All those moms out there just hoping to get advice from famous mom Lynne Spears will just have to talk to her one-on-one – her parenting book has been canceled. (The publishers say they have “postponed the book indefinitely.”) Why anyone thought Lynne Spears would be a good role model for a parenting book is beyond me anyway, but with the news that Britney’s sister Jamie Lynn is expecting (at the age of 16), Lynne’s parenting skills are no longer marketable.
Jamie Lynn, star of Zoey 101, plans to keep her child though she is “shocked and scared.” The book, which was to be titled Pop Culture Mom: A Real Story of Fame and Family in a Tabloid World, was set to hit the shelves on Mother’s Day 2008.

Don’t Put Yourself in a ‘Paranormal State’
Posted by K.C. Morgan Categories: Reality, Sci-Fi/Horror, Cable, Editorial,
Turn to the SciFi network, even the Travel Channel, and you’ll find shows that take you behind the world of plain reality TV and into the unknown. Sure, it’s easy to be skeptical. It’s easy to be a cynic. What’s it not easy to do is believe – not when you’re dealing with television, a vehicle concerned with big ratings and special effects. But A&E’s Paranormal State has already turned some non-believers into paranormal investigators…whether they wanted it that way or not.
Executives and show producers involved with the documentary series have said they’ve witnessed paranormal activity for themselves by virtue of their involvement with the show. Reports include EVP (electronic voice phenomenon), otherworldly mists, and cold chills. The series debuted last week, becoming the most-watched premiere for the cable channel in the last 3 years. Undoubtedly some of those numbers arrive from an overall lack of television choices, the result of the ongoing writers’ strike.
The entire crew wore St. Benedict medals (which were dipped in “holy water”) while shooting. Good thinking. If a ghost comes after me with a glint in its eye, I’m going to reach right for the nearest talisman. That oughtta help. One person tied to the series calls it “emotional and compelling and real.” Pardon my cynicism, but we are still talking about a TV show here. Like the news, reality TV has to worry about ratings, too.

USA Network Cancels ‘The Dead Zone’, ‘4400’
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Drama, Sci-Fi/Horror, Cable, Cancellations,
TV Guide is exclusive reporting today that the plugs have been pulled on both The Dead Zone and The 4400. Dead, which had been on the the USA Network for six seasons, had its last airing on September 16. This was also the same date of 4400’s Season Four finale.
Although a reason was not stated, creator Scott Peters acknowledged the cancellation of The 4400 on the show’s message board. Meanwhile, fans of The Dead Zone have been working on their own online petition.
While I admittedly had not watched either series, I was actually bummed to hear the news. How could I not support any program that had Farmer Ted (a.k.a. Anthony Michael Hall) as its lead? And I only just learned today that The 4400 was (supposedly) set in Seattle. Just that fact alone should give the program a permanent time slot on USA’s schedule.
Keep Farmer Ted! Keep 4400! Go Seahawks!

Wow. Wow. Somewhere Dina Lohan is breathing a sigh of relief right now…
If Britney Spears’ tumultuous year wasn’t quite enough for her mother, her younger sister has now officially put the icing on the cake. Jamie Lynn Spears, the 16-year-old star of Nickelodeon’s Zoey 101, is pregnant.
The network confirmed the news in a statement issued today:
“We respect Jamie Lynn’s decision to take responsibility in this sensitive and personal situation. We know this is a very difficult time for her and her family, and our primary concern right now is for Jamie Lynn’s well being.”
Well, at least Preston and Jayden will now have another kid to hang out with when their mommy goes shopping.

WWE RAW Reflections (12/17)
Posted by David Onda Categories: Action, Prime Time, Sports, Cable, Cable/Satellite, Editorial, Features, News, Spoilers,
Fresh off of last night’s Armageddon pay-per-view, it’s time for Monday Night RAW! Last night, Edge became the World Heavyweight Champion by defeating Batista and The Undertaker, WWE Champion Randy Orton retained the title over Chris Jericho when JBL interfered and Shawn Michaels beat Mr. Kennedy. Tonight, we’ve got a big divas match, Ric Flair vs. Umaga, a tag title match and a big return to RAW.
The show kicks off with a delicious “Santa’s Little Helper” match featuring Victoria, Layla, Jillian Hall and Melina taking on Kelly Kelly, Mickie James, Michelle McCool and Maria. Jillian opened with her usual entertaining destruction of a Christmas classic. All the girls look absolutely amazing. Kelly Kelly has really gangly looking legs. Lillian Garcia accidentally announced Kelly with the heel team - awkward. Maria wrestled the least, while Kelly botched a move at some point. McCool is starting to get some respect and seems to be getting to work a good portion of women’s matches. Once again, Mickie seems to be the sexiest of all the divas. I don’t know what it is, man. She is just on fire. Mickie scores the pin on Victoria for the win. Couple of nice impact moves and sells from Melina in this one.
Join me after the jump to find out which retired WWE Champion is joining the RAW roster.

Plans for an E! reality series featuring newlyweds Pamela Anderson and Rick Salomon have been canceled. Pamela wrote on her Web site that she did consider doing the show - which wasn’t going to feature any of her children or her family life - but has since had second thoughts.
The couple, newly married in October, “fell in love” as a result of a game of strip poker. Sexual favors were called for, Pam performed them, and evidently affection followed. Anderson called the experience “romantic,” which is actually a little tragic.
There is still a chance the E! show could still go forward, as Anderson has been known to change her mind several times on the same topic in the past.

2008 Golden Globe Nominations (TV)
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Drama, Prime Time, ABC, BBC, Cable, CBS, FX, HBO, NBC, PBS, Showtime, TNT-HD, Entourage, Extras, Grey’s Anatomy, House, Medium, My Name Is Earl, The Office, The Sopranos,
So who cares if no one will be in attendance, the Golden Globe nominations must go on! (If the ceremony continues on as planned, it will air Sunday, January 13th on NBC.)
Here are the most notable omissions/additions in this year’s list of television honorees:
- Damages and Longford led the pack with 4 nominations each.
- James Gandolfini and The Sopranos were both left out of the races (though Edie Falco did get a nod).
- Three of the nominees for best TV Comedy (Entourage, Extras, Californation) came from pay-cable networks.
- Past faves (Desperates Housewives, Heroes, Ugly Betty) were nowhere to be found. (Though America Ferrera did earn a nod for her individual achievement.)
- HBO led the networks with 18 nominations; ABC was second with 11.
