds the preparation relaxing before she performs.

"[I do it all myself], that's two people I don't have on tour. When you're on stage, it's a little bit different than real life. You can kind of pile it on - and you need to for things to show up. It's kind of whatever, you can play. You can do things you wouldn't really do. You can put glitter on your eyes. Big hair. The bigger, the better. It's fun. It's a nice relaxing time, a calm before the storm, if you will."

Carrie also admitted she dreams of having darker hair, but people are reluctant to change her look, though she has vowed never to chop her locks short: "I'd love to switch things up a little bit, but think everyone [else] is scared to do it. I wanted to dye my hair darker. I'm like, 'Let's change my hair color.' We'll do something for like two hours, then I'll walk away, and I'm like, 'This looks the same as before.' Maybe someday I'll do something a little more drastic. I don't think I'm meant for short hair though. I don't feel as pretty when I chop it off, which I have done before."

Salma Hayek: Beauty Business Underestimates Me

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Celebrities, Health & Beauty,

Salma HayekSalma Hayek believes people often "underestimate" her in the beauty business because of her acting background.

Despite having released her own line of skincare products called Nuance Salma Hayek, and having co-founded popular juice cleanse company Cooler Cleanse, the 45-year-old mother-of-one still feels that people don't always take her seriously.

"Because I have a background in a different field, it can be hard to negotiate and make a good deal for myself. People always underestimate me. But if you stick around long enough, act out of conviction, and try to be honorable in everything you do, good things will come to you. I have seen karma work in this business," she said.

Nuance features 100 different products from cleansers and spot treatments, through to anti-aging creams and cosmetics, and as the granddaughter of a Paris-trained cosmetologist, Salma worked on each item from start to finish: "I don't know that many people in my position who would actually put that much time into it. It's a lot easier to get a contract or say that you are doing the work when it's really someone else. I don't think my own agency - or even I - knew how stubborn I was going to be."

Ashley Greene: Make-Up Can be Dangerous

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Celebrities, Health & Beauty,

Ashley GreeneAshley Greene believes wearing make-up constantly can be '"dangerous" for your self-esteem.

The 25-year-old Twilight actress often forces herself to go bare-faced, just to ensure she doesn't become too emotionally dependent on beauty products.

"I think it's dangerous to get too comfortable with needing makeup. You kind of lose yourself, and you don't think you're pretty without it. It creates this whole downward spiral," she explained.

Now considered something of a style icon, the natural brunette admits she has made many a style faux pas in the past, particularly with her hair: "My hair's been every color under the sun, and some are good and some are bad. I think the biggest mistake I ever made was when one of my friends was like, 'You should just iron your hair with an iron.' It was not good at all. It was just stick-straight. I was probably around 14 when I did that; I did a lot of dumb things at 14. That was bad. I used to also scrunch my hair. I used entirely too much hair gel. It was highly flammable, extremely crunchy. I feel you like you could break it. It was not a good look for me."
