The Food Network was hardly more than a blip on cable when it began in 1993, with chefs like Bobby Flay, Mario Batali and Emeril Lagasse rounding out the programming. Batali and the network have since parted ways, and now Emeril Live is coming to the end of its reign.
Live, which began 10 years ago, quickly brought attention to the little-known network and turned the host into a household name. Although the show stops production on December 11, 2007, Lagasse will still be part of the Food Network family. The Essence of Emeril will continue to air and while the chef himself - who’s still working on new ideas - will remain on hand to take part in food-related specials and shows.

Fans Must Pay to See ‘High School Musical 3’
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Kids, Music, Cable, News,
As I previously mentioned, the bigwigs at Disney opted to boost Vanessa Hudgens’ salary for High School Musical 3. Now we know where that extra money will be coming from: your pocketbooks.
Fans looking forward to the latest musical installment will now have to pay for the experience. That’s right - the movie will be moving from The Disney Channel to the big screen. The entire cast, including a heavily-rewarded Zac Efron, will begin filming the sequel this March.
Although many will be bothered by Disney’s decision to financially exploit HSM-addicted families, here are a few good things parents can take away from this:
- No more parties at your home for another HSM premiere*.
- No more endless viewings of the show thanks to the miracles of Tivo*.
- No more lip-gloss kisses on the plasma TV screen*.
- You can dump the kids off at the theater and not be within earshot of the catchy tunes*.
- You can now force your children to earn the price of a ticket.
- You can know say you were forced to watch the movie with your kids; you could have left the living room before*.
(*This all, of course, only applies until the DVD is released.)

Reality Show Predictions Revisited
Posted by David L. Williams Categories: Music, Prime Time, Reality, ABC, Bravo, Cable, CBS, FOX, The CW, Amazing Race, The, America’s Next Top Model, Dancing With The Stars, Survivor, Editorial,
So evidently I’m really bad at predicting the outcomes of reality shows (which, I know, already happened). I mean, really exceptionally bad. Now, I could have just buried my predictions from two weeks ago, but a man has to face his failures, so here we go. (Oh, and blahblahblahSPOILERALERTblahblahblah.)
THE AMAZING RACE:
Just a few weeks in, and one of my finalists is already gone. Not only was I wrong about Lorena & Jason being one of the three final teams, I was also wrong about them not annoying me yet. Lorena’s camel-milking meltdown (and how often did you read that phrase?) was incredibly entertaining and also horribly, cripplingly annoying. Still, Azaria & Hendekea are running strong and maybe I’ll be right about who ultimately gets to hang out with Phil at the finish line. But most likely not.
AMERICA’S NEXT TOP MODEL:
My pick, Heather, was in the Bottom Two last week. She’s still in it, but her not-great public speaking skills mean she may not be long for this competition.

‘Tin Man’: SciFi Channel Meets ‘Wizard of Oz’
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Mini Series, Sci-Fi/Horror, Cable,
I was probably five years old the first time I watched The Wizard of Oz, under the assurances from my grandmother that I was sure to love the movie. Unfortunately, I was so completely terrified by the Wicked Witch of the West that I didn’t make it to the end of the yellow brick road until I was closer to the age of ten. But in the end, she was right. Besides achieving acclaim and immortality as one of the greatest American film classics of all time, The Wizard of Oz has also been heralded as the only true fairy tale to come from the U.S. From the moment Judy Garland-as-Dorothy Gale opens that black-and-white door to reveal a world filled with color, there is no question that viewers are about to be treated to a fantastical delight. That element of fantasy is exactly what the SciFi Channel hopes to capture with Tin Man.
Zooey Deschanel (whose little sister is the star of FOX’s Bones) will play a more rebellious, modern-day Dorothy, this time with a motorcycle and a new moniker (DG). Like the famed movie itself, the mini-series is based on the L. Frank Baum novel. Basically, it’s a tale about growing up…and staying young at heart. The SciFi version, in keeping with the network, will be darker, more intense, and contain an element of the extraordinary.

Mary-Kate Olsen, one of the most famous twins in the world, is currently in a New York hospital. Don’t get your gossip into gear yet – this time, the 21-year-old actress isn’t suffering from an eating disorder, say her reps. According to reports, Olsen has a kidney infection which put her into the ER. She is now resting and will reportedly be released in one or two days.
Despite the problems that plagued her in the past, Mary-Kate recently told reporters she has been in good health. Olsen has been working on several projects lately, including a stint on Showtime’s Weeds.

Thanksgiving Day TV
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Daytime, Reality, Sci-Fi/Horror, ABC, Bravo, Cable, CBS, FOX, MTV, NBC, Top Chef,
Thanksgiving Day is all about eating, and what goes perfectly with any meal? Plenty of TV – and all the major networks and cable channels will provide you with a feast this year, even despite the writer’s strike that has changed Primetime TV.
NBC promises traditional holiday fare with the annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade (a long-standing Turkey Day event). This will be later followed by Miracle on 34th Street - the Natalie Wood version - which is a movie always worth watching. (I make it a point to watch this flick at least once every holiday season – it’s one of those must-holiday-haves, like It’s a Wonderful Life.)
Or, you can take a small deviation from long-standing tradition with CBS, which will be showing an alternate Thanksgiving Day parade. A handful of Price is Right episodes follow, but don’t worry – football starts at 2:00 pm. Meanwhile, FOX starts broadcasting their own NFL action at noon with Green Bay and Detroit.

BREAK_DOWN_THE_WALLS … OF JERICHO! The wait came to an end tonight and the questions (or lack thereof) behind the SAVE_US.222 videos have been revealed. Chris Jericho has returned to the WWE. Was it worth the wait? You may be surprised …
Monday Night RAW kicked off like every RAW should - with “The Heartbreak Kid” Shawn Michaels. Michaels lost a fantastic match last night at Survivor Series against WWE Champion Randy Orton. I knew he’d lose considering that he has such a limited schedule and doesn’t wrestle house shows - it’s highly unlikely that they’ll put the title on a guy who can’t won’t wrestle a full schedule. Shawn invited Orton to the ring and Orton answered by appearing on the Titon-tron and turning him down. According to Orton, HBK will also not get a re-match because Orton will apparently receive a figurative and literal torch-passing from some sort of marathon runner.

CNN Hosts Democratic Debate Tonight
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Prime Time, Reality, Specials, Cable, Editorial, News,
The Democratic contenders in the Presidential race will take the stage tonight in another primary debate. The University of Nevada will host the event, which will be captured for posterity (and our criticism) by CNN TV cameras. All the action begins at 8pm.
I’ve had the pleasure of watching the primary debates (for both opposing camps) from the beginning, and I must say there’s simply no better TV on at all. Each new debate sees more pointed comments, more heated arguments and more political “outing” from the competitors. Everyone’s policy is on the table for review, everyone’s actions will be called forward and everyone is sure to be at each other’s throats before it’s all said and done. Now, that’s entertainment.
CNN polls for the state of Nevada find Hillary Clinton in the lead by a huge margin (51%), proving to me that I am one of the few actually watching the debates. Barack Obama is in second place with 23% of the popular vote while John Edwards still in the running at 11%. Bill Richardson, surprisingly, has surged ahead of other competitors with 5% of the vote, followed closely by Joe Biden who has 4%. Both Mike Gravel and Dennis Kucinich have 1% of the popular vote, with 4% of those polled remaining undecided.
We all have to vote for one of these contenders, or one of the Republican debaters, fairly soon. Watch the debates.
Watch the debates.

Miley Cyrus, 14-year-old daughter to Achy Breaky Billy Ray Cyrus, is being sued by her fans. Yes, even the Disney Channel’s darling isn’t immune to outrage.
According to the lawsuit, fan club membership was supposed to guarantee concert tickets to the Hannah Montana tour. It didn’t, so now they’re suing. The action was started by a woman in New Jersey who has invited other jilted fans to join the cause. The suit claims fans were deceived and “lured” into buying memberships to the Miley Cyrus Fan Club, which costs $29.95 annually.
The Hannah Montana star has been selling tickets like hotcakes; many of her engagements have sold out within minutes.
