Britney Spears is a ‘Fearless’ X Factor Judge

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Music, Prime Time, Reality, FOX, Gossip,

Britney Spears on 'The X Factor'Simon Cowell believes Britney Spears is a "fearless" X Factor judge.

The "Toxic" singer joined the judging panel of the show alongside Demi Lovato following Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger's exit after one series, and the music mogul claims Britney is excellent because she is not swayed by anyone else's opinion.

"Britney is fearless. She has no qualms about turning down a contestant. To get a, 'No' out of Paula, as you know, was like getting blood out of a stone because she didn't want to be unpopular. Britney will turn people down even if 4,000 people are going crazy about the contestant," he said.

Simon also praised Demi, who he finds often gangs up with Britney: "When the two of them get together and me and L.A. Reid want someone to go through, these two, they gang up. And that's what happens when you put two girls together!"

The second season of the The X Factor will premiere on September 12.

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Prime Time, Reality, FOX, Gossip, Rumors,

Jessica SimpsonWho’s going to join Simon Cowell on The X Factor’s juding panel? Speculation has been running rampant, but sources are currently citing Jessica Simpson as a front-runner. In the past, Cowell has worked well with somewhat ditzy chicks, so we think this could be seriously great.

Rumors have surrounded the show for months. Katy Perry, Mariah Carey and many other famous names have been tossed out there, and right now it’s anybody’s guess who Simon Cowell will pick.

The X Factor will appear on FOX in the fall, where it won’t interfere with the 100-pound reality gorilla American Idol.

American Idol 10 - Hollywood

All 61 remaining American Idol contestants were taken from Los Angeles to Las Vegas to sing a second round of group performances on Wednesday's episode. The show gave them 24 hours to learn how to perform Beatles songs... which, frankly, they ought to know how to do anyway on general principle.

More than half of them would be sent home with broken hearts before the epside was over. At last, some of the Top 24 list has been revealed -- but did the judges make all the right decisions?

Gossip: Steven Tyler Signed to American Idol Deal

Steven Tyler

FOX is still parroting the “no comment” line, but insiders say has already signed his name on the American Idol contract. According to one source, Tyler inked the deal last week. It’ll be fun to see whether he ties scarves around his desk mic, too. Now, the big question: who will join the Aerosmith front man at the judging table?

Rumor has it that Jennifer Lopez, who was named early as a possible new face on the panel, is asking for a $20 million salary on top of her own styling team and a large dressing room area (which is being referred to as a “compound”). Even despite all this, sources say that J-Lo still isn’t out of the running…though she’s not the only celeb FOX is currently speaking to about the American Idol gig.

Tom Cruise: A So You Think You Can Dance Judge?

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes

If you’re still questioning Katie Holmes’ performance on So You Think You Can Dance, this tidbit may keep that jaw dropped. During a recent interview with E!, the actress said she agreed with choreographer/judge Mary Murphy: Tom Cruise would make the perfect SYTYCD guest judge.

Murphy said back in October:  “I happen to love Tom, and Tom loves dancing, so it would be great.” (But does that exactly qualify him to be a judge?) Holmes then seconded that opinion this weekend at a Dizzy Feet Foundation event. “He would be great. He really would,” Holmes claimed. (See what you started, Ellen?)

So if Cruise were to someday visit the program, does that mean we would get another dance number from Katie as well? “I don’t know. I don’t know, but it was a great time,” Holmes stated.

Is Kara DioGuardi Fitting in on American Idol?

Description

Every season,   takes some lucky contestants - and puts them right in the middle of a media fishbowl where their every move, past and present, is dissected and printed…usually with corresponding pictures.

But it’s not just the contestants who are under the microscope. Every season, the judges are quoted and pictured and filmed at length. In fact, some of them seem to get more screen time than the singers. This year, American Idol has offered up a new personality for the media to devour.

Her name is , and she’s the fifth regular cast member to join the show. But let’s face facts: she’s still there, more or less, on trial. If DioGuardi doesn’t seem to work out pretty well this season, there’s no way of knowing if she’ll be back for the next.

Simon Cowell: American Idol’s Disrespectful Judge?

American Idol: Simon Cowell and Paula AbdulThere are very few viewers who feel ambivalent on the subject of Simon Cowell. The fans either absolutely love him and accept his word as gospel, or they utterly despise him and everything he says. It’s a love/hate thing, and some days Cowell makes us loathe him…other days, we just have to adore him. But there are some who think the famously plainspoken judge takes his penchant for criticism a bit too far, and in fact the acid-tongued critic has come under the gun with the press more than once.

Now, MSNBC is calling   out for his “disrespectful” behavior, saying the judge is “utterly indifferent and bored.” His behavior? It’s “increasingly appalling.”

Or, if you’re on the opposite side of the issue, one of the rare bright spots during performance and elimination nights.

Last week, as has happened on many such weeks, and Simon Cowell dissolved into a fit of squabbling at the judges’ table. Cowell has always delighted in discomfiting Ms. Abdul, who is obviously easily driven off-course. But after Scott MacIntyre’s performance, Paula was wide awake and for once quite ready for Cowell’s criticism. She whipped out props and delivered a funny line that even broke Simon up in hysterics.

How American Idol’s New Judging System Will Work

American Idol Season 8 Judges

While it’s still unclear how the audiences will react to American Idol‘s new casting addition, one important question was recently answered. Prior to this season, contestants hoping to move on through the audition phase simply needed to get two out of three votes. But now that we have four judges, what does this mean for Idol hopefuls?

Well, when Simon Cowell said he planned on having more input this year—he apparently wasn’t kidding. In the event of any future ties, Cowell will be the one granted the deciding vote.

How do you feel about this development? Will Simon’s opinions prevent possible winners from reaching the finals? Or are his assessments usually spot on anyway?

(You can find all the American Idol 8 posts here.)
