Jennifer Lawrence to Go on Hiatus

Jennifer LawrenceJennifer Lawrence is going to take a year's break from acting.

The 23-year-old actress has made eight films in the past 12 months, and Harvey Weinstein - who worked with her on Silver Linings Playbook - has revealed she is about to have a much earned "rest."

"She's going to have a long break for a year where she won't do anything. It's been non-stop for her and she deserves a rest," he told The Sun.

The famed producer also defended her decision to not attend the BAFTAs ceremony, despite receiving an award for her role in American Hustle. "Jennifer is too nice and will do people favors and agrees to do a movie like American Hustle when she could have had a rest. She signed on to do Hunger Games when she was young and wouldn't have realized how much it would dominate her life. But she's a professional and always will be," the famed producer explained.

Grace of Monaco to Open Cannes Film Festival

Nicole Kidman on set of 'Grace of Monaco'Grace of Monaco will open this year's Cannes Film Festival.

Olivier Dahan's biopic, which stars Nicole Kidman as the iconic Hollywood actress-turned-princess, is set to make its grand debut on May 14 during the prestigious film festival in the south of France, although it will appear out of the competition.

The Hollywood Reporter confirmed the news amidst rumors the movie might never see the big screen after it was pulled from the official US release schedule on Thursday. The film's original November release was delayed because it was said not to be ready for viewing, and it was then pushed back to March 14.

Dahan previously admitted he disagreed with Harvey Weinstein over the film's final edit, which was thought to be the reason behind the delay. "What's complicated at the moment is ensuring that you, the critics, can review my version of the film and not that of somebody else. It's not over yet. I haven't given up," he said.

Shia LaBeouf Bulked Up for ‘Lawless’

Shia LaBeouf in LawlessShia LaBeouf had to bulk up for his role in Lawless.

The 26-year-old actor was instructed to pile on the pounds for the Prohibition-era gangster movie and he admits it took him some time to get used to his new muscles. "I had to gain 40 pounds. That was probably the most physically arduous thing I've done, you know? I've never had that kind of weight on my chest before. It's something to get used to."

Shia stars alongside an A-list cast comprised of Tom Hardy, Gary Oldman, Jessica Chastain, Mia Wasikowska and Guy Pearce, but admitted the most intimidating thing about the role was learning to drive the vintage cars on set. "It's not like you've got a clutch and a throttle - it's totally different; you've got pedals that you've never seen before. You look down at the floorboard - there are 12 pedals there. You think you're flying a hover board. These old-school trucks were very difficult to drive," he explained.

Blue Valentine Ditches NC-17 Rating

Although it looked like , starring Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams, would have to find a home in theaters with an NC-17 rating – the film has now been stamped with the letter "R."

The movie about a couple and their failing relationship was initially given the more adult rating by the MPAA because of what the group deemed “explicit sexual content.” The Weinstein Co. – arguing that this film was no more excessive than other R-rated entries – vowed to appeal the decision.

“If [Piranha 3D] got an NC-17, I’d be the first going, ‘All right, we gotta cut some of that stuff,’” Harvey Weinstein said. “It’s ridiculous -- a penis got coughed up in the movie by a piranha!" (NOTE: That film was rated R.) "They don't give [NC-17's] for violence, they give them for sexuality," Gosling added to E! back in November.

Rob Lowe to Purchase Miramax?

Rob Lowe is said to be involved in a bid to buy Miramax Films.

The actor has been linked to a deal by Tom Barrack’s Colony Capital, which is among a number of bidders for the production company, responsible for movies including The Queen and No Country for Old Men.
“It’s fair to say Lowe’s a friend of Colony and he’ll be involved in some larger sense. They value his opinion and he has ideas,” a source told The New York Post.

Talks with Harvey and Bob Weinstein - who co-founded and are responsible for the release of films such as Pulp Fiction and Shakespeare in Love - have faltered, meaning Colony has taken the lead in discussions, which may conclude in the next few days. Colony is said to have considered placing a bid of between $600 million and $700 million for the company, while the Weinstein’s earlier bid was thought to be around $550 million.

According to TMZ, Lowe, Barrack and construction mogul Ron Tutor plan to turn Miramax into a “multi-platform media company, similar to DreamWorks.”

Upcoming films set to be released by Miramax include The Switch starring and Jason Bateman and Last Night with Keira Knightley and Sam Worthington.

Harvey Weinstein Slightly Justifies A Single Man Marketing

Original A Single Man poster

When the original movie poster (above) for Tom Ford’s directorial debut, A Single Man, appeared online, fans questioned whether or not distributors The Weinstein Company was downplaying the major gay theme of the film.

In the film, Colin Firth plays a closeted professor who mourns over his lover’s (Matthew Goode) death. Judging by the poster of Firth in bed with Julianne Moore (whose screen time is rumored to be fairly short), I think it’s safe to say that there was little intention to illustrate said storyline.

Upon the recent release of the film’s second poster (seen after the jump), Harvey Weinstein was questioned about the marketing that seems to say something other than the real message at hand.

Inglourious Basterds Prequel Possibly in the Works

Inglourious Basterds posterWith one of the world’s most vied-for actors at your command and scoring an impressive $38 million at the box office, it’s nearly impractical for Quentin Tarantino to not pursue another Inglourious Basterds film.

According to Eli Roth, the chances are pretty good.

“Everybody would drop whatever they’re doing to go back to work with Quentin… All the time, Brad says, ‘Prequel, prequel!’ All the ‘basterds’ would jump on it in a second. We have three scenes that we shot in Boston that take place before the war, and Quentin says if he does the prequel, he’s going to use them. They’re not going to be DVD extras.”

Without spilling too many secrets, Roth briefly describes one of the scenes, which features a rather random cameo…
