-Wyclef Jean has officially taken his name out of the race for the presidency of Haiti. “This was not an easy conclusion to reach; but it is one that was thoughtfully made,” he stated.
-Singer Bret Michaels is scheduled to go back into surgery early next year. That is when he’ll have an “operable and treatable” hole his heart—something unrelated to his recent medical issues—repaired.
-Borat actor Sacha Baron Cohen has been tapped to play Freddie Mercury in an upcoming biopic about the band Queen. Filming should begin next year. Surviving band members—Brian May, Roger Taylor and John Deacon—all support the project.

Although Eminem will be performing “Love the Way You Lie” at the Video Music Awards tomorrow, his musical partner won’t be there during the opening number.
Rihanna, who is currently filming Battleship in Hawaii, will be too busy to make the annual event. But from the sounds of it, she doesn’t really care.
“I definitely wish I could be there for Eminem. He’s performing the song we did together. It would have been nice to do it, but he understands. Obviously right now I’m doing something that is a priority to me,” she said about her acting debut. “The VMAs will be there next year. I’ll have a lot more music out by then.”
Speaking of new music, Rihanna promises her upcoming CD will take us “through a really interesting ride.” “The name of the album reflects the attitude,” Rihanna added. “It really grabs your attention.”
Loud hits stores on November 16.

LFO Singer Loses Battle with Leukemia

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Artist News, Hip-Hop & Rap, Pop,
Rich Cronin, lead singer for the musical group LFO, passed away this week after a long health battle. He was 36 years old.
Rich, who penned the trio’s breakout hit “Summer Girls,” was diagnosed with leukemia in 2005. Despite a number of setbacks—including chemotherapy, a stem cell transplant, a stroke and a return of the disease—Cronin was able to perform again with his former band members last summer.
“He was so happy,” Brad Fischetti told EW about Rich’s return to the stage. Although the group had hoped to hit the road again later this year, Cronin found himself back in the hospital.
“We really became soulmates,” Brad recalled about their last tour together. “Devin [Lima] and I both realized how much we loved him, despite the differences we had in the past. In New York City at the Highline Ballroom, he thanked the crowd at the end of the show. I’ll always have that voice in my mind, because it was such a sincere thank you. Really, that’s the memory that’s sticking out in my brain.”

MTV may have decided against using Russell Brand as a three-time host, but the Country Music Association has no problem with three-peats.
