New judges won’t be the only new things American Idol fans – and contestants – see in Season 10.
According to Nigel Lythgoe, the latest round of wannabes will be asked to do more than just sing their songs.
When the program returns in January, viewers will follow the Top 12 as they learn how to create music videos, work with dancers and even promote themselves.

American Idol 9: Top 12 Results
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Prime Time, Reality, FOX, American Idol, Features, Gossip, Video,
The Top 12 results show opened with a montage of the contestants’ journey on the show. The intro was very dramatic…would it lead up to a surprising elimination?
The theater went green in honor of St. Patrick’s Day, but only for a moment (and more’s the pity - it would be a blessed change on the same old, same old set). Right away, Simon Cowell confronted Ryan Seacrest for his “aggressive behavior” during the Tuesday performance round. The judge then went on to talk about the “judges’ save,” an element which was introduced only last year on the show.
David Cook started off the elimination round with “Jumpin’ Jack Flash.” It was rather odd that he chose not to do an original tune, but the performance was as solid as you’d expect from the Season 7 Idol champ. Cook is currently working on a new album, so be on the lookout for that one, AI fans. He will soon take a trip to Africa for the upcoming Idol Gives Back extravaganza.

American Idol 9: Top 12 Perform
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Prime Time, Reality, FOX, American Idol, Gossip, Video,

The Top 12 have the honor of performing on the big Idol stage, a privilege which can only be earned after three intense results rounds. Some always fail miserably the first night, while others shine like never before. Which of the contestants would tank terribly on Tuesday…and which would rock the stage?
The judges got a big intro for the episode, strolling out onto the stage shoulder-to-shoulder. Ryan Seacrest took the long walk down the stairs right after them, and suddenly the show was under way. The Top 12 had the honor of performing Rolling Stones songs for the night, truly a huge and varied catalog. First question: which one has the nerve to do “Paint It Black?” We shall see.

American Idol 9: Top 16 Results

American Idol’s Thursday elimination round opened with an expectant promise: by the end of the show, we would know which contestants will make up the Top 12. Heady stuff, and the show gave the moment the appropriate drama.
The Top 16 performed “Haven’t Met You Yet” to kick off the show. Alex Lambert and Casey James sounded terrible together, but the other pairs of males were pretty good. The women eventually joined in, but the easy-listening vibe really wasn’t so hot. The group performances this year have been absolutely horrible.

VIDEO: SYTYCD Rocks The White Stripes

In case you didn’t see last night’s So You Think You Can Dance results show, you missed what I thought was one of the best group numbers in quite some time.
Even after repeated viewings, this routine to The White Stripes’ “Seven Nation Army” (choreographed by Tabitha and Napoleon D’Umo) still has me pumped.
American Idol 8: Wild Card Round
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Prime Time, Reality, FOX, American Idol, Gossip,
The Wild Card round of American Idol opened with three stools and eight singers who all hoped to fill them. With eight singers, four judges and one host - not to mention a performance round and an elimination round in a single episode - Idol had to move things along pretty quickly. There was little time for recap or reintroduction. Each contestant had a sort of hurried interview that played for a few moments while they rushed to the stage. It was actually sort of poorly done, not to put too fine a point on it.
At any rate, Idol viewers were given a rare treat - instant gratification. Usually, results have to wait an entire day…but not on this Wild night.

American Idol 8: Third Group Results

The third group of Top 36 performers had to wait the longest to find out whether they would be moving on…or going home. At the top of the American Idol Wednesday hour, they all gathered to - finally - learn their fate.
“I think we have an amazing start of a Top 12 going on. I’m very proud of all of them,” Paula Abdul said of the contestants. Speaking of the Top 12, the first half (the six contenders who were voted in over the preceding two weeks) looked on from the sidelines as they, too, waited to hear who would join them in places of Idol honor.
The twelve performers of the week performed an upbeat version of “Hot and Cold,” yet another unrecognizable song performed by the Top 36 over the last three weeks. Despite somewhat lackluster choreography, they delivered what is arguably the best of the three group performances we’ve seen from the 36 semifinalists.

American Idol 8: Three Left Standing in Second Group
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Prime Time, Reality, FOX, American Idol, Gossip, Video,
Twenty-five million votes were tallied up to create Thursday’s live show, but did all the results go as expected? American Idol watchers were treated to montages, recaps and four performances - and at the end of the night, half of the Top 12 was firmly in place.
Alexis Grace, Danny Gokey and Michael Sarver waited through the group performance (it was a song I’ve never heard before and didn’t at all like…the best I can say is that it was better than last week’s group) and tons of other filler before real results were featured.
Ryan Seacrest spent a few moments chatting with the current crop of competitors before getting down to business. When asked about his future, Nick Mitchell said, “I’m looking for employment, always.” Jesse Langseth finds selecting songs “awful” and “very hard.” Jeanine Vailes admitted that “less could have been more” with her performance.
But eventually, even the time for chitchatting was over.

American Idol 8: First Winners Speak
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Prime Time, Reality, FOX, American Idol, Gossip,
American Idol 8 is underway, replete with live performances and suspenseful eliminations. But for the next two weeks, three contestants can breathe easy. Alexis Grace, Danny Gokey and Michael Sarver have made it all the way to the Top 12.
What do they think of that?
Alexis Grace recently spoke to reporters about her size (“I might weigh ninety-nine pounds. Maybe ninety-eight. And I would say I’m five feet tall”), her song choice (“I knew I could sing in that range, and I feel connected to her music, so I went with it!”) and being among the first to make it into the Idol dozen.

American Idol 8: First Results Show
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Prime Time, Reality, FOX, American Idol, Gossip, Video,
Twenty-four million votes were tabulated to bring us the first results show of American Idol 8, which aired live Wednesday night. Out of the twelve who came to sing, only three would definitely move forward into the Top 12.
And all of them wanted to be there.
The night started out slowly - it takes a lot of filler to say three names in sixty minutes - with judge reactions from last night’s singing. Of course, we all heard their reactions right after the singing, but let’s hear it again. New judge on the panel Kara DioGuardi “thought it was a good show” but found some performers (namely Casey Carlson, Stephen Fowler and Stevie Wright) “disappointing.”
The first group of twelve then performed “I’m Yours,” only passably well, which disappointed me. But soon enough, it was time to start weeding the Idol garden.
