Time Warner CEO wishful for an Apple TV set

Posted by Jason Diaz Categories: Apple, HDTV, Home Entertainment, Rumors,
Time Warner CEO, Jeff Bewkes, reiterates wishful sentiments from the cable company that Apple make their own branded television set, and shake up the entire industry, when the question was asked of him at a conference.
"I hope they do," he said, "I think Apple is a great device company."
The Time Warner CEO thinks that Apple can solve the go-to-market-strategy problem with the cable/content business.
"They bring good interface and navigation skills,"
Perhaps an à la carte hardware system is already in the making at the secretive Cupertino labs. Who knows, maybe television and content executives are already privy to the details while deals are being established. Gear Live has reported that Time Warner COO, Rob Marcos, stated that the cable company would be willing to cede control of user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) as long as they can still maintain a relationship with customers.
"It's really all about maximizing the capabilities to get Time Warner customers the best possible experience."

Merril Lynch Analyst: T-Mobile possibly getting iPhone next week

Posted by Jason Diaz Categories: Apple, Smartphones, Rumors,
Apple could get access to an additional 33 million users as speculation circulates that T-Mobile could get the iPhone by next week. Scott Craig of Merrill Lynch is saying "speculation is heightening" as parent holder Deutsch Telecom is slated to ink a deal with Apple to bring iPhone to T-Mobile stateside. This past year, T-Mobile has been very busy making its networks iPhone-compatible to utilize HSPA+.
Perhaps this is a change of heart as just last week T-Mobile COO Jim Alling stated, "Make no mistake about it: We would love to carry the iPhone," … "However, we want the economies to be right for us." Still, it's a double edge sword not having the iPhone. "We recognize that it has been a point of churn for us".
T-Mobile would have had the iPhone last year if the U.S. Dept. of Justice hadn't opposed AT&T (T) proposed acquisition of the company on antitrust grounds. - Philip Elmer-Dewitt, CNN Money

WIth the release of iTunes 11, Apple’s music player enters 64-bit era on OS X

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Apple, Software,
iTunes has been one of the last first-party Apple software holdouts stuck at 32-bit over the past few years. Many wondered when Apple would rewrite iTunes to the point where it would be 64-bit like just about all of Apple's other OS X apps, and that day has arrived with the release of iTunes 11. A quick check of Activity Monitor confirms it--iTunes is now a 64-bit Mac app.

OS X 10.8.3 beta reveals support for ATI 7000 Graphics, new Mac Pro imminent?

Posted by Jason Diaz Categories: Apple, PC / Laptop, Rumors,
It is being reported that OS X 10.8.3 beta has ATI Tahiti 7000 drivers support and can be found in the system profiler. This could very well mean that Mountain Lion is ready for an imminent Mac Pro refresh. In addition, the new iMacs are said to have Nvidia graphics, so this support isn't mean for those--no current Macs has these graphic chips, so it's good news for those hardcore users that need extra muscle and have been holding out.

Apple profits conceptualized

Posted by Jason Diaz Categories: Apple, Smartphones, Corporate News, PC / Laptop,
Here's a clear example of The Street missing the woods for the trees when it comes to valuing Apple stock while giving companies like Amazon high volume and low profit yield a free pass.
Notable Highlights between Oct 2011 - Sept 2012:
- Apple record breaking profit of 41.7 billion.
- Apple revenue is 156.5 billion.
- Combined profit of Facebook, Google Microsoft, Yahoo! and Amazon is 34 million.
- Combined profit of the PC industry of HP, Lenovo, Acer, IBM ASUS, Dell, and Intel is 19.3 billion.
One could extrapolate that the major Android OEMS combined makes less profit than Apple makes from the iPhone alone.

Siri’s Eyes Free Integration coming to Chevy Sonic LTZ / RS and Spark

GM is the first to announce Siri integration with two new car models: the Chevrolet Spark and the Sonic Drive. The feature was dubbed "Eyes Free" and was announced at Apple's World Wide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June by former iOS chief, Scott Forstall. Basically, "Eyes Free" will be integrated via the car's Bluetooth functionality and the iPhone itself. The user can then initiate Siri's voice command by tapping a button on the steering wheel, and Siri's responses will be played over the car's audio system. Other car manufacturers such as Chrysler, Honda, Toyota, Jaguar, Audi, Land rover, GM, BMW and Mercedes are slated to incorporate Siri's "Eyes Free" as well. Check out the full press release after the break.

will.i.am to release 14 megapixel iPhone camera attachment

Posted by John Kilhefner Categories: Accessories, Apple, Cameras,
Will.i.am of Black Eyed Peas fame apparently doesn't think his iPhone is smart enough, so he's planning to do something about it. He's even received a development license from Apple to produce and sell what he claims will turn the iPhone into a "genius phone" under his new i.am+ brand.
We have our own sensor and a better flash. You dock your phone into our device and it turns your smartphone into a genius-phone. We take over the camera...
"I was just hanging out [after a photo shoot], and one of the models took an iPhone picture, which circulated the planet before the shoot was even over... I took one of the photographer's lenses and held it up on my [phone] and said "imagine this one day". Then I said: "I'm going to do this"."
The camera attachment will clips onto the iPhone, bumping the 8 megapixel camera to 14 megapixels. A website is currently being produced (www.i.am) where users will be able to create profiles and assumedly share pictures and other content created with Will.i.am's app.
I.am+ is scheduled to make it's debut in London later this week, where pricing will also be announced.
