At WWDC 2009, aside from introducing the world to the iPhone 3G S, Apple also introduced a newly redesigned MacBook Pro. The MacBook Pro 2009 revision does away with the removable battery, but replaces it with a battery that lasts up to 7 hours. Oh, and we mean a real 7 hours, we’ve tested it. Also, the ExpressCard slot has been removed, and in its place we now have an SD card slot. The MacBook Pro will even boot off of an SD card if you tell it to.

ATT iPhone 3G customers pay more for iPhone 3GS

Amidst all the iPhone 3GS hype, there is some bad news today as well for owners of the current iPhone 3G who may want to upgrade. As it turns out, those $199/299 prices being thrown around aren’t for you. Those are for new customers, and those who are at the end of their contract. If you are a current iPhone 3G owner on AT&T, you’ll have to shell out $399 for a 16GB iPhone 3GS, or $499 for a 32GB model. Ever have your iPhone 3G replaced because it was faulty? You may be in for an even bigger shock. As you can see in the image above, there are two iPhones that AT&T is giving the upgrade status on. The thing is, both phones were purchased on the same day, and are on the same plan (I should know, as it is my account up there.) See how the upgrade dates are different? Straight up ridiculous.

Oh, and if you are just completely not eligible for an upgrade, or want to buy an iPhone 3GS with no contract commitments? The 16GB model will cost you $599, and the 32GB iPhone 3GS will run you a cool $699. I know, it hurts.

WWDC 2009 Keynote Live Updates

WWDC 2009 is about to get kicked off, with Phil Schiller kicking it off with the Apple keynote. We are hanging out at our local Apple store, and will be bringing you all the notable updates as things progress!

• Things get kicked off with a new Mac vs. PC commercial, where PC tries to discourage Mac from innovating at this year’s WWDC.
• At WWDC this year there are over 5200 attendees from 52 countries.
• We are starting with Mac news. Apple says they don’t want to stop leading with way with Macbook designs.
• Phil announces a brand new 15” MacBook Pro, with the Lithium Polymer battery that the 17” model sports. 7 hours of battery life 2 hours more than before. That is 40% longer.
• The new MacBook Pro has “the best display we’ve ever shipped on a notebook.”
• The 15” MacBook Pro picks up an SD Card slot, and drops ExpressCard.
• The price drops by $300. $1699 introductory price.
• At the introductory price, you get a 2.53GHz processor, 4GB RAM, 250GB hard drive, and the SD card slot.
• The 13-inch MacBooks also get the same SD card treatment, non-removable battery, and FIREWIRE IS BACK. The unibody MacBooks are now officially MacBook Pros.
• 13-inch MacBook Pro starts at $1199 with 2GB RAM, 160GB hard drive, SD card slot, 2.26 GHz processor.
• MacBook Air updated as well. $1499 for the base model, $1799 with 256GB SSD. $700 cheaper than before.

Prediction: iPhone Video launches Monday June 8

Apple will announce the iPhone Video at WWDC 2009 this coming Monday. That won’t be a surprise though, as many are expecting it, Walt Mossberg said it, and Apple needs to counteract the Palm Pre launch.

What you don’t know, though, is that Apple will likely make the iPhone Video available the same day. Yes, you will be able to pick up the next version of the iPhone on Monday, if you get to an Apple Store before they sell out.

Apple seeds Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard build 10A335 to developers

Apple has just seeded out the latest developer build of the forthcoming Mac OS X 10.6 operating system, also known as Snow Leopard. The latest build is 10A355, and early reports are that stability improvements are continuing as a trend across the board, while Apple has listed nine known issues in the seed notes for devs to take heed of, including the fact that Quicktime Player X may crash when playing DRM-protected content in 64-bit mode. All recent Apple hardware is now capable of running Snow Leopard in 64-bit mode, and when installed on either the Early 2008 or Early 2009 Xserve machines, 64-bit is the default.

We don’t yet have a firm date for the launch of Snow Leopard, but we are fairly certain that we will hear a lot more about that at WWDC 2009 in June.

iPhone 3G: The details

We’ve been waiting for it for a year, and Apple has finally delivered - the iPhone 3G was announced this morning during the WWDC 2008 keynote, to a rage of applause. Time to run down the entire feature set.

For starters, it’s an iPhone with 3G capabilities built right in. It is almost three times faster than the original iPhone even dared to be (actually, closer to 2.4x as fast). Since it’s using 3G technology, that means that you can surf the Internet, download email, and even watch video while you are on a call. Try doing that with your iPhone OldSchool. According to Apple, the iPhone 3G actually loads pages 36% faster than the Nokia N95 and Treo 750, both of which are also 3G phones. If you’re keeping track of which wireless technologies the iPhone now takes advantage of, that would be UMTS, HSDPA, GSM, WiFi, EDGE, GPS, and Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR.

That’s right, we said GPS. On iPhone 3G, the Maps application takes advantage of the built-in GPS chip. So while you are driving around, or even walking around, the iPhone finds your exact location. You are representing by a pulsating blue dot right on top of the Google Maps interface. Of course, you can get turn-by-turn directions to a destination, get live traffic info, and more.

How about battery life? All this extra stuff should result in a compromise, right? Wrong. iPhone 3G features 300 hours of standby time, 8-10 hours of 2G talk time, 5 hours of 3G talk time (which is amazing), 24 hours of audio playback, and 7 hours of video playback.

As for pricing and availability, this should be the best news of all. iPhone 3G is launching at half the price of the currently available iPhone. You can pick up an 8GB iPhone 3G at launch for just $199 USD. If 16GB is more your thing, that will run you $299, down from $499, and that one is available in both black and white. The phone launches in 22 countries, including the US, on July 11. Of course, you can hit up the Apple Store online to pre-order one today see more images of the phone. No pre-orders after all.

Live blogging the WWDC 2008 Steve Jobs Keynote

In just about five minutes, Steve Jobs will be taking the stage to give his WWDC 2008 keynote. We are monitoring all the news, and will be bringing you updates on everything going on, live, as it happens on stage. In case you’ve been summering in Antarctica, we are expecting the new 3G iPhone to be launched (and not expecting it to be as radical as others think it will be - no front-facing camera, no iChat video chat - just some 3G and GPS goodness), Snow Leopard should be given out to developers to take home with them in anticipation of the launch of OS X 10.6 at MacWorld 2009, and the new .Mac replacement we’ve all been hearing about, Mobile Me, should be announced and shown off to the masses.

Well, it’s just about time. Let’s get started…

The Apple Online Store! She’s down!

In a move that is completely shocking to most, on the morning of a WWDC keynote, the Apple Online Store has gone down! What in the blazes?!

In all seriousness though, at the very least, this confirms that we will definitely be seeing some new hardware when Steve Jobs takes the stage in 15 minutes or so. Or Mobile Me subscription packages.
