MONDAY (3/10)
- The Bachelor: Where Are They Now? (ABC, 8pm): “Highlights from past seasons include segments catching up with past bachelors (Andrew Firestone and Aaron Buerge) and former contestants.” So the whole point of the show is to say there is no point to this show. Look at how successful it’s been!
- Canterbury’s Law (FOX, 8pm): Series premiere. “Julianna Margulies stars as a maverick defense lawyer who plays by her own rules to help the falsely accused.” I’m guessing ER will still be on long after this program goes off the air.
- New Amsterdam (FOX, 9pm): Regular day and time. If you didn’t watch last Tuesday or Thursday, I’m sure you won’t tonight either.
- October Road (ABC, 9pm): Special time. In the season (series?) finale, “Eddie’s ex-girlfriend shows up to reconnect with him, causing problems in his relationship with Janet.” Since we may never get a satisfactory resolution from this ratings-starved show, let’s just pretend Janet kicks her ass.

America’s Next Top Model Cycle 10: Top Model Makeover
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Prime Time, Reality, The CW, America’s Next Top Model, Editorial, Features,

Last night’s episode of America’s Next Top Model: Cycle 10 got to the root of why I can’t stop watching the series. Every season, there’s a girl (or two) who somehow manages to overestimate their talent. Then there is the person (often times the same one) who inevitably disagrees with what the professionals have to say. (Anyone else smelling American Idol right now?) Although the idiocy can sometimes be hard to watch, I usually end up relishing it. You know those moments are setting you up for an embarrassing fall from grace.

Tuesday Ratings: New Amsterdam Has Solid Debut
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Drama, Music, Prime Time, Reality, ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, The CW, America’s Next Top Model, American Idol, Ratings,
A post-Idol slot gave New Amsterdam the chance to draw a few first impressions. Question is: Will it be able to survive in its regular Monday time slot?
8pm
- American Idol (10.5/26 in 18-49) got the party started with 28.2 million.
- NCIS* (10.6 million, 2.1/5) slipped by 600,000; The Biggest Loser (8.7 million, 3.5/9) packed on the same amount.
- Just for Laughs (4.9 million, 1.4/3) was up a few ticks.
- America’s Next Top Model* (0.7/2) posed for 1.6 million.

MONDAY (3/3)
- The Royal Family (ABC, 8pm): Barbara Walters hosts a special that documents a year in the lives of the British royal family. Wow - they’re letting people get to know them better? That’s such a Diana move.
- Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles (FOX, 8pm): “In the two-hour finale, John and Derek are at odds over whether Cameron can be trusted.” Meanwhile, I’m still trying to figure out whether I’ll miss the show.
- Welcome to the Captain (CBS, 8:30): “Marty gets Josh an interview with the president of Paramount.” At least one of them will have a job when the show’s cancelled.
- The New Adventures of Old Christine (CBS, 9:30): “Matthew goes to therapy to discuss intimacy issues and learns he is too dependent on his sister.” Did anyone else shudder when they read that sentence?

FOX won what was generally an uneventful evening. The only item of note was the unimpressive return of Men in Trees.
8pm

- American Idol (10.4/26 in 18-49) sang to the tune of 27.4 million.
- Deal or No Deal (2.2/6) ramped up the tension with 9.4 million.
- Wife Swap (5.6 million, 2.1/5) and Big Brother (5.6 million, 2.1/5) turned in identical performances.
- America’s Next Top Model (3.9 million, 2.0/5) did slightly better than last week.

America’s Next Top Model Cycle 10: New York City, Here We Come
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Prime Time, Reality, The CW, America’s Next Top Model, Editorial,

Last week, I compared the premiere of America’s Next Top Model: Cycle 10 to both The Bad Girls Club and Charm School. This time around, I actually felt like I was watching an episode of Survivor. Wednesday’s surprise ending – like the recent Tribal Councils on the CBS program – just made my jaw drop.
Yesterday’s show kicked off with the fourteen aspiring models getting a load of their new NYC digs. While their pad was definitely impressive, it was not overly done up like the previous homes in LA. This one actually reminded me of The Real World’s inaugural season in New York. (Remember that one?) Thankfully, a room full of bunk beds prevented needless catfighting over space. There was also one large bed that looked like it had been ripped straight from Hugh Hefner’s grotto. (It was unclear who had opted to share that sleeping arrangement.)

MONDAY (2/25)
- A Raisin in the Sun (ABC, 8pm): Diddy and the rest of his Broadway cast bring the play to the small screen. I’m sorry - I believe his theater name is Sean Combs.
- The Moment of Truth (FOX, 8pm): Special night. Apparently this episode is so controversial, the producers debated airing it. Then they realized what network they were on and just went with it.
- Welcome to the Captain (CBS, 8:30): “Hope makes some new friends so she won’t be alone on Friday nights.” Their names? Jack and Daniels.
- Pussycat Dolls Present: Girlicious (CW, 9pm): “The women receive a surprise visit from JC Chasez.” They, too, are wondering why he doesn’t have anything better to do.

Last night, American Idol turned in its best Wednesday numbers since its debut back in January. The show did better than all the other network averages combined.

- Deal or No Deal (8.9 million, 2.1/5) added another 2 million to its total.
- Wife Swap (5.6 million, 2.1/5) did slightly better than a week ago.
- Big Brother (5.2 million, 1.9/5) was looking kind of small.

America’s Next Top Model Cycle 10: Welcome to Model Prep
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Prime Time, Reality, The CW, America’s Next Top Model, Editorial, Features,

Although last night’s debut of America’s Next Top Model Cycle 10 didn’t stray very far from its usual routine (if it ain’t broke after nine seasons, don’t fix it) – there were times when I was thrown for a loop. While I was certain my television was fixed on The CW, I could have sworn I saw occasional flashes of VH1’s Charm School and Oxygen’s The Bad Girls Club as well.
Wednesday’s premiere focused on the final selection process. Of the 35 girls that made it to the semis, only 13 girls would be moving on to the finals.
To kick things off, the model wannabes were herded onto a school bus and taken to a mansion-like building were Jay Manuel and Miss J were waiting for them. After the screams subsided, the girls were told they were being enrolled into “Top Model Prepatory”. (In other words – the gals were going to be dolled up in schoolgirl outfits much to the delight of any male who might be watching the show.)
