American Idol 9: The Finale
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Prime Time, Reality, FOX, American Idol, Features, Video,
Wednesday night was Simon Cowell’s last moment with American Idol, and the night belonged to him much more than the two contenders for the ninth Idol crown. Lee DeWyze and Crystal Bowersox performed ably on Tuesday night, but only the votes would determine which would walk away with the winning title. The show will undoubtedly crash and burn now that Cowell is walking away…but that is talk for another time.
The Top 12 Idols - including Crystal and Lee, of course - danced out on stage to deliver “School’s Out for Summer.” While Orianthi jammed out on the guitar, Casey James suddenly announced a surprise appearance - Alice Cooper. This was an exciting guest star, but honestly, he sounded quite bad. And I’m a fan.
The evening started out with a fairly lackluster vibe…but there was much, much more to come.

American Idol 9: Top 9 Results, the Sequel

It was the duty of American Idol‘s Wednesday’s results show to send two contestants away from the competition. The judges’ save is off the table (er, stage) and there are no do-overs. The epic Season 9 results show would put an end to all the Idol dreams for at least two contestants.
I know, pretty heady stuff. An appropriate lead-in opened the show, filled with dramatic music and bold graphics meant to drum up excitement. Since everyone knows that the final result won’t be read until we sit through a seemingly endless hour of banter and random live performances, it’s pretty hard to get excited at the top of the episode.
The Top 9 performed a medley of Elvis Presley songs to kick off the episode, beginning with “Burning Love” before moving into “Teddy Bear.” “Return to Sender” and “Viva Las Vegas” were also featured. The group number was actually rather horrible, which is surprising considering the artist the Idols were allowed to cover - but the songs selected for the medley really weren’t good ideas. I couldn’t wait for it to end.

The spotlight may be shining brightly on American Idol, still in the exciting throes of pre-season. But now that the stage is being set for a fresh crop of contestants, where do the former attention-getters end up?
“Standing alone on the curb at the Burbank airport,” was exactly where Carly Smithson found herself once the “Idols Live“ tour came to an end. The Irish-born diva raked in the press during her 13-week stint on Idol, often astounding the crowd and judges alike with her powerhouse vocals.
Every year, the Top 12 Idol contestants become the most important people on television. They live in special housing, they are talked about by everyone. They are the biggest stars out there. They go on tour, they sign autographs, they smile for cameras.
But at some point, the cycle starts over again. Tours end, glory fades, and brand-new contestants sweep in for their shot at fame.

Idol Divas Talk Tour

The five females who managed to snag coveted Top 10 spots on the seventh season of American Idol recently talked with reporters about the aftermath of the show and the beginning of the summer tour.
The tour kicked off in Arizona, the first of 49 cities which will soon welcome the group of crooners. Diminutive Ramiele Malubay feels positive about the tour, saying there will be “no one to say you sang horrible.”
“It’s not about what a judge is going to say. It’s about the music and the fans connecting and having a great time,” offered Brooke White.
Carly Smithson also felt cheerful, saying “it’s amazing. Nobody is going to judge us after we sing.” Third-place finalist Syesha Mercado likened the tour to “a mini-concert for each person.”
“We sing three songs each,” Brooke White said of herself and her fellow females, “David Cook five, Archuleta will sing four. I think a lot of people had the impression it was going to be a bunch of group numbers, but it’s not. We actually are going out as individual performers and do our own set, our own music.”

The seventh season of American Idol culminated last night in a spectacular, two-hour grand finale event. The fans, the fanfare, the Davids - it was a truly great show.
The men of the hours, Davids Archuleta and Cook, appeared in white for the opening sequence. Ryan Seacrest announced that the winner of the contest secured 56% of the vote. More than 96 million votes were logged, a record-breaking number, but of course voters had four hours after Tuesday’s performance (instead of the usual two) to make their wishes known.

Though most of the country is still reeling from Paula Abdul’s American Idol flub, the current limelight is supposed to belong to recently-ousted Brooke White. The songstress sat down with reporters to talk about her elimination, her future and of course the debacle that’s on everyone’s headlines: Paula Abdul’s Tuesday flub.
‘I kind of anticipated it, in a strange way,” Brooke White said of her Wednesday elimination. “It was in my gut.” White said she wanted to be stronger, but the emotion of it all just sort of overcame her, creating the tearful scene millions witnessed during her Wednesday good-bye.

American Idol: A Possible Paula Elmination?
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Prime Time, Reality, FOX, American Idol, Gossip,

Brooke White may have said her good-byes on Wednesday’s American Idol, but her elimination is still eclipsed by one that’s only been hinted at and suggested: the possible elimination of judge Paula Abdul.
Abdul’s Tuesday mix-up has already become the stuff of Idol legend (and a highly popular Internet video clip), the thing that will be talked about for many seasons to come. Many of the fans and public have been calling for Paula Abdul‘s head after she mistakenly critiqued Jason Castro’s second performance when he’d only sung a single song on the evening.

Only Four Left Standing on American Idol
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Prime Time, Reality, FOX, American Idol, Editorial,

As the number one show in the U.S., American Idol has had its share of mis-steps and bad press. The scandal, the controversy, the mistakes are all part of the Idol package. And let it be said that no PR force is more powerful or more graceful at covering - and apologizing for - flaws.
Host Ryan Seacrest made short work of addressing the latest issues on the show. After saying they were “still out of breath” from Tuesday, he announced that the performers collected 35 million votes. He talked about Neil Diamond, introduced the contestants and judges and then pointed to two Idol alum sitting in the crowd (Gina Glocksen and Constantine Maroulis). But before any talk of elimination could be presented, there was still a lingering issue to be faced: one judge’s live TV mistake.

American Idol: Top 5 Night
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Prime Time, Reality, FOX, American Idol, Editorial,

Neil Diamond week on American Idol kicked off with Ryan Seacrest announcing all were “still reeling after last week’s drama.” A quick flash of the judges showed Paula Abdul looking lovely, just before the Top 5 Idols were introduced.
Neil Diamond’s new album “Home Before Dark” will soon be released, hence his presence on the show. On the Top 5, Diamond said “They’re all good and they all bring something to music.” But what did they bring Tuesday night?

American Idol Superstar: Carly Smithson
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Music, Prime Time, Reality, FOX, American Idol, Gossip,

American Idol has whittled the competition down to only five, but sixth-place Carly Smithson isn’t at all bummed to have made it so far. The upbeat Irish lass had a positive outlook for all her interviewers, and no hard feelings toward anyone on the show.
“I don’t want to dwell on negative things. I’m looking forward to going out and making a record now. I’m just stoked,” Carly Smithson told reporters.
Today, the usual analytical minds are at work trying to make sense of this recent shocker. Some suggest it stems from song choice - eliminations often do - because the tune Smithson sang on Tuesday (“Jesus Christ Superstar”) is considered controversial among Christians.
