VIDEO: David Letterman Fixes (Most) of NBC’s Problems

If the Peacock execs had listened to David Letterman, maybe they could have kept Conan O’Brien from walking way from The Tonight Show. After all, who knows more about late-night drama than the man once screwed over by NBC?
Last night, the Late Show host came up with an idea that could have made Jay Leno, Conan O’Brien and Jimmy Fallon happy. (Unfortunately, Dave had “no solutions” as to how to help Carson Daly, the man who’s like “the Pluto of talk shows.”)

Although it came narrowly close to meeting NBC’s chopping block, Chuck lived to tell another day. Was the publicity responsible for the show’s ratings boost last night? Or will the show fall back into old habits once it settles in on Mondays?

Howie Mandel Joins America’s Got Talent
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Prime Time, Reality, NBC, News,
NBC, already facing a programming hole at 10:00, has managed to fill one of its vacancies.
Over the weekend, NBC Universal Television Entertainment Chairman Jeff Gaspin revealed that Howie Mandel will become the newest judge on America’s Got Talent. This news comes just days after David Hasselhoff announced his departure from the summer reality program.
Mandel, who previously hosted Deal or No Deal for the network, was deemed the perfect fit for Talent.
“If you think about an expertise, Howie has had a Las Vegas show for years and he constantly performs in Las Vegas,” Gaspin said at the Television Critics Association press tour. “So we actually thought — not only is he a great communicator, but he’s actually an expert.”
No start date has yet been announced for the show’s fifth season.

TV Talk: Jason Alexander Joins Jenny Craig, Law & Order Eyes Los Angeles
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Drama, Prime Time, Sci-Fi/Horror, ABC, Cable, FOX, NBC, Showtime, Commercials, Heroes, Lost, Prison Break, Gossip, News, Rumors,
-Seinfeld‘s Jason Alexander has signed up to be the new face of Jenny Craig. I’m not sure I want to see a bathing suit commercial in his future.
-Oscar nominee Laura Linney will star in The Big C, a new series for Showtime. In case your mind went elsewhere, that “C” stands for “cancer.”
-Former Nightline anchor Ted Koppel could be returning to his old network. ABC is reportedly hoping he’ll replace GMA‘s George Stephanopoulos on This Week.
-Is there another Law & Order franchise on the horizon? NBC is currently entertaining a Los Angeles-based version of the show.
-The numbers may be lousy, but someone’s still watching Heroes. The NBC series was the most-pirated program last year. Lost was second while Prison Break came in third.

The Jay Leno Show Leaving Primetime on February 12
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Late Night, Prime Time, Talk Shows, NBC, News, Rumors,

Although the drama surrounding NBC’s late-night schedule is still ongoing, two things were finally made clear by NBC Universal TV chairman Jeff Gaspin today:
- The Jay Leno Show will air its final 10:00 broadcast on February 12.
- The network has asked Conan O’Brien and Jimmy Fallon to adjust their start times by 30 minutes.
The decision, which was revealed at the Television Critics Assn. Press Tour, was reportedly a result of increased pressure by the local affiliates. It wasn’t a reaction to Jay Leno’s actual work.

(Make sure to check out TV Envy’s Midseason Programming Schedule.)
MONDAY (1/11)
- Little People, Big World (TLC, 8pm): “Matt and Amy’s families gather to celebrate the twins upcoming graduation. But when Zach has a failing grade on his report card, no one is sure whether he’ll receive a diploma after all.” Fortunately, education is not a prerequisite for reality TV stardom.
- Bank of Hollywood (E!, 9pm): “Contestants include two men who want to open a mullet hair salon.” Heck - I would fork over my own money just to see that.
- Two and a Half Men (CBS, 9pm): “Jake tries to win back his ex-girlfriend by writing her love songs.” Charlie (Sheen) will be taking detailed notes.

VIDEO: Conan O’Brien Jokes About Jay Leno Drama
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Late Night, Talk Shows, NBC, Gossip, Video,
It may have taken over 24 hours, but Conan O’Brien has finally had his say.
Although Jay Leno managed to turn around jokes yesterday about NBC’s late-night drama, the Tonight Show host remained mum on the subject…that is until now.
How will the 11:30 PM time issue finally be resolved? My favorite rumor: Jay and Conan will be joining the cast of Jersey Shore as a new character called “The Awkward Situation.”
