David Hasselhoff

is leaving America’s Got Talent. The former Baywatch actor, who was hospitalized a number of times in 2009, claims to be working on an as-yet-unknown TV program.

“I am proud that I was part of making the number one rated show for the past four summers,” the 57-year-old actor said. “It’s been a rewarding experience and now I’m thrilled to be able to follow my dream to do my own TV show, which will be announced very shortly.”

Hasselhoff will be leaving a gap on Talent‘s judging panel. No names have yet been suggested to fill the seat next to Sharon Osbourne and Piers Morgan. “David’s been an integral part of America’s Got Talent and we are sad to see him go,” NBC said in a statement.

It’s believed Hasselhoff may be in participating in a new series for cable. Back in October, daughter Hayley tweeted: “The Hasselhoffs signed the deal with A + E… Get ready for it.”

UPDATE: TMZ claims O’Brien has a choice—take the later slot or leave the network.

“Hey, Kev—what does NBC stand for? Never Believe your Contract.”

Although he’s at the center of possible new shakeup at his network, Jay Leno used the opportunity to crack a few jokes about the awkward situation tonight.

Will the The Jay Leno Show be canceled as rumored? Possibly. But there’s an entirely different scenario that seems far more likely.

Jay Leno and Gordon Ramsay

UPDATE: The New York Times claims Leno will move to 11:35 PM with O’Brien starting at 12:05 AM.

Has NBC already given up on its primetime experiment? Although no one could blame the network for canceling given its dismal numbers and valuable time slot, a report made today may have been a bit premature.

According to industry blog FTVLive.com, NBC had already decided to “pull the plug on Leno,” it just wasn’t known when the cut would be made. But a statement released by the network leads us to believe that execs are willing to hold out…at least, for a little while longer.

is one of the most compelling entertainers in the world today. As we have said all along, Jay’s show has performed exactly as we anticipated on the network. It has, however, presented some issues for our affiliates. Both Jay and the show are committed to working closely with them to find ways to improve the performance.”

So what do you of think of the wording? Do you give Jay another few days, weeks or months?
