KISS Taught Deadmau5 How to Perform
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Concerts / Tours, Gossip, Performances, Electronic, Rock,
Deadmau5 learned his showmanship from KISS. The producer wears a mouse-shaped helmet when performing and is known for putting on one of the most spectacular visual shows in dance music - making him one of the most highly paid DJs in the world - and he claims the idea came from the 70s glam rock band.
"The big turnaround for me was going to a Kiss concert. They're terrible. They suck so bad. I hope they don't read this. But their show is a f***ing show. They put a lot into making it entertaining. At one point, the guitarist pulls out a fricking bazooka and blows off a bit off the stage. How things have changed. I remember when [Nine Inch Nails frontman] Trent Reznor used to bring out a crappy old keyboard and smash it up, and everyone would say: 'Oh wow, that was so cool, we were at the concert where Trent snapped and smashed up his keyboard!' Bull***t. He used to do that every night. I loved the theatrics. It's about spectacle. That's what I realized."

Original KISS Lineup Would Never Reunite
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Gossip, Reunions, Rock,
Paul Stanley would never be friends with Peter Criss or Ace Frehley again.
The KISS singer would never allow the band's former guitarist and drummer - who left in the 80s, but rejoined the band between 1996 and 2002 and 2001 respectively - to play with the group again and claims they were never very close even in their 70s heyday.
"Friends? No I was never really friends with them. The band was never about friendship, the band was about commitment to a cause, but friendship? We were all very different people. I loved them for what we created together, I certainly don't love them today. But the band as it is today is far more the embodiment of what we started than what we became," Paul said.
When asked when he had last spoke with his former bandmates, Paul said, "I spoke to Ace probably three years ago. Peter I haven't spoken to in probably a decade."

Just Sex and Rock for KISS Members
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Gossip, Rock,
The legendary rockers of KISS surprisingly don’t adhere to a commonly used phrase in their industry.
“Even the phrase ‘sex, drugs and rock ‘n’ roll’ what a losers phrase that is! Why isn’t it just sex and rock ‘n’ roll? How did drugs become cool?” bass player Gene Simmons said. “You can’t win a marathon high, you just can’t. Don’t get me started.”
Gene - who claims to have slept with nearly 5,000 women - and singer/guitarist Paul Stanley are the only original members left in the band, who had their heyday in the 70s.
Drummer Peter Criss and guitarist Ace Frehley joined the group for a 1996 reunion but Gene and Paul realized they had still had the problems which originally caused the breakdown of KISS in the 80s. “There’s magic in people seeing the original line-up, but from there it was really downhill,” Paul said.
Gene, 60, added to The Sun newspaper: “If you listened to it objectively, it grew old pretty quickly. All of the bull-s**t we had to go through with the drugs and booze and lack of self esteem that Ace and Peter had just sucked the life out of us. It’s been a thorn in my side for a long time.”

ABBA Inducted Into Hall of Fame
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Artist News, Awards, Pop, Reggae, Rock,

Benny Andersson never expected ABBA to make it to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
The Swedish foursome will join the prestigious roll of honor much to the surprise of the “Waterloo” hitmakers. The musical group join The Hollies, The Stooges, Genesis and Jimmy Cliff in the upcoming induction.
“I didn’t think this would happen, because we were a pop band, not a rock band. Being a foreigner from the North Pole, this feels really good,” Andersson said.

Does Leighton Meester Leave You Singing?
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Gossip, Performances, Videos, Pop,
Is Leighton Meester really a hit singer wasting her time as a CW actress? Or is the Gossip Girl star just another beauty fronting an overproduced track?
Over the weekend, Meester helped kick off KISS FM’s Jingle Ball in Los Angeles. Her performance of “Somebody to Love” was coupled with a weak attempt at dancing and a strange bra-vest number.
But how was her actual singing? Watch the clip and you be the judge. Should Chuck Bass book his lady for a gig at his hotel? Or should this good girl gone bad stick Cobra Starship-esque cameos?

Red Hot Chili Peppers have been nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Artists can be inducted 25 years after their debut release and this is the first time the “Californication” hitmakers, along with rapper LL Cool J, have been up for the honor.
“It’s a real honor to be nominated in our first year of eligibility. Obviously the Hall of Fame has excellent musical taste,” drummer Chad Smith said.

Gene Simmons: Lambert Should Do “Ballads and Broadway”
Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Artist News, Rock,
Whether they loved it or hated it, everyone seems to have an opinion about American Idol 8‘s finale.
Even though he fully believes Adam Lambert will have a brighter career than Kris Allen, Gene Simmons doesn’t necessarily agree with the contestant’s musical leanings. The KISS bassist - who performed with Adam during the recent finale - told fans that he doesn’t see rock n’ roll in Lambert’s future.
“Respectfully, I don’t think Adam is a rock singer,” Simmons wrote on his website. “He sounds much more convincing singing ballads and Broadway shows. His voice doesn’t seem to have a ‘rock quality.’ But, I’m sure he’s going to do just fine.”
Hmmm, Broadway? Maybe Lambert has more in common with Clay Aiken than the Season 2 contestant would like to admit!
