Southland Moves to TNT

TNT isn’t only a place for countless Law & Order reruns. The cable channel is now home to another former NBC show.

Starting early next year, TNT will officially begin airing episodes of Southland, the John Wells-produced drama starring The O.C.‘s Benjamin McKenzie.

Despite critical acclaim and an October start date, the program was pulled from NBC just weeks before it was set to return. Now the entire series - including Season 1 and the unaired episodes from Season 2 - will have a new opportunity.

“This is a great win for fans of Southland and a perfect opportunity to introduce the series to new viewers,” said Steve Koonin, president of Turner Entertainment Networks, said in a statement. “It’s also another outstanding example of how TNT has established itself as the go-to place for the best dramas on television.”

Southland will debut on January 12.

Thursday Ratings: CBS and NBC Tie Post-Premieres

Depending on how you spin the numbers, the evening either belonged to NBC, CBS or both. The premiere of Southland won the 10:00 battle against Harper’s Island in the demos, but lost in the viewers. NBC tied CBS in the demos, but the Eye network won overall with the viewers. (Maybe we’ll just have to recalculate when ABC isn’t in repeats.)

• Survivor: Tocantins (11.3 million, 3.5/11 in 18-49) was up 100,000.
• Bones (8.9 million, 2.5/8) was down 100,000.
• A special episode of The Office (3.3/11) attracted 7.2 million; Parks and Recreation (3.0/9) debuted to 6.8 million.
• In the Motherhood (4.6 million, 1.3/4) lost 400,000; Samantha Who? (4.9 million, 1.4/4) did about the same.
• Smallville* (2 million, 0.7/2) fell by 1.8 million.
