Dancing with the Stars 7: Week 7

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Prime Time, Reality, ABC, Dancing With The Stars,

On this week’s episode of Dancing with the Stars, the producers had one more surprise in store for both the competitors and the audience.
In addition to their solo numbers, the six pairs had to perform in the first team dance. After being split into two groups of three (captains Warren Sapp and Susan Lucci were responsible for the assignments), the teams were then charged with working together on an ensemble performance. Unlike last Monday’s previous group hip hop number, these two performances - a Cha Cha Cha and a Paso Doble - were actually being scored. (Those scores would then be added to the individual totals.)
Who showed us they could work in unison…and who still needed work on their solos? Read on!

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Animation, Comedy, Drama, Prime Time, Reality, Sports, ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, The CW, Amazing Race, The, Desperate Housewives, Family Guy, Ratings,
Even though the show celebrated Halloween two days late, The Simpsons’ annual “Treehouse of Horror” special was still timely with the viewers. Last night’s animated event gave the series its best performance in the demos in nearly five years. That result, in turn, gave the network a Sunday win in the demos. Meanwhile, the Patriots/Colts football game put NBC on top with the viewers.
8pm
- Approximately 14.2 million saw the Indianapolis Colts beat the New England Patriots on Sunday Night Football (5.3/12 in 18-49).
- The Simpsons (6.2/15) delivered 12.5 million.
- Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (11.7 million, 3.8/9) was off by 500,000.
- The Amazing Race (9.8 million, 2.8/7) did about the same.
- King of the Hill (4.3/10) registered 8.6 million.
- Valentine (800,000, 0.2/1) fell by 46,000.

Of all the cameos announced recently for 30 Rock (Jennifer Aniston, Oprah, Salma Hayek), I find this piece of news to be the most exciting.
Days after his hilarious performance on Saturday Night Live, it’s being reported that Jon Hamm may be loosening up his tie for the NBC comedy. According to Entertainment Weekly, the Mad Men star might set aside the suit to play Liz Lemon’s neighbor…and potential love interest.

Two Heroes Producers Shown the Door

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Drama, Prime Time, Sci-Fi/Horror, NBC, Heroes, News,

Operation “Stop the Bleeding” has just been put into effect at NBC.
After weeks of disappointing ratings, the network has chosen to make some changes on the Heroes set. Late this weekend, the show’s co-executive producers were given the boot.
According to Variety, Jesse Alexander and Jeph Loeb’s firings were a result of bad numbers all around. In addition to the show’s disappointing Monday results, production continuously exceeds the $4 million weekly budget.
This news comes on the heels of other programming decisions recently made by the Peacock network. Just last week, NBC altered its Wednesday and Friday lineups.

Although most shows saw lower numbers on Halloween night, CBS didn’t spook viewers away. In fact, the network - which dumped The Ex List last week - did even better thanks to a repeat of NCIS. Meanwhile, Lipstick Jungle‘s performance on NBC Friday looked downright scary. The program was down 35% from its last Wednesday outing.
8pm
- Ghost Whisperer (9.4 million, 2.2/8 in 18-49) was off by 600,000.
- Deal or No Deal (5 million, 0.9/4) gave away a million.
- Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader? (4.6 million, 10/4) lost 1.1 million.
- Wife Swap (3.6 million, 1.1/4) fell by 600,000.
- Everybody Hates Chris (1.3 million, 0.5/2) and The Game (1.2 million, 0.6/2) both sliced off 500,000.

Video of John McCain’s Saturday Night Live Sketches

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Late Night, NBC, Saturday Night Live, Video,
Last night, John McCain - with the help of his wife - hit Saturday Night Live and left no comedic stone unturned.
In the senator’s first sketch, he and Tina Fey gave their version of the Barack Obama infomercial. Acknowledging they did not have the Democratic dollars, McCain and “Palin” aired their spot on QVC. During their promo, they addressed the cost of Sarah’s expensive wardrobe and the caliber of their Hollywood supporters (Jon Voight, Heidi Montag). The Alaska governor also momentarily went rogue and talked about her 2012 run.
In the Republican nominee’s second sketch (which can be seen after the jump), he brought up the most overused word of 2008: Maverick.

Thursday Ratings: 30 Rock Gets Post-Palin Bump

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, Drama, Prime Time, Reality, Sci-Fi/Horror, ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, The CW, ER, Grey’s Anatomy, My Name Is Earl, Survivor, The Office, Ratings,
Politics has been kind to ratings-starved shows lately. On Wednesday, Pushing Daisies received a nice bump thanks to Obama’s primetime ad. Now 30 Rock has Tina Fey’s recent popularity to thank. Last night, the NBC comedy saw its highest numbers ever. But a minor ratings boost wasn’t enough to help NBC. By night’s end, CBS was still on top in both the viewers and the demos.
8pm
- Survivor: Gabon (13.1 million, 4.1/12 in 18-49) was off by 300,000.
- Ugly Betty (8.6 million, 2.5/7) was down a notch.
- My Name is Earl (6.2 million, 2.4/7) did about the same; Kath & Kim (5.5 million, 2.3/6) picked up 500,000.
- Smallville (4.2 million, 1.7/5) remained steady.
- A Kitchen Nightmares* repeat (1.5/4) served 3.6 million.

With less than 96 hours to go until Election Day, John McCain is prepared to take advantage of any press option available. And while he may lack the millions of dollars needed to buy several 30-minute infomercials, there is something he can always do for free: a Saturday Night Live appearance.

DWTS’ Lacey Schwimmer Also Diagnosed with Endometriosis

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Prime Time, Reality, ABC, Dancing With The Stars, News,
Just days after Julianne Hough announced her leave of absence, we’re learning that another DWTS professional has been diagnosed with endometriosis.
According to The Insider, Lacey Schwimmer just discovered that she too had this medical condition. Strangely enough, Julianne was the reason Lacey found out.
Once the 20-year-old realized she had symptoms similar to the ones Hough had, she went in for an evaluation. Her doctor informed her yesterday of the news. Fortunately for Lacey (and Lance), her situation will not require surgery. Because the condition was diagnosed early, medication is the only thing necessary at this time. Meanwhile, Julianne has already undergone surgery and is reportedly “at home resting comfortably.”
Endometriosis is the development of uterine-lining tissue outside the uterus on the surfaces of organs in the pelvis or abdomen where they are not supposed to grow. It is a common medical condition found in 5-10% of women of reproductive age around the world.
