2010 Golden Globe Nominations (TV)
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Award Shows, Comedy, Drama, Music, Prime Time, Sci-Fi/Horror, ABC, Cable, CBS, FX, FOX, HBO, Showtime, 30 Rock, Entourage, House, Lost, The Office,

The 2009-10 awards season kicked into high gear this morning with the official announcement of the Golden Globe nominations.
Here are some of the noteworthy mentions from this year’s list of TV nominees:
- Freshman drama Glee leads all TV nominations with a total of four - including mentions for Lea Michele, Matthew Morrison and Jane Lynch. Damages, Dexter, 30 Rock and Big Love all got three noms.
- Although cable television dominated the Best Drama category, the major networks had a tight hold of the Best Comedy category.
- Newbies recognized this year include Courteney Cox (Cougar Town), Thomas Jane (Hung), Edie Falco (Nurse Jackie) and Modern Family.
- Despite big buzz around Emmy time, Big Bang Theory‘s Jim Parsons did not get any love this time around. Meanwhile, Emmy-winner Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad) was snubbed as well.
- HBO, once again, leads all channels with 17 nominations. FOX and Showtime both had six each.
The 67th Golden Globe Awards with host Ricky Gervais airs Jan. 17 on NBC.

VIDEO: Big Love’s Season 4 Teaser Trailer
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Drama, Prime Time, Cable, HBO, Video,
UPDATE: You can also see a new poster for the show after the jump.
A polygamist family that ice skates together is eventually bound to fall together…or just fall apart.
Although this early trailer for Big Love comes with no preview scenes, the expressions on all their faces are quite telling. Why does Barb look particularly concerned? Why does Nicki seem confused? Why can’t Bill hold on to his wives?
Find out when the Season 4 of the HBO drama begins on January 10.

So who cares if no one will be in attendance, the Golden Globe nominations must go on! (If the ceremony continues on as planned, it will air Sunday, January 13th on NBC.)
Here are the most notable omissions/additions in this year’s list of television honorees:
- Damages and Longford led the pack with 4 nominations each.
- James Gandolfini and The Sopranos were both left out of the races (though Edie Falco did get a nod).
- Three of the nominees for best TV Comedy (Entourage, Extras, Californation) came from pay-cable networks.
- Past faves (Desperates Housewives, Heroes, Ugly Betty) were nowhere to be found. (Though America Ferrera did earn a nod for her individual achievement.)
- HBO led the networks with 18 nominations; ABC was second with 11.

Big Love Needs Big Help
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Prime Time, HBO, Cable/Satellite,
HBO has just announced that their under-appreciated series, Big Love, has already been picked up for a third season. And while I dutifully watch this show and wish others would jump on board, I must admit—it really needs to improve by the time it comes up to bat again.
When I watch a show about polygamists, I want the show to focus on the polygamy angle. Unfortunately, I’m not entirely thrilled with the direction the show has taken this year. Way too much time has been spent on the compound, the family problems, the gambling venture and the annoying Rhonda. It’s time we back to the central storyline: the three wives and one husband. There is so much potential fodder there for a voyeur like me. Jealousy, time management, household duties….those subjects were only touched upon in the first season. Everytime ABC’s John Quinones does a 20/20 investigative piece on polygamists, I’m glued. I like to be a fly on the wall because I want to know if these wives truly get along with each other.
And what about the common denominator for all these women? Bill Paxton is extremely appealing as Bill Hendrickson, but his character is stretched a bit thin when he’s focused outside his immediate row of homes. Shouldn’t he be popping pills wondering how he’s going to take care of his ladies and his business? How exactly does he father all of his children equally?
Granted, storylines reminiscent of Desperate Housewives cannot be sustained over the lifetime of this series…but am I the only one who is bothered that the wives are TOO nice to each other? Yes, they argue—but where are the catfights? Big Love tries to demonstrate that polygamists are families too…but if they were just like the rest of us, would we have a reason to watch?
