24 Temporarily Halts Production

We should have known the show was troubled when they decided to bring Kim back
Even though the writers of 24 were given extra time to craft a new season, production on the show will be halted for nearly three weeks starting September 15. (Filming will resume October 9.) The program’s executive producer told Entertainment Weekly this creative pause was needed to perfect the ending.
“We had a couple of scripts that we weren’t happy with. We just couldn’t get this direction to work, and we found another one that we liked better, so we wound up retooling it,” Howard Gordon stated.
While this news may be upsetting to impatient 24 fans - the show was already pushed back a year thanks to the writers’ strike - the delay will supposedly not affect the drama’s start date. Since eight episodes were already in the can before the last work stoppage, production was already ahead of schedule.
Day 7 of 24 will premiere sometime in January. Until then, a two-hour prequel will air on November 23.

Fox Hypes Up Joss Whedon’s Dollhouse

Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Action, Drama, Prime Time, Sci-Fi/Horror, FOX, 24, Announcements, Internet, News, Video,

Feeling quite guilty that I haven’t come across the Dollhouse trailer until now, I felt like I should make up for it by doing Fox a favor and spreading the love!
The trailer for this fall’s sci-fi drama (which you can check out after the jump) has been out and about on YouTube and select TV spots, getting many pretty excited about its premiere. After all, it is Joss Whedon’s first series since Firefly, which went off the air back in 2003 (surprisingly with the same network his new show is on).
Dollhouse, starring former Buffy the Vampire Slayer (BTVS) favorite Eliza Dushku, focuses on a clandestine, illegal operation carried out by agents who have their memories and personalities completely erased after each mission. Dushku plays Echo, one operative who slowly starts to learn more and more about where she works over time—she becomes a known flaw in the system, if you will.
The series premieres in January on Fox, right before 24 in the Monday 8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT spot.

24 Movie in the Works

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Action, Drama, Prime Time, 24, Renewals,
The writers’ strike not only put the 2008 season of 24 on hold, it forced the creators to develop a whole new story.
Although Season 7 of the FOX staple is not scheduled to debut until January 2009, the producers are crafting a two-hour movie to help tide us over in the meantime. The special, slated to air this fall, will be a way of filling in the time gaps between the last season and the next.
Eight episodes were already in the can prior to the work stoppage; those hours will be part of the upcoming season. This means a whole new script will have to crafted for the prequel that will air prior to series’ premiere. Production on this inclusion will begin in April.
Be expecting to see a few changes when 24 finally marks its return. In addition to a location change (the show will move from CTU to Washington, D.C.), the show will have a new female president.

2008 Screen Actors Guild Awards

Thanks to the cancelation of the Golden Globes ceremony, the hottest ticket in town was tonight’s Screen Actors Guild Awards. Without a picket line to cross, celebrities from TV and Film were allowed to celebrate - and commiserate - together for the first time in a long while.
For star-deprived fans, the SAG red carpet was also a treat for sore eyes. What were our favorite actresses wearing? What were the latest trends? Which dresses were going to be copied by Allen Schwartz tomorrow?
Unfortunately, the evening was not all about partying. The recent deaths of Suzanne Pleshette and Heath Ledger cast a somber tone on what would normally be a festive occasion. Thankfully, tonight was not about dissecting their lives, but merely about honoring them.
Meanwhile, the neglected winners of this month’s Globes were also hoping to get a share of the honors. If they were able to pull off another victory tonight, maybe they would have a chance to give the speech they already had written.
Well, without further ado, here’s the play-by-play of tonight’s events coming to you from the fashionably late West Coast!

This may be last time you get to see a group of actors celebrating together for quite some time.

Party Politics and the Writer’s Strike

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Daytime, Prime Time, Specials, Talk Shows, ABC, CBS, 24, Desperate Housewives, House, News,
This is how it works. The Writer’s Guild of America has gone on strike. For most of us, this means that shows like House, 24, Desperate Housewives and a whole host of others won’t be on the air. But the writer’s strike has a bigger effect, and not just on our TV watching. Not only will this strike begin to effect the economy, but now it’s affecting the future of our nation. Because when party politics mixes with a writer’s strike, no one gets to benefit.
Let’s talk about Democrats. Support for unions is one of the bedrocks of the Democratic party – in fact, no self-respecting Democratic politician would ever be seen crossing a picket line. And right now, there are plenty of picket lines in front of TV studios. How does it affect you? If you’ve been looking forward to another Democratic primary Presidential debate (and there’s one scheduled December 10), you may wind up disappointed. Hosted by CBS News, this particular debate was scheduled many months in advance. But the Democratic contenders who will appear in the debate absolutely will not cross a picket line. That’s party politics.

‘Family Guy’ Continues Without Show’s Creator

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Animation, Comedy, FOX, 24, Family Guy, House, News,
FOX has been hit especially hard by the writers’ strike, and already some big ratings shows are off the schedule. There will be no 24, no more House, and all the network’s scripted shows are pretty much up in the air. So, FOX is going to go it alone.
Though Family Guy creator and voice talent Seth MacFarlane is on the picket line with the other writers, the network is producing new episodes of the hit animated comedy without his input. (Last Sunday’s episode was the last episode completed pre-strike.) Although MacFarlane told FOX they could continue the show without his him, he hoped they would not. Unfortunately, that’s just what they’re doing. Best of luck.
MacFarlane, by the way, voices main characters Peter Griffin, dog Brian and homicidal son Stewie.

‘Lost’ Returns to TV and Web

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Drama, Prime Time, Sci-Fi/Horror, ABC, Lost, Internet, News,
Fans stunned by last May’s Lost cliffhanger have been chompin’ at the bit waiting for a new season to begin. For their patience, they were promised an uninterrupted 16 weeks of episodes come 2008. Of course, the current writers strike had many wondering if their show’s status was in jeopardy.
Although some may fans may not like how ABC has decided to resolve this issue, others will probably be grateful they have something - anything - to look forward to at this point. The network could have opted to shelve their unfinished season (like FOX recently did with 24); they have instead chosen to air the finished eight episodes. In other words, viewers will get only half of what was originally promised. The good news? Co-creator and executive producer Damon Lindelof says the eighth episode does come with its own cliffhanger. The bad news? Lindelof admits the planned story arc may have to adjust accordingly.
So until Season Four kicks off sometime this February, fans will have mini-teasers to tide them over. ABC’s website will soon begin posting weekly vignettes featuring characters from the show. The episodes - each only a few minutes long - are separately shot videos that somehow belong into the much larger Lost puzzle. You can find the first ‘mobisode’ starting this Monday (November 12th).

FOX Suffering Symptoms of Strike

Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Comedy, Drama, Prime Time, Reality, FOX, 24, American Idol, House, News,
FOX is already making changes to their schedule, and we’re only three days into the writers strike. The intense drama 24 has been pulled from the schedule, as fewer than half the season’s 24 scripts have been written. But that’s not the only problem FOX is about to have with their programming. Big ratings-grabber House is about to run out of scripts, pushing the reality show Hell’s Kitchen into the cushy post-American Idol time slot in April. Two other FOX shows, the new Back to You and ‘Til Death, have also shut down for the season.
