Thursday Ratings: CBS Reclaims the Evening

Thanks to original programming, CBS returned to familiar territory. The network was once again a force on Thursday nights.
8pm
- Survivor: Micronesia (3.9/11 in 18-49) returned to 12.8 million.
- The first episode of Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? (9.7 million, 2.8/8) had a nice 1.3 million bump.
- About 7.5 million saw Paris Hilton’s cameo on My Name is Earl (3.1/9).
- Miss Guided (4.6 million, 1.5/4) had 1.2 million absentees.
- Smallville* (2.4 million 0.9/3) settled for 1.4 million less than last week.

Survivor Micronesia: Lost Puppy Dog

When we last left Survivor: Micronesia, the Malakal tribe was having a hard time winning any of the Immunity Challenges, camp life at Airai was horrible, the Fans were getting picked off one-by-one and Ami kept confusing her fellow tribe mates (and the audience) with her constant waffling. Let me assure you, not much changed this week.
After knocking off Tracy at the last Tribal Council, Erik – and surprisingly, Ozzy – were both feeling a bit unsettled. Since he was the only Fan remaining at Malakal, the ice cream man figured he had a very short shelf life in the competition. Meanwhile, Ozzy was feeling incredibly frustrated by the recent turn of events. Since Tracy nastily called him the ‘leader’ of their group (a title he refused to accept), he knew that he might now have a large target on his back.

Wednesday Ratings: Survivor Faces Stiff Competition

A special Wednesday edition of Survivor was given a run for its money last night. The Moment of Truth held its own contributing to FOX’s overall success.
8pm
- Survivor: Micronesia (11.3 million, 3.7/10 in 18-49) was down about 2 million from last Thursday.
- The Moment of Truth (10.7 million, 4.1/12) actually saw a small increase.
- Wife Swap (5.7 million, 2.1/6) was off track by 600,000.
- Law & Order: Criminal Intent* (1.4/4) kicked off its block with 5.6 million.
- America’s Next Top Model (3.7 million, 1.8/5) was basically even with last week.

Survivor Micronesia: Like a Wide-Eyed Kid in the Candy Store!

On tonight’s episode of Survivor: Micronesia, the castaways were really starting to feel the effects of their long stay on the island. After over two weeks in the game, the survivors were starting to grate on each other’s nerves. The miserable weather was also taking a toll on their psyches. Who was able to power through – and who just had to throw up their arms and quit?
Frustrated by the lack of eggs they were receiving, a hungry Tracy suggested killing off one of Malakal’s three resident chickens. If they weren’t going to put out, she was going to cut them up. Ozzy, knowing that he could always fish for more food, thought that this was a ridiculous idea. The birds were still producing, just not as many as she would like. Why would she get rid of a renewable source? Ozzy’s bossiness, of course, frustrated underdog Tracy because he was acting like a “kingpin”. Not only was he the retriever of the food, he was also the decision-maker on when they would eat it as well.

MONDAY (3/17)
- Dancing with the Stars (ABC, 8pm): Tonight’s Season 6 premiere focuses only on the men. I think it’s safe to say Julianne Hough won’t be making it a three-peat with Adam Carolla.
- The Big Bang Theory (CBS, 8pm): New episode. “Sheldon and Leonard are asked to a physics conference to present their work together.” I’ve always wondered - if this show were to air on any other day, would it be half as successful?
- How I Met Your Mother (CBS, 8:30): New episode. “Ted decides to live life like Barney on St. Patrick’s Day.” You don’t want to know what they use as their lucky charms.
- Two and a Half Men (CBS, 9pm): New episode. “Charlie teaches Alan how to break up with a woman.” I hear hiring prostitutes can make a woman leave you.
- The Bachelor (ABC, 9:30): Season 12 premiere. “Bachelor Matt Grant, a 27-year-old British financier, meets his 25 would-be soul mates.” Apparently in America, you can finally afford to woo twice as many women as you can in the UK.

Thursday Ratings: CBS Wins the Idol-Free Night

Despite two hours of repeats, CBS was able to step up and take the night back from FOX.

- Survivor (13.1 million, 4.2/13 in 18-49) was the most watched show of the evening.
- Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? (9.3 million, 2.7/8) came nowhere close to Idol numbers.
- Lost* (1.8/5) kicked off its block with 5.3 million.
- My Name is Earl* (1.6/5) averaged 4.3 million in its hour.
- Smallville (3.8 million, 1.6/5) was up by 1.5 million.

Survivor Micronesia: It Hit Everyone Pretty Hard!

Tonight’s episode of Survivor: Micronesia really gave us an idea of how the game can take a toll on competitors physically. It also shone a light on the survivors’ true characters. How badly did they want to win the million dollars? What were their breaking points? How fairly did they like to see their fellow challengers treated?
Although most of the Malakal tribal members were happy with Joel’s elimination, Erik was left stunned by the events at Tribal Council. He finally realized that the Favorites were not ones to be trusted and knew that it was important to make a move soon. Even though she was integral in the firefighter’s dismissal, Tracy was still bothered by her status in the game. Keeping Chet around really didn’t help with the numbers; the Fans were still down 3 to 4.

MONDAY (3/10)
- The Bachelor: Where Are They Now? (ABC, 8pm): “Highlights from past seasons include segments catching up with past bachelors (Andrew Firestone and Aaron Buerge) and former contestants.” So the whole point of the show is to say there is no point to this show. Look at how successful it’s been!
- Canterbury’s Law (FOX, 8pm): Series premiere. “Julianna Margulies stars as a maverick defense lawyer who plays by her own rules to help the falsely accused.” I’m guessing ER will still be on long after this program goes off the air.
- New Amsterdam (FOX, 9pm): Regular day and time. If you didn’t watch last Tuesday or Thursday, I’m sure you won’t tonight either.
- October Road (ABC, 9pm): Special time. In the season (series?) finale, “Eddie’s ex-girlfriend shows up to reconnect with him, causing problems in his relationship with Janet.” Since we may never get a satisfactory resolution from this ratings-starved show, let’s just pretend Janet kicks her ass.

Thursday Ratings: New Amsterdam Already Takes a Fall

In only its second outing, New Amsterdam saw a 20% decline. Despite the great lead-in, the FOX series couldn’t compete against Lost.

- American Idol (9.3/24 in 18-49) topped the evening with 26.2 million.
- Survivor (12.6 million, 4.0/10) was on track with last Thursday.
- Lost* (5.5 million, 1.9/5) saw a 300,000 bump.
- The Office* (4.1 million, 1.8/5) was a carbon copy of last week.
- Smallville* (2.3 million, 0.9/2) had some decent growth.

Survivor Micronesia: He’s a Ball of Goo!

In the fifth week of Survivor: Micronesia, the hits just kept on coming. During last night’s episode we saw hits that affected alliances, strategies, bodies and overall team morale.
Not surprisingly, there was a wide mix of emotions at Airai’s camp after Mikey B’s surprise elimination last week. Chet – a bit cocky because he had somehow managed to live another day – was now setting his sights on Jason. Meanwhile, the gymnastics instructor was still reeling from his team’s idiotic decision. With the beefy writer now gone, Jason was in a tribe he no longer wanted to be a part of.
