Casting Corner: Anne Hathaway, Nick Nolte, David Duchovny and More

Anne HathawayNick Nolte

Here’s a quick look at some of the casting announcements made recently:

Anne Hathaway: The actress, who will soon be competing against Kate Hudson in Bride Wars, will reverse direction in The Opposite of Love. In the 20th Century Fox production, Anne will play a commitment-phobic woman who must deal with a marriage-minded boyfriend. Opposite is an adaptation of Julie Buxbaum’s best-selling book. Hathaway’s next film, Rachel Getting Married, opens in limited release on Oct. 3.

Nick Nolte: The actor, who was last seen as Four Leaf Tayback in Tropic Thunder, is signed on to star in Arcadia Lost, a drama set in Greece. Nolte will play an expatriate vagabond who befriends two teens after their parents are killed during a road trip. The movie will be directed by Phedon Papamichael, the cinematographer behind Walk the Line and Sideways.

Rachel Bilson: The O.C. star is set to begin filming later this month on Waiting for Forever, a James Keach movie. Forever focuses on an intentionally jobless man who intends to live in Hollywood with this TV actress girlfriend. (I presume Bilson will play said girlfriend.) This indie comes after New York, I Love You, another indie Rachel has already shot.

David Duchovny: Fortunately for Duchovny, he’ll have work to keep him busy post-rehab. The X-Files actor is next scheduled to hit the big screen in The Joneses, a dramedy co-starring Demi Moore and Amber Heard (Pineapple Express). The trio will play a seemingly perfect (yet fake) family hired by a marketing company. The posers infiltrate a suburban neighborhood in hopes of promoting luxury products.

Keira Knightley: Keira is currently in discussions to appear in yet another period drama - this time for Nick Cassavetes. The Duchess star is reportedly close to starring in The Beautiful and the Damned, a story about author F. Scott Fitzgerald and his wife Zelda Sayre. Keira would play the “tempestuous” woman who eventually wound up in a sanitarium. Filming on Beautiful is scheduled to begin in April.

Ben Affleck: With Jennifer Garner preparing to dive into motherhood once again, Ben Affleck is finding more time to work. The actor - who is currently filming Extract - is now in negotiations to star in The Company Men, a John Wells movie. Affleck would play a man who is downsized from his job and must deal with the financial consequences. This news comes shortly after Ben signed on to direct and star in The Town, a Warner Bros. production.
