It acts as a red laser pointer, a bank note checker, and surprise, is also a ball point pen. Finally, you can use the bugger as a mini-torch. At the minute weight of 30g, the pen comes with three spare lithium batteries and a minuscule price of $11.00.

New Zealander Reinvents the Mouse

Although it hasn’t changed much since its inception in 1964, Grant Odgers in New Zealand built what he believes to be a better mouse. He will be meeting with Microsoft and perhaps Logitech to show off his Swiftpoint. While sketchy on details, apparently the device is held between the thumb and index finger, and can be used with or without a flat surface. This sounds to us pretty close to the description of a pen, and in fact MS may be considering if it can replace those now used with its tablets. The Swiftpoint will make its debut March 4 at the CeBit in Hanover, Germany.

This ingenious device not only allows you to write last minute notes, but to destroy them as well. Use the Pen for messages that will only show up under ultra-violet light. If you are the worried that the baddies will see it, you can shred it instead of eating it. The pen comes with a message pad and batteries for £4.99 (~$10.00.) We can see this being used with other applications, such as destroying ATM slips or that extra receipt when your partner/spouse didn’t know you took that side trip to McDonalds on the way home from work.

Smartpen to be Launched in January

Yesterday, Livescribe told Gear Live that their Smartpen, the system that captures handwriting notes as well as audio, will be launched January 28 and are now taking pre-orders. They have updated their Website with additional details and images and instigated a forum to keep up on questions. The best news is that they will be giving away two a day through their launch date.The system, which consists of pen, paper, and software, can store more than 100 hours of audio and will come at a cost of less than $200.00.

DVR Pen Does More Than Write

For spies on the go, the DVR Pen has a wireless, low-power digital recorder and a microphone stuffed into an 0.55 x 5.7-inch pen. You can record 320 x 240p at 30 fps on flash memory or microSD and transfer data to PDA or PC via Bluetooth. The pen features 5 different motion detection sensitivity levels for low light targets and can send an alarm when movement occurs. And yes, it even writes. Still a prototype, Pacific Defence foresees a target date next March.
