+ Seth Green - whom you may recall from Robot Chicken, Family Guy, and Austin Powers - gives Larry King a compelling explanation as to why Ben Affleck is a poor choice as Batman in the upcoming Batman Vs. Superman film.
+ Bette Midler is set to appear at this Oscars this year - additionally, she'll be singing for the first time!
+ Pushing Daisies creator Bryan Fuller is in talks with Warner Bros. and Barry Sonnenfeld to adapt the short-lived (and much-loved!) ABC series into a musical for Broadway, which would star Pushing Daisies alum Kristin Chenoweth. Fuller says that he is also contemplating a film adaptation.
+ Michael Patrick King, who wrote for the Sex and the City series and directed both film adaptations, says that there's one more story to tell for Carrie, Charlotte, Miranda, and Samantha - greatly hinting at the possibility of a third film.

Box Office Breakdown: A-Team’s Face Kicked by Karate Kid’s Foot

The battle of the ‘80s remakes was won by an actor born in 1998.
Despite featuring no actual karate and a Smith named Jaden, The Karate Kid had no problem kicking up Will Smith-esque dollars this weekend. (I’m sure it had something to do with that Justin Bieber song.). Sony’s remake of the 1984 classic surpassed early projections by rallying to a $55.7 million finish. The film’s debut means the 11-year-old star has already managed to outperform most of his father’s films. (I Am Legend opened to $77.2 million in 2007; Hancock premiered to $62.6 million in 2008.)
Meanwhile, Fox’s reboot of The A-Team cranked out what could be considered a B-grade performance. The movie, which cost over $95 million to make (compared to Karate‘s $40 million), only rang up $25.7 million in its first three days. That’s barely above the figure Liam Neeson’s Taken earned in 2009 ($24.7 million) and nowhere near the debut Bradley Cooper and Jessica Biel had with Valentine’s Day ($56.2 million).

Box Office Breakdown: Audiences Get to the Greek…and Shrek

Ashton Kutcher may have more Twitter followers than Diddy and Russell Brand combined - but that achievement wasn’t reflected at the box office this weekend.
Despite pirating the first 13 minutes of Killers, Kutcher was unable to generate enough interest to earn more than third place. The film - Katherine Heigl’s first since leaving Grey’s Anatomy - only rounded up a mere $15.8 million. (In other words, Ashton got about $3 from each of his Tweeps.)

Box Office Breakdown: Theatergoers Choose Shrek Over Sex

Shrek - not cosmopolitans - was what fans were buying this weekend.
Despite competition from two heavily-promoted features, an aging green ogre was able to hang on to his title for two weeks in a row. Shrek Forever After raised an additional $57 million during the Memorial Day frame to bring its domestic total to $146.8 million.
Meanwhile, Warner Bros. proved that people can get tired of sex. Sex and the City 2 - which featured the return of Aidan Shaw (John Corbett) - couldn’t get past the bad reviews to even match the first film’s numbers. (Sex and the City opened to $56.8 million in May 2008.) The lovely ladies also couldn’t overpower Jake Gyllenhaal’s four-day haul. Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time wound up snagging second place with a $37.8 million debut.

Sex and the City Sequel is a Done Deal

Ladies, get your high heels ready. All the appropriate contracts have been signed, and Sex and the City is becoming an even bigger franchise. That’s right: a Sex sequel will be forthcoming.
A spokesperson for New Line has confirmed that the movie’s four female stars and head writer Michael Patrick King have signed on for much more Sex. This news probably doesn’t come as much of a shock. After the money the first flick made, New Line would probably do anything to get the girls back on the set.
The movie will be in theaters, if all goes according to plan, sometime in the summer of 2010. And what’s the word on the script? In a recent statement, King had this to say: “I’m very excited to work with these amazing actresses again and would love to give everyone more information about the sequel…but I’m busy with my Sex life.”

Could fans possibly get more Sex?
Just in case you thought the story was over for Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte - don’t put your glasses down quite yet. While it could be another five years before we see the women back in action, the door on Sex and the City will never be completely closed.
Even though he didn’t create the current installment with a sequel in mind, writer/producer/director Michael Patrick King says he wouldn’t be opposed to revisiting the series.
“I wrote that movie with a beginning, middle and end because I didn’t want to leave the audience unfulfilled. The actresses are great, and if the gods smile and people are still interested, why not?”

Busting the Block: Does Sex and the City Have the Power?

With mega-hits like Indiana Jones also premiering this summer, what chance does the female-oriented Sex and the City movie really have for big box office numbers? A somewhat raunchy cable show that ran on a network which worshiped The Sopranos, Sex enjoyed its fair share of popularity during its six-year stint. But come on, four years have gone by. Could Sex really make it to the status of summer blockbuster?
If the New York crowds which gathered for every single day of shooting, all waving cameras and screaming their heads off, are any indication, the Sexy movie could surpass all expectations and change everything we know about a series-turned-cinema event. “Crowd control was difficult to deal with,” said Sarah Jessica Parker on filming the movie (largely based in New York City, as was the series). “It’s a wonderful problem to have that kind of interest; it was exciting to have that energy around us.”
Creator Darren Star and executive producer Michael Patrick King have each said they wanted the series to seem more like a movie - which is why it was often shot on the streets of New York with glossy, careful direction. That’s why Star thinks the series lends itself beautifully to a run on the silver screen.
The movie has had it’s gala premiere (er, it’s had three), and all that’s left now is a big opening weekend. It all happens Friday.
