MTV Seeks Rocky Horror Remake

MTV plans to remake cult classic The Rocky Horror Picture Show

Yes, you unfortunately read that title correctly: MTV is seriously planning to remake the 1975 cult classic The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

While I cannot deny how popular musicals have become (i.e. Mamma Mia!, High School Musical, Hairspray), are there not already tons of other musicals to tamper with other than this one? Can producers possibly more cold-hearted than I thought?

On the upside (yes, there’s actually an upside) to this, the executive producer of the original, Lou Adler, is attached to the project, along with BermanBraun and Fox Television Studios. They also plan on using the original screenplay (thankfully!); however, they may incorporate songs not included in the original (what?).

Fire on Universal Lot

Universal Lot Fire

UPDATE: The cause was determined to be accidental. The fire was started by workers using a blowtorch.

Although the flames are not entirely extinguished, a fire at the lot in Los Angeles is now contained. The blaze, which erupted around 5 a.m. this morning has injured four firefighters. It has also damaged approximately 4-5 structures including New York Street, Courthouse Square, the video vault and the building that houses the King Kong exhibit.

While no cause has yet been determined, it is believed filming was going on at the time.

The fire, located at the backlot near the theme park, should not interrupt tonight’s taping of the 2008 MTV Movie Awards.

MTV Showcases New Choke Trailer

Official Choke posterWhile things failed to appear very promising with the mixed reviews out there thus far, the trailer for nihilistic author Chuck Palahniuk‘s latest novel-turned-film doesn’t actually look that bad!

Despite the fact that I am as much of an MTV hater as the next person, I have to admit that they do help out a couple independent films here and there that I end up truly enjoying (think Better Luck Tomorrow or Orange County). With that said, I was extremely disappointed to read the bad reviews on Choke, although seeing that MTV is now airing the official trailer for the film got my hopes up a bit. They even have an interview with Palahniuk himself on the New Jersey set.

As for the trailer (check it out after the jump), aside from the weird porn background music, Sam Rockwell seems to have pulled Victor Mancini’s persona straight from Palahniuk’s very pages. The very racy and provocative film’s release date has been pushed back to September 26th.

No Hills Movie for Heidi Montag

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Rumors, Upcoming Releases,

Heidi MontagDespite having a loser boyfriend (a.k.a. Spencer Pratt), a questionable singing career and a soon-to-be-on-the-clearance-rack clothing line - says she wants nothing to do with a proposed movie version of The Hills.

Don’t get me wrong—I think a big screen version of the reality show would be a ridiculous idea.  But should Heidi be turning her back on really the only thing she’s known for?

In an interview with , Montag says she would like to set her sights much higher when it came to the film industry:

“I’ve never discussed a movie possibility for ‘The Hills’…and I’m not sure if for my first movie I’d let Lauren Conrad narrate me, so I don’t think that would be something I would do.  If I was doing movies, I’d want it to be with Denzel Washington or something like that. If they were to make a ‘Hills’ movie, I wouldn’t be in it. No, thank you.”

Uhh, Denzel Washington?  This is coming from someone who couldn’t even lip-synch in her own music video.

Michael Cera to Star in Film Adaptation of Youth in Revolt

Michael Cera to portray Nick TwispYouth In Revolt, both a critically acclaimed novel by C.D. Payne and a failed MTV mini-series, has been adapted into a screenplay and began production early this year. This original and hilarious black comedy will star (Juno, Superbad) as the story’s overly sex-crazed protagonist, Nick Twisp, who - along with an inconvenient hair trigger on his erectile response - involves himself in arson, car theft, homelessness and even an identity change to satisfy his pubescent desires and finally lose his virginity. Although no other cast members have been confirmed, Cera’s recently built reputation for the role as the awkward teen with no grip on a decent romantic or sex life (which rightfully won him 2 nominations for Best Young Actor this year) will certainly do great justice for the role.

‘X-Files’ Casting Decisions

Xzibit, no stranger to the filming studio thanks to MTV, has joined the cast of the upcoming X-Files movie and are already signed on for supporting roles in the flick.

One source says the rapper and the movie star (Xzibit and Peet) will play FBI agents working with Scully and Mulder, the stars of the show and the film. The plot is being kept very hush-hush, and FOX is releasing very little information on which roles the actors will play. Xzibit has played roles in films before and was set to appear in the film, Pinkville. The Pinkville project, however, has been scrapped because of the ongoing and seemingly unending writer’s strike.

Official Title Announced for ‘Indiana Jones’

Indiana JonesIn a truly auspicious moment at Sunday’s Video Music Awards, Shia LeBeouf announced the title of the upcoming fourth installment in the Indiana Jones series:

So I’ve been sworn to secrecy by Steven Spielberg and George Lucas not to tell you the title of the next Indiana Jones movie. What the hell, I’m 21 and we’re in Vegas, baby, so here it goes. The official title to the next Indiana Jones installment: Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.

The much-anticipated film has already been filming for several months and will star Harrison Ford, Shia LeBeouf, Cate Blanchett, Jim Broadbent, John Hurt, Ray Winstone and Karen Allen.  It’s scheduled to open in theatres May 22, 2008.

Does anyone else think the title is a bit busy?  I mean, at least Raiders of the Lost Ark was officially titled as such, without the Indiana Jones and the at the beginning.  It could be worse, I suppose—how about Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Shiny Crystal Skull or Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull that Bites People.  Imagine if M. Night Shyamalan, once offered a chance to write the screenplay, had penned the script: Indiana Jones and the Amish Comic Book Alien in the Water that Sees Dead People.  Scary.  But I’d love to see the poster.

Oh well, I suppose the title has little to do with the content—let’s hope that the film supersedes its bloated moniker, hmm?
