Kennedy Miniseries—Featuring Katie Holmes—Already Canceled

It appears the actual Kennedys are the ones to thank played a role in the cancellation of The Kennedys – a miniseries once destined for the History Channel.
The eight-hour event, featuring Greg Kinnear as President John F. Kennedy, was to have focused on focus on the personal relationships within the famous family. And though Katie Holmes “worked as hard” as she could to portray former First Lady Jackie Kennedy, the project was scrapped from the channel’s schedule.

Big Love Coming to a Big End
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Drama, Prime Time, Cable, HBO, Cancellations,

Let’s hope TLC brings back the Sister Wives action, because it’s soon going to end on HBO. It was just announced that Big Love's upcoming fifth season will also double as its last.
According to the show’s producers, the decision to end the program was simply storyline-dictated.
“When we created Big Love in 2002, we had a strong conception of the journey the Henrickson family would make over the course of the series, of the story we had to tell,” creators Mark V. Olsen and Will Scheffer said in a statement. “While we were in the writers’ room this year shaping our fifth season, we discovered that we were approaching the culmination of that story.”
Mark and Will did offer fans some good news to help offset the disappoinment. “This coming January, we look forward to presenting our audience with the most vibrant and satisfying final season of a television series that we can produce,” the duo promised.
Big Love will begin its farewell on January 16.

Lone Star: First Victim of New TV Season
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Drama, Prime Time, FOX, Cancellations,

After back-to-back weeks of dismal ratings, Lone Star has finally been put to rest by FOX.
The series—which was given a prime slot post-House on Mondays—opened last week to 4.1 million and a 1.3/3 in the 18-49 demo. A second outing this week dropped even further. The drama lost 900,000 viewers and fell to a 1.0/3.
Shortly after receiving the overnight numbers, FOX made the official decision to pull the plug. Lie to Me, originally slated to return on November 10, will now fill the Monday 9 PM position as of next week.

ABC Canceling Ugly Betty
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Prime Time, ABC, Cancellations,
Despite ABC’s attempt to find a good home for Ugly Betty, the network finally decided to give the time shifting a rest. The comedy will be canceled after its fourth season ends.
“We’ve mutually come to the difficult decision to make this Ugly Betty‘s final season, and are announcing now as we want to allow the show ample time to write a satisfying conclusion,” the producers and ABC said in a joint statement.
“We are extremely proud of this groundbreaking series, and felt it was important to give the fans a proper farewell,” they added.
The show’s finale is expected to air sometime in April.

Miley Cyrus Ditches Double: No More Hannah Montana
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Kids, Music, Prime Time, Cable, Cancellations,
The Disney Channel has confirmed that their banner series Hannah Montana will be ending after its fourth season, but that may not necessarily mean we’ve seen the last of Miley Cyrus on the network. She’s still bankable for Disney Corp, and I don’t think they’re ready to let her go it alone just yet.
According to one programming executive, “the episodes will continue to roll out at least over a full year.”
Shooting for the new season starts on January 18.

NBC Response to Jay Leno Cancellation Rumors
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Prime Time, Talk Shows, NBC, Cancellations, Gossip, Ratings,

UPDATE: The New York Times claims Leno will move to 11:35 PM with O’Brien starting at 12:05 AM.
Has NBC already given up on its primetime experiment? Although no one could blame the network for canceling The Jay Leno Show given its dismal numbers and valuable time slot, a report made today may have been a bit premature.
According to industry blog FTVLive.com, NBC had already decided to “pull the plug on Leno,” it just wasn’t known when the cut would be made. But a statement released by the network leads us to believe that execs are willing to hold out…at least, for a little while longer.
“Jay Leno is one of the most compelling entertainers in the world today. As we have said all along, Jay’s show has performed exactly as we anticipated on the network. It has, however, presented some issues for our affiliates. Both Jay and the show are committed to working closely with them to find ways to improve the performance.”
So what do you of think of the wording? Do you give Jay another few days, weeks or months?

Daytime Dish: As the World Turns Canceled by CBS
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Daytime, Drama, CBS, Cancellations,

Come next September, CBS will have a new hole to fill on its daytime calendar. That’s the month As the World Turns will come to its end.
Today’s cancellation announcement comes just three months after Guiding Light officially closed up shop. World, like Light, has been on the air for over 50 years.
“We are disappointed and saddened by the news that the show is not being renewed,” exec producer Chris Goutman said. “It will certainly be a loss for all of us, and for the show’s loyal audience.”

The Beautiful Life Canceled by CW
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Drama, Prime Time, The CW, Cancellations, Ratings,

There’s some good news and bad news for Mischa Barton.
The good news? She can now shelve that “My Wisdom Teeth Put Me in the Psych Ward” story. The bad news? She now has more free time on her hands.
Despite a recent debut on the runway, The Beautiful Life has officially become the first major cancellation of the fall fashion season. The CW dimmed the lights on the Ashton Kutcher-produced show after two weeks of dismal ratings.
