We are now just two days away from welcoming a new year ... and only eight days away from hearing a new Britney Spears track.

The singer, who has been in the studio for a few months now, will debut a single produced by Max Martin and Dr. Luke on January 7.

Sharon Dastur, program director for New York's Z100, called the hook for "Hold It Against Me" just "amazing."

"And the beat that they give her is really unique compared to other artists — this infectious bass beat beneath the song," Dastur added.

Sounds like a great way to start 2011 to me!

Rascal Flatts

Will there be a day when Justin Bieber records a country album? Never say never.

During an interview with a radio station, Rascal Flatts' Gary LeVox announced that they had been approached by the pop singer.

"[Justin] asked us to do a duet with him on his next record," Gary revealed. "it's actually a really good song!"

The 16-year-old also confirmed his collaboration with the trio through his Twitter account. "I love @ and Im honored that they are making music with me," he wrote.

It's not known when that joint single will be released.

George Michael-Will singer George Michael have a new career as a reality show judge? The former Wham singer was reportedly offered a deal by Simon Cowell to appear on the U.S. version of The X Factor.

-Aretha Franklin returned home earlier this week after undergoing surgery in Detroit. According to her cousin, the Queen of Soul -- who is rumored to have pancreatic cancer -- is hoping to be back "on stage, late spring or early summer."

-Train's "Soul Sister" was iTunes' best-selling single of the year. Katy Perry's "California Gurls" ended 2010 in second place while Eminem and Rihanna's "Love the Way You Lie" placed third on the list.

-Funk legend George Clinton has accused the Black Eyed Peas of illegal sampling. He is suing the group for using "(Not Just) Knee Deep" in remixed versions of their song "Shut Up."

Tupac Shakur continues to remain a strong, mysterious musical force, and fans continue to feel the void he left behind ... but perhaps, some of their unanswered questions can still be addressed.

Journalist Kevin Powell has recently inked a deal to bring Tupac Shakur: The Authorized Biography to book stores, giving fans an inside look at the events that shaped, and ended, the rapper’s life.

His mother, Afeni Shakur, said the book is being written with her “full blessings.”

Tupac’s death will also be the center of a big-screen biopic from director (Training Day), which will focus on the events of his last day of life.

A documentary featuring the rapper’s time in jail, titled Uncut: The Lost Prison Tapes is scheduled for release January 26.

The Black Eyed Peas have officially announced, through will.i.am’s Twitter account, that they will be performing during the Super Bowl halftime show.

This season, the sporting event will be held in Dallas on February 6.

“They could have picked anybody,” will.i.am told Rolling Stone. “It says something that they picked us.”

Rapper Kanye West went on a 10-minute rant while closing a New York City show this week … and we’ve got the YouTube video to prove it.

During his tirade, West blasted the media for their representation of former President George W. Bush, and Taylor Swift for not sticking by him, Kanye West. “Taylor [Swift] never came to my defense in any interview,” he complained, saying Swift “rode the wave, and rode it and rode it!”

He also blamed the media for using him to make George W. Bush look stupid. “Look how they exploited him!” he cried. “They said that he said that it was his lowest moment,” when Kanye publicly denounced the President for not doing more in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.
