Reno 911Need a cure for the rerun blues? Forget about network and don’t worry about repeats - if you’ve never seen the show, it’s not a rerun to you. Get acquainted with some of the shows you may not even know about…and in some cases, you might wonder how you ever got along without them.

TV offers plenty of diversion, and sure a lot of shows get repeated. But in the middle of a while studios scramble to find anything to put on the tube, those obscure (and hilarious) cable shows may just become the saving grace of evening TV watching. Check out four relatively obscure, yet hysterical, cable shows and find out just how fun reruns can be.

This Week on TV (12/10-12/16)

The Hills

MONDAY (12/10)
  • (ABC, 8pm):  “Linus and Lucy’s little brother, Rerun, hangs with Snoopy and his own sibling, the desert-dwelling Spike.”  Was I the only one not aware of the What’s Happening!/Peanuts crossover episode?
  • (CBS, 8pm):  “Ted asks his doctor on a date and his friends try to discourage him from dating someone he sees regularly.”  Relationships clearly work best when you never see them at all.
  • (ABC, 9:30pm):  “Lauren tries to convince her sister to move to LA so she can be nearby when the baby is born.”  Lauren’s sister isn’t stupid.  She knows what ‘be nearby’ means.
  • (MTV, 10pm): Season finale.  “Lauren gets an offer to go to Paris.”  I really hope doesn’t take their version of quality programming overseas (again).  The French hate us already.

Alternatives For Late Night TV

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Late Night, Reality, Talk Shows, Cable, FX, MTV, Editorial,

Television RemoteIt’s only been a full work week since Hollywood’s writers went on strike, and already it seems the days of great late night talk programs are long gone. The last time the writer’s guild went on strike, it lasted an agonizingly long 22 weeks. Without Colbert, Stewart, Letterman and , how is American supposed to get its satirical, tongue-in-cheek twists on current events?

With a shortage of new scripts and a hiatus of many major shows, more Americans are now channel-surfing to find an entertainment fix. What they’ll find is a mishmash of reality TV - those wonderfully unscripted programs that are always there in the event of a script shortage. Channels like Travel, Discovery, Animal Planet and the Food Network are largely unaffected by the strike, though how MTV (and channels like it) will continue with their staged reality programs is anyone’s guess.

Instead of watching repeats on network TV, turn to these channels as the midnight hour approaches. , the , , , , and are among those still offering brand-new episodes. It’s better than re-runs.

Scrubs

MONDAY (10/22)

**No new episode of Ellen today.  She’s still recovering from all the doggy drama**

  • Live With Regis and Kelly (ABC, syndicated):  will be pulling double-duty this week as he fills in for Regis Philbin in NY and tapes his show in LA.  (I’m guessing we’ll still be seeing him on as well.)  If we’re lucky, Guillermo will fill in for Gelman too.
  • Prison Break (FOX, 8pm):  The show returns tonight after being preempted by baseball last week.  What?  You don’t care either?
  • Heroes (NBC, 9pm):  Many fans have been waiting for Kristen Bell’s debut tonight.  Unfortunately, she’s one more new character I’ll have to ignore.

MTV: Behind the Crown

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Reality, Cable, MTV, Gossip,

Tara ConnerWhen I hear about shows like this, I long for the days when MTV stuck to videos – not reality. But those days are over, and now Music Television is giving viewers something never-before-seen: Beauty Queens as TV stars. Gack. Led by former Miss USA Tara Conner (who was very nearly stripped of her crown for alcohol abuse), several pageant queens will crew up on the cable channel.

debuted this week, the first in an eight-part series, and follows the lives of Miss Universe, Miss USA and Miss Teen USA winners. They’ll be roommates…kinda like (which will continue into perpetuity…no matter how sick of it we get). The beautiful girls will live in New York City for one year, with Conner as an “unofficial peer advisor.” Just keep her away from the booze. , who publicly reprimanded Tara but allowed her to keep her crown, will be dropping by Pageant Place to check up on the girls.

Men in Trees

MONDAY (10/8)
  • The View (ABC, syndicated):  Meredith Viera returns to her old-stomping grounds as a guest.  I’m sure she prefers it that way.
  • Total Request Live (MTV, 3:30pm):  Watch the ‘official’ debut of Britney’s new video, or just watch it now.
  • Big Bang Theory (CBS, 8:30pm):  The reunion of Johnny Galecki and Sara Gilbert happens tonight.
  • I Love New York 2 (VH1, 9pm):  Season premiere.  I’m sorry—what exactly do the winners ‘win’ on this show again?

Watch Britney Spears’ New Video for ‘Gimme More’

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Music, MTV,

It for some reason you don’t see the YouTube video, you can find a very short preview of it here.

new video for ‘Gimme More’ is not officially scheduled to debut until Monday—but here’s your chance to get it out of the way now.

After you finish watching the clip, ask yourself these questions:

  • Was the sense of nausea you felt a result of the shaky editing or something else?
  • Did her hair remind you of Demi Moore, Cher or Morticia Addams?
  • Is it even possible to dance with shorts lodged so far up your rear?
  • Did you find yourself laughing more than voyeur Britney did in the video?
  • Was there even a point to the whole thing?

If you feel compelled to watch the video again on a much larger screen, set your Tivo to Monday’s on .
