On Gear Live: Apple’s M5 Chip Made the MacBook Pro Unstoppable!

Sarah SilvermanFemale-led shows on haven’t done so well in the past, but all that might be changing thanks to loud-mouthed, obstinate . The comedienne’s show was renewed by the cable channel, solidifying her as a comedy success. Silverman co-writes and co-produces , in addition to carrying the lead role for the series.  Last week’s season premiere found the show in a cushy spot on Comedy Central, appearing right after the channel’s most popular program: South Park. The debut showed Sarah yelling at the clergy, arguing about abortion, and in general making audiences laugh.

Lifetime One of the fun things about writing this blog is the opportunity to report on all of the crazy new reality shows. Just when I think the well’s run dry on ideas, along comes another bizarre one. Case in point, Lifetime has announced America’s Psychic Challenge, brought to you by The Real World producer Bunim-Murray Productions. It’s a challenge to see who is the best psychic among a group of contestants. No, really. With events that test their psychic abilities. Each week, psychics are eliminated until the best of the bunch is left standing (and do you think that person could have predicted their win at the onset of the competition?). The winner takes home $100,000 and a contract with the Psychic Friends Hotline. Naw, I just made that last part up (the $100 grand is right though!). E! News Daily reporter John Burke is set to host. Do we have a ratings winner here? Hang on, let me look into my crystal ball… my magic 8 ball, that is. “Outlook not so good.”

David SpadeFor those of you who thought David Spade was as twerpy as some of the characters he plays… think again. The acerbic funnyman felt a twinge on his sensitivity meter when he heard about a fallen police officer in Phoenix. As a result, Spade donated $25,000 to the family of Officer Nick Erfle. Erfle had returned to the force after overcoming cancer, only to be shot in the line of fire. Spade is from Arizona and felt a hometown connection, saying, “It just struck me as such a rough situation just because cops in general get kind of a bad rap lately and people forget it is the scariest job out there.” Who knew David Spade had such a big heart? I’ve been a fan of Spade since SNL and his films with the late Chris Farley (c’mon, have some love for Tommy Boy!)… and while I’m not so excited about Rules of Engagement, I do love The Showbiz Show.

RAW Shawn Michaels Returns

After a five month absence from the ring, “The Heartbreak Kid” made his triumphant return to Monday Night RAW. On a night meant to celebrate the WWE Championship reign of the newly-crowned champion, Randy Orton, Michaels would finally get his revenge on Orton, who side-lined the “Grand Slam Champion” with a concussion at May’s Judgement Day pay-per-view.

WWE Chairman Vince McMahon ordered that all WWE superstars congratulate Orton on his tainted WWE Title win the previous night by entering the ring on RAW, one-by-one, and shaking Orton’s hand. First in line, demanded McMahon, would be Triple H, whom Orton defeated for the title in the last of three matches “The Game” was forced to endure the night before.

More on the RAW shocker and match results after the break.

Hannah MontanaIt’s not uncommon for a movie to outperform its competition—so should we be surprised that the hottest concert tour this year is being headlined by a Disney Channel star?

The (a.k.a. ) tour is so successful, scalpers are already selling her concert tickets at five times the face value.  Seats for all 54 stops have already sold out—and in several cases, in near record fashion.  (It took only four minutes in the Atlanta-area and eight minutes in Memphis.)  According the Associated Press, her tour is outselling The Police, Bruce Springsteen and Justin Timberlake.

Okay, the Spice Girls did just sell out their London concert in only 38 seconds—but let’s remember:  Hannah/Miley’s only 14.

Nickelodeon SplatBefore I get into this post, let me first say that I’m absolutely giddy (yes, I said giddy) because I just finished watching My Name is Earl and The Office. How great is it that the fall season has started? Pretty darn fantastic… and I also can’t wait to watch the Ugly Betty premiere that I recorded on the DVR. Of course, it’s late and I won’t be able to get to that until tomorrow. But anyway… kids’ network Nickelodeon is doing their annual bit to get kids away from the TV by offering three hours of dead air on the channel this Saturday. From noon to three, kids are supposed to use the time to get out and play, rather than watching the tube. I think this is an admirable effort, but really… if there’s nothing on Nick, don’t they have a sea of other channels to choose from? Just being a naysayer, I suppose. Then again, I limit the amount of television my kids watch and they’d much rather play outside than watch the TV. Video games, however, that’s another story. I’ve had to literally implement a timer system or else they never want to stop playing!  So, folks, take Nickelodeon’s lead and get your kids off the couch and active!
