Apple Stores Now Fixing Cracked iPhone Screens
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Apple, Cell Phones, Corporate News, Handhelds

Clumsy iPhone owners rejoice, because Apple Stores across the country are now fixing cracked iPhone screens in-house. This is definitely a change from the past, as the Apple Store would just hand new iPhones to customers who were still under warranty if they had a cracked screen. Depending on which Apple Store locations you visited, you may have just been outright denied help with a cracked screen as well.
Apple stores now have a process by which they can repair cracked iPhone screen. They have a machine that separates broken glass from the rest of the phone, allowing the Apple store technician to install a new screen.
Of course, if you are out of warranty, the service won’t be free. However, for those of you under AppleCare, you can rest a bit easier knowing that Apple can now repair a cracked iPhone screen, so go ahead and throw away that ugly rubber case.

Apple Spill Detection Waterproofs Your MacBook Warranty
Posted by Patrick Phelps Categories: Apple, PC / Laptop

Spill your morning coffee on your MacBook and then take it in for covered warranty service? Those days are ending; water damage is obviously a violation of the AppleCare warranty, and the new MacBook and MacBook Pro computers, introduced last week, include what cellphones have had for years: Liquid Submersion Indicators, which alert technicians to water damage. Located under the keyboard and near the trackpad, the sensors change color when exposed to a liquid. Once these sensors are activated, there is no way to undo the process, so you’re just gonna have to fess up next time, so please - no more Shirley Temples near the hardware, okay?

Apple Acknowledges MacBook Random Shutdown Issue
Posted by Yuan Zhao Categories: Apple, PC / Laptop
Big companies do listen to complaints after all. Due to the comments of numerous MacBook users began suffering from sudden and inexplicable shutdowns, Apple has created a page to address the issue on the website. “If your MacBook is shutting down intermittently, please contact AppleCare for service.” While not particularly helpful, this means that Apple is addressing the issue and will hopefully have a solution (or at the least, an explanation) soon.
TUAW has been carefully documenting reports of this problem and has put together an explanation for the system crashes, linked below.
