Frank Ocean and Martin Gore of Depeche Mode

Frank Ocean has recorded a track with Depeche Mode's Martin Gore. The "Pyramids" singer has been in the studio with the electronic producer, as well as Christoffer Berg - half of Swedish duo The Knife - after he ran into Depeche Mode while they were recording their new album Delta Machine.

"Suddenly in the doorway, I sensed this presence, and I realized there was this guy standing there just watching. An assistant came up to me in between songs and said, 'Do you mind? Frank Ocean is here working in another studio and really wants to meet you guys.' I wouldn't have thought he would have even known who we are, but it turns out he's a big fan. Martin and Christoffer Berg ended up doing a track with him, which I think is going to be part of his new record. Martin did some electronics and some modular synthesiser stuff he really wanted," Martin's bandmate, Dave Gahan, told Entertainment Weekly.

Fun.Fun. originally wanted Rihanna to appear on 'We Are Young'.

The group's biggest hit - for which they won Song of the Year at the Grammy Awards last Sunday - features Janelle Monae, but they admit they initially thought Rihanna's vocals would work better on the track.

"They said, 'Who can we get? And I said, 'let's get Rihanna.' We were shooting for the stars on everything and she was kind of a muse. But everything works out for a reason and Janelle Monae worked out to be the perfect choice. She brought the right element of a great soulful flavour that we wanted for the album," producer Jeff Bhasker told MTV.

Although Fun. were an almost unknown act at that time, they were dreaming of pop stardom and reportedly had pictures of Rihanna on their studio wall. Jeff said the 'Diamonds' singer had heard the track, but never got around to recording vocals for it. "Someone tried to reach out and I know she heard the song and liked it. But I think some wires just got crossed," he added.

Kanye West and Will Smith

Kanye West has recorded a duet with Will Smith. The "Stronger" rapper and the Men In Black star were both recently in Brazil for the Rio Carnival and while they were there, they went into the studio together to lay down a new track.

The pair met in the studio of DJ Batutinha - producer and close friend of singer Naldo - and decided on a "funky" tune, which pays tribute to their time in the South American country. DJ Batutinha Brazilian said, "Kanye was keen to get to learn more about the funk in Rio and a DJ friend of mine referred him to me. Will and him went to the studio to get to know the sonority of the funk better. I spoke to them about Naldo and his production, and they thought we could all work out something together and launch this new project."

Johnny MarrJohnny Marr lives "in pursuit" of a songwriting relationship like the one he had with Morrissey.

The guitarist was a key member of 80s indie band The Smiths with Morrissey, and although they parted ways in 1987, he would still like to find another person who can write songs like him. Talking about Morrissey he said, "It was pretty apparent that he wasn't a blank canvas in terms of his ideas about being a singer. He was good to go and knew what he was about and where he wanted to go. It definitely felt like two equals. [In The Smiths] we were falling over ourselves with ideas that we were constantly amassing, and that's the greatest thing in the world. It's still what I'm trying to live my life in pursuit of, really. To find your opposite number who is up to speed was pretty remarkable."

Johnny also hopes The Smiths' lost demos for their first album, known as the Troy Tate Sessions, are eventually released.
