UPDATE: No announcements are expected from FOX on Monday.
UPDATE: Jennifer Lopez has reportedly closed a deal to be one of the new judges.

Will it be Chris Isaak or Harry Connick Jr. on American Idol next season? Could it be Isaak and Connick? Or how about this: Isaak, Connick and Jessica Simpson?

These all could be very real scenarios as rumors about a total show makeover grow.

Prior to this week, Idol chatter had primarily been focused on Simon Cowell’s replacement. Then former executive producer Nigel Lythgoe came back into the picture. Then Ellen DeGeneres announced her departure.

Spinoff News: Gossip Girl, The L Word, NCIS

: Apparently when executive producer Josh Schwartz said back in June that there were “no plans for spinoff at this moment,” what he really meant was: “We aren’t planning anything for Jenny Humphrey.”

After months of speculation, CW finally announced that they will be creating a backdoor pilot for what could possibly be a Gossip Girl spinoff. (This would be similar to what Shonda Rhimes did with Private Practice.) If the test run is successful, the new series would not involve any actors from the sophomore show, nor would it even be located in New York.

Harold Perrineau Returns to Lost

Lost fans will be glad to hear that Harold Perrineau is returning to the series when it returns in January 2008. Strange, considering he spent the entire last season off of the show, leading many to believe that his ship may have just sailed off into who-knows-where. The news broke at the Television Critics Association, although it was supposed to be revealed at Comic-Con. If you recall from the end of season two, Michael Dawson (Perrineau) shot both Libby (Cynthia Watros) and Ana-Lucia (Michelle Rodriguez) and delivered Jack, Kate and Sawyer in exhange for The Others setting him and his son Walt free from the island. And off his boat sailed into the sunset, never to be seen again—at least not on the third season of the series. Of course, Lost fans will cling to this nugget of info and any others we can get during the long wait until January’s season four premiere. No details (of course) on where we’ll see Michael, meaning back on the island or in the future post-island world. More details about the upcoming season of Lost are expected at today’s Comic-Con convention.
