For the first time in over 15 years, a female will get the chance to host the MTV Video Music Awards. In 1994, Roseanne Barr from the VMAs from Radio City Music Hall. In 2010, it’ll be Chelsea Handler’s turn.

“Everyone knows that when you think of rap music and hip-hop, you think of Chelsea Lately. And that’s why I will be hosting [the show],” Handler explained tonight about her selection.

Performers joining Chelsea for this year’s event include Justin Bieber, Kanye West, B.o.B, Florence + the Machine. The ceremony will air live September 12 from Los Angeles.
