Two Stars Injured After April 16 Games

Description
Both Alfonso Soriano of the Chicago Cubs and Vladimir Guerrero of the Los Angeles Angels were left bruised and in pain during their respective games on Monday. Guerrero had the less severe of the two injuries, as he suffered a bruised right wrist after getting hit by a pitch delivered by the Boston Red Sox’s Josh Beckett. Vlad left the game after getting medical attention from Angels’ team trainer.

Guerrero’s X-ray results taken at Fenway Park came back negative, but despite the bad news Guerrero maintained, “I’m ok.” Angels manager Mike Sciosia says Guerrero will be day-to-day.

Alfonso Soriano may not be as lucky however. He left in the fifth inning of his game against the San Diego Padres, with a tight hamstring attempting to make a diving catch. Soriano was said to still be limping after the game, not a very good sign at all for the Chicago Cubs. Soriano said “Yes, I don’t like to get hurt, I know that I’m not going to be able to play tomorrow, so it’s sad for me because ... I like to play every day. We’ll see how I look tomorrow.”

A healthy Sori is absolutely vital to the Cubs offense as he was the focus of upgrading their team during the Cubs offseason. Though there is good pop in the corner infield positions (Aramis Ramirez and Derrick Lee) much of the source of pop for the Cubs revolves around Soriano. Perhaps a temporary move back to second base would be wise for Soriano when he returns as it would give his hamstrings a rest, but it could be a while before he comes back. One definite is that there will be much less power in the Windy City until he returns.
