LG Nexus 4 announcement coming October 29th?

It appears that the next Google Nexus smartphone iteration is set to be announced on October 29th, according to French newspaper Le Figaro. The Nexus 4 is being manufactured by LG, a switch from Samsung and HTC, which have built past Nexus devices for Google. A quick run down of the specs: the Nexus 4 sports a whopping 4.7-inch IPS720p display, 8GB or 16GB of storage space (What? No 32GB or 64GB version?), 2GB RAM, 8-megapixel rear camera, and NFC, all powered by a Snapdragon S4 quad-core processor. Since this a "pure Google experience" device, it will ship with the latest version of Android, Jelly Bean.

Samsung announces Galaxy S III mini with 4-inch Super AMOLED display

We knew that the Samsung Galaxy S III mini was coming, and now it's official. The 4-inch smartphone was announced earlier today in Frankfurt, Germany, sporting Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, 1GB RAM, and a 1GHz dual-core processor. Other specs include the ability to choose between an 8GB and 16GB model (both are expandable with an extra 32Gb microSD card,) 4-inch Super AMOLED display, 5-magapixel rear camera, VGA front camera, and a bunch of wireless support (802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, FM radio, and NFC. Aside from pricing and availability, which is nowhere to be found just yet, we're wondering--when did 4-inch smartphones became referred to as "mini"?

Samsung Galaxy S III mini: Jelly Bean goodness for the budget minded

The Samsung Galaxy S III is a fantastic device (seriously, check our Galaxy S III review,) but if you're like us, you wish it were just a tad smaller. Well, Samsung has heard your cries, as the company is reportedly set to unveil a new Galaxy S III "mini" smartphone. The smaller handset will feature a 4-inch display, and should be announced in Germany on October 11. Word comes directly from Samsung's Head of Mobile Communications, JK Shin. Don't expect it to match all the high-end specs of its bigger brother, though. For example, expect a 5.0-megapixel camera an 800x480 Super AMOLED PenTile display, and a dual-core (instead of quad-core) processor, three notable differences. Still, those more budget-minded consumers who want in on some Samsung goodness can rest easy knowing that the Jelly Bean-powered mid-range handset will arrive soon.

Microsoft Office coming to iOS and Android in March 2013?

Seems the rumor reported about a native port of Microsoft Office to iPad is alive and kicking. On the eve of 2012, The Daily reported that it was present for a demo of a working version of Office for iPad but the rumor was somewhat shot down by Microsoft PR with a non-denial, saying that the leaked photos were not a real Microsoft software product. However, Microsoft didn't go as far as to deny that the iOS Office suite ever existed. Almost a full year later, IHNED has reported that Peter Bobek, a Microsoft Product Manager, has spilled the beans during a press event in Czech Republic.
Allegedly, Mr. Bobek has affirmed that Office for iOS and Android will be released around March 2013. There's also some noise about Office Web Apps, but nobody seems to care about those. So, if you're an Office user, but your preferred mobile platform is iOS or Android, don't get your hopes up just yet. If the past is any indicator, this latest rumor might not become a reality. Until then, iWork and Google Docs are not a bad alternative. Now, if you're the daring type, you may want to jump platforms altogether and go with the Microsoft Surface tablets and Windows Phone 8 to get your Office fix.

iOS 6 and iPhone 5 users now have a popular Google Maps feature available to them again--Street View. Google Street View is available in the Google Maps web app in Mobile Safari, as well as in the Chrome app. Users can save the web app to their Home screen for quick access to Google Maps. Not as elegant as a native app, but definitely usable.

Motorola Droid RAZR Maxx HD: Huge battery provides 21 hours talk time

Alongside the Droid RAZR HD that Motorola and Google announced this morning, there's also a version with a much bigger battery--the Droid RAZR Maxx HD. It's pretty much the same as the RAZR HD, with the exception of packing in 32GB of internal storage, and an incredible 3,300mAh battery that Motorola claims will provide up to 21 hours of talk time, or 8 straight hours of LTE-powered web browsing. The RAZR Maxx HD is 9.3mm thin, so a tiny bit thicker than the regular RAZR HD, but that's the price you pay to be a road warrior, right? Samsung Galaxy Note II: 5.5-inch 720p display, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, S Pen gestures

This morning Samsung announced its newest smartphone, the Galaxy Note II. Following up on the original Galaxy Note, the second edition is highlighted by a 16:9 5.5-inch 720p HD Super AMOLED display. Powering that is a quad-core 1.6GHz Exynos processor and 3,100mAh battery, which should make running Android 4.1 Jelly Bean on this one super-smooth. The device takes design cues from the Samsung Galaxy S III, which should be apparent by the curves and the similar color choices of Marble White and Titanium Gray. As far as optics go, expect an 8-megapixel rear camera that records 1080p video. Rounding things out, as you can see in the image, is the S Pen. Now sporting a rubber tip, Samsung believes the updated S Pen will have a feel much closer to pen and paper, and the Galaxy Note II has a bunch of S Pen quick commands and gestures. We've got no specific launch dates yet, other than that the phone will launch internationally by the end of 2012.

Motorola RAZR M 4G LTE details leak: Android 4.0, 4.3-inch display

Looks like the Motorola RAZR M 4G LTE device has been leaked with pics and specs galore. What can you expect from the former XT907 Verizon device? How about a 4.3-inch qHD display, 1.5GHz dual-core Qualcomm MSM8960 Snapdragon S4 processor, and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich out of the box? Yeah, we know, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean has been out for a couple of months, but that's how it goes with Android. Other features include 1GB RAM, an 8-megapixel rear camera and 3-megapixel front camera, 8GB internal storage (expandable with a microSD card,) and NFC. You get the same industrial Kevlar design that's found on the Droid RAZR and Droid RAZR MAXX, which is actually nice. We expect it to be officially unveiled on September 5th.
