Black Swan Expected to Influence Spring Fashion
Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Fashion Designers, Fashion Shows,
Prepare yourself for a bombardment of tutus, feathers, and knits -- Rodarte fans are swooning everywhere! It's bad enough that people are clocking in more hours at the gym because of Black Swan, but now clothing designers are banking on the film's popularity in hopes that consumers will flock to their stores, too.
Costume designer Amy Westcott worked with Rodarte duo Kate and Laura Mulleavy in bringing the gothic fairytale looks to life. "We had an affinity for the subject matter," Kate said. She added that it helped her understand the "darker nature and twisted kind of underbelly" of the ballet world.
Lagerfeld's Spring/Summer 2011 collection already reflects a feminine-with-a-dash-of-darkness theme, complete with dark eye makeup, sheer materials, and jeweled fabrics. BCBG Max Azria and Lipsy of London are due to sell tutus come this Spring.
Amidst this dance craze, let's not forget that there's always American Apparel.

And what an imaginative, beautiful way for the clothes' last show -- check out the video above.

Mulleavy Sisters Guest Edit Lula Issue, Style Kirsten Dunst
Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Celebrities, Editorials, Fashion Designers, News,
Despite the high pressure demands of designing their Rodarte line, Kate and Laura Mulleavy somehow managed to both design costumes for Black Swan and guest edit next month's issue of Lula!
In the Fall/Winter 2010 issue -- on newsstands now -- the creative duo styled a Kirsten Dunst editorial shot by their friend Autumn de Wilde, designed Charlotte Gainsbourg's cover dress, and cajoled Tavi Gevinson and Sofia Coppola to contribute to the fashion mag.
The magazine also includes behind-the-scenes shots of Natalie Portman in Black Swan designs, which show more of the intricacies the sisters are known for that were lost somewhat in the film. Nan Goldin shoots the main editorial featuring Gainsbourg, which was styled by Leith Clark.
All in all, the few previews of the magazine that are out (seen after the jump) are sure to please any Rodarte/Mulleavy fan (or anyone who adores fashion, anyway!).

—Despite the behind-the-scenes drama supermodels Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell made about sharing an i-D cover with Lady Gaga, the magazine ended up with all three divas on separate covers.
—Lady Gaga is reportedly set to star in her own autobiographical film, directed by Bryan Singer. Don’t act like you didn’t see that one coming.
—Steven Meisel looked to the Gulf oil spill for inspiration: his Italian Vogue editorial stars Kristen McMenamy, styled by Karl Templer. The fashion industry doesn’t always have to be vacuous…
—Once again, it pays to be a celebrity’s kid: Zoe Kravitz nabbed a gig modeling for Alexander Wang’s T line. Co-starring Max Motta, the ads are expected to hit New York streets as early as this Thursday.
—Harper’s Bazaar makes Rachel Zoe as a fashion victim—literally. The celebrity stylist and reality star strikes several different poses in scenes where designers Marc Jacobs, Vera Wang, and Michael Kors appear to murder her!
Nordstrom Banking on Eclipse Frenzy
Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Celebrities, News, Sales,
It seems like everyone wants a piece of the Twilight pie these days.
After Twi-hards raided Hot Topic in time to plaster Robert Pattinson‘s face onto their chests for the previous two films, Nordstrom has offered a brighter, more stylish alternative for fans who may not be big into brooding t-shirts.
Would you wear these $28 tanks to display your allegiance at Eclipse‘s opening tonight?

—Louis Vuitton models walked down the catwalk with temporary tattoos from artist Scott Campbell. Ed Hardy much?
—Actress Jessica Alba has completed her good deed of the week, swaying a 21 year-old Chinese woman from getting plastic surgery to look like her, in hopes of winning her ex-boyfriend back.
—Burberry’s Fall/Winter 2010 ad campaign has hit the interwebs. The photos star a beautiful and British blend of models and musicians. Great, another reason to be jealous of not being British.
—After the critical success of his directorial debut, it’s no wonder that Tom Ford is taking on a second film. Unfortunately, he’s not letting any details slip just yet.
—Emma Watson attended the Glastonbury Music Festival looking somewhat stylish. I’m loving her Louis Vuitton corset, but not necessarily agreeing with her choice in blue jean shorts.

Valentino Thanks Jackie Kennedy For Success
Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Fashion Designers, News, Rumors,
Valentino believes he owes his fashion career to Jackie Kennedy.
In new movie Valentino: The Last Emperor - a documentary on the style guru’s fashion empire - the hot-headed Italian admits his success was down to president John Kennedy’s stylish wife wearing his clothes in the 60s. The coveted designer - real name Valentino Garavani - said, “She was the lady who made Valentino, and I made hundreds of dresses for her.”
The 78-year-old icon - who stepped down as the fashion house’s creative director two years ago - also admits his favorite creation was the famous black and white gown worn by Julia Roberts when she picked up her Best Actress Oscar in 2001.
“I saw it on TV. If movie stars love your clothes, that’s very important to me.”
According to the Daily Telegraph newspaper, the film also highlights Valentino’s eccentric and lavish lifestyle. Shot two years before he left the fashion house in 2008 after 45 years, the fly-on-the-wall film documents the legendary fashion designer’s six luxury homes, 150-foor yacht and five pet pugs. It also features his famous temper - which he admits he doesn’t care fans seeing - because it has made him who he is.
