Christina Aguilera Wants to Empower Women

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Celebrities, Health & Beauty,

Christina AguileraChristina Aguilera hopes her curvy figure will "empower" women. The 31-year-old "Your Body" singer - who has attracted a huge amount of publicity for her current weight - insists she is comfortable in her own skin and hopes her struggle will "empower" other women.

"I'm always in support of someone who is willing and comfortable in their own skin enough to embrace it. Embracing your body is so important, especially as a woman. In this business we are so analysed and judged. It's wonderful to be in a position and have that side of myself that I can latch on to and empower other women. The older you get, the more important it is to embrace your body and your sexuality."

The Voice judge also opened up about her four-year-old son Max and the pressures of juggling motherhood and her career: "I can wear different hats - for example, the artist hat. When I'm on that stage and I've been in the wardrobe getting dressed up to play a character, I am living out a specific moment in a song. That hat is very different to the one I wear when I go home at night and I tuck my son in and I'm singing Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star. It's a crazy thing, it's an interesting road he has ahead of him, but as I said, I try to keep all the different hats I wear very different so that Mummy's hat is very different from party hat. It's a real balancing act for me."

Kim Kardashian Wants Supermodel Figure

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Celebrities, Health & Beauty,

Kim KardashianKim Kardashian wants to be "skinny for a day."

The Keeping Up With The Kardashians star has learned to accept her curvaceous figure, but she still wishes she was thinner and wants to have a supermodel's figure.

"If I could have anyone's body, I'd love to be a supermodel. I'd love to be skinny for the day. It's a process. You have to learn to accept it. You have to learn to like what you see in the mirror, but there are definitely times when I don't. I'm built a certain way and you just can't change that."

The 31-year-old star - who is in a relationship with Kanye West - is "not always confident" about showing off her body, and despite working out at the gym on a regular basis, she has particular hang-ups about her thighs.

"In Hollywood, people are used to stick-skinny women, and that's never going to be me. Growing up, I'd look at those skinny models and feel like I looked different. I'm not always confident. I have hang-ups like everyone else - I've never been a big fan of my thighs. I work hard at the gym to look like this. It's not easy and I have to work at it every day of the year, and watch what I eat."

Tyra Banks: I Used to Get Told I Was Too Fat

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Health & Beauty, Models,

Tyra BanksTyra Banks used to get letters saying she was "too fat" when she was a size six.

The America's Next Top Model host has spoken out in support of Vogue magazine's anti-eating disorders initiative and she has slammed fashion designers for only hiring skinny models.

"When I was a model I was a four and then I started to become curvy and became a six and I got so many letters saying I was way too big and fashion designers were telling me I was fat. My mom got letters from designers saying they are not going to hire me anymore," she said.

The 38-year-old supermodel recalls being shocked at seeing models so skinny they had developed lanugo, a fur that can appear when a person is malnourished, and she is grateful to the publication's campaign for highlighting some of the issues in the fashion industry: "This is a really big deal as it's been an unspoken rule in my opinion that the fashion industry says it's OK to be as skinny as you can just as long as you can walk and you don't faint. I would see girls that had lanugo on their skin, a duck-like fur that comes on your body when you're anorexic when you're body is screaming out for warmth."

Jennifer Lawrence on GlamourJennifer Lawrence has laughed off suggestions that she looks "chubby" in The Hunger Games.

The 21-year-old actress - who portrays heroine Katniss Everdeen in the movie - thinks it's "hilarious" that people are suggesting she is too chunky to play the character, as she thinks it promotes an unhealthy lifestyle to young girls.

"Jennifer told me, 'This is hilarious. First, people say how so many actresses in Hollywood look anorexic, and now they are criticizing me for looking normal. Thin body images are too often adopted by young girls and women thanks to what they are constantly being shown as being attractive," a source close to the actress said.

Comments from film critic Todd McCarthy in which he referred to the Winter's Bone star as possessing "lingering baby fat" and Jeffrey Wells calling her a "big-boned lady" unleashed a torrent of furious responses from Hunger Games fans.

Kim Kardashian Works Hard for Body

Kim KardashianKim Kardashian will always work hard to make sure her body is in its best shape.

The reality TV star is famed for her curvy and sexy figure, but says if she wasn't feeling comfortable with the way she looked, she would do something to change it.

"If I don't feel confident about my body, I'm not going to sit at home and feel sorry for myself and not to do something about it. It's all about taking action and not being lazy. So you do the work, whether it's fitness or whatever. It's all about getting up, motivating yourself and just doing it."

Kim also said her self confidence has improved with age and she is a lot more comfortable with her looks. "I didn't always have a lot of confidence - especially early on. As a teenager, and even in college, it was always my sisters that were the confident ones. But as I've got older, my confidence has definitely grown and I like the person I am today because of that. I get a lot of my confidence from my sisters," the 31-year-old beauty told Britain's Cosmopolitan."

L’Wren Scott Was Too Tall for Fashionable Clothes

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Fashion Designers, Models,

L'wren ScottL'Wren Scott could never find anything to fashionable to wear when she was younger because she was so tall.

The 6ft 3in designer - who is currently dating Rolling Stones legend Sir Mick Jagger- says while her height has enabled her to be a successful model, it also has it hindrances.

"I was so tall and so skinny - I was that kid who couldn't find anything to wear. All the cool kids would have jeans the right length and I would just think 'What am I going to do?'" she said.

As well as having a successful modeling career, L'Wren is also a well-respected designer after launching her own label in 2006 and says it's important for women to feel good in her creations: "I wanted to create things that you can always pull out of your closet and rely on. I wanted to create a timeless, classic collection of clothing that you can keep expanding on. If you don't feel good in it, don't wear it because you'll never look good."

Lauren Conrad Avoids Certain Trends

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Celebrities, Fashion Designers,

Lauren Conrad admits there’s “probably a million things” she can’t wear.

The former Hills star says there are many trends which don’t suit her, and urges other women to stick to their look and body type when choosing their wardrobe.

“I think the best style advice I’ve ever been given was to flatter your own body. A lot of trends come out and they’re not necessarily for everyone.  There’s probably a million things I can’t wear. I can’t wear high waisted jeans. They look fabulous on some people, but it’s also a good example of how you’re not always supposed to slavishly follow every single trend - just the ones that look nice on you.”

Lauren also opened up about her wardrobe staples, rating jeggings, skinny jeans and baggy sweaters as her most sought after items.

“I love oversized sweaters, but I like them with a lighter weight, so I usually buy a lot of my sweaters a couple of sizes larger. Then I can wear them with a skinny jean or a leather legging. I love maxidresses, especially if they’re long enough to be worn with a heel because they make you look much taller. Skinny jeans or a jegging are definitely a staple - I wear them most days. I also love wearing either minidresses or miniskirts.”

Christina Hendricks Carries a Heavy Load

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Celebrities, Health & Beauty,

Christina HendricksMad Men star thinks that her sex symbol image is a “heavy load” to carry. The 35-year-old beauty admitted that while she loves being an inspiration to women around the world, it can be a burden.

“It was quite a compliment to be acknowledged like that, but it’s a heavy load. It is a wonderful thing that she said but I’m not going to feel responsible for anyone or anything. If I’ve made someone feel better about their curves then that would make me feel really proud.”

However, Christina - who is married to actor Geoffrey Arnaud - revealed she goes through phases of being unhappy with her body.

“I’ve always been pretty healthy about my figure. It’s just my body, you know. Every once in a while someone says something that’s a little inappropriate, but for the most part people are nice. Of course I’ve had moments when I’ve stressed about it but what woman doesn’t? Instead of dwelling on it unhealthily, I try to do something about it, like going to the gym with my husband, or I just try to work out why I’m feeling that way and shake it off.”

Crystal Renn Takes Plus Size to Paris

Crystal Renn at Chanel Spring/Summer 2011Plus size model has stormed the catwalks of Paris Fashion Week.

The curvaceous beauty flaunted her size 14 figure on the runways of legendary French fashion houses and Jean Paul Gaultier. After walking for the Zac Posen ZSpoke show at New York Fashion Week last month, the model has revealed being treated like “any other girl” in Paris has been an “amazing” experience.

“This has been one of the most amazing times of my life. I’ve done one show before, usually as a special guest, but to be working this much is incredible. Being treated as one of the pack, not the plus size model, is a real breakthrough. I’m here being treated like any other girl. It doesn’t matter my size. It doesn’t matter who I am. I’m going on castings like everybody else.”

Crystal admitted the fashion industry is becoming increasingly accepting of those who stray away from the model norm: “I’m still different from most of the girls at the castings but when I first started, the girls were all blonde, all emaciated and miserable looking. Now, there’s more ethnic diversity. The girls are not as skinny as before. You do see size 10s and a couple size 12s. There is change happening in the industry. There is more allowance for people to be different. I’m so impressed. I can’t wait for next season.”

Kelly Osbourne Cried at Shape Bikini Shoot

Kelly OsbourneFashion police cried after her first bikini shoot.

The TV star - who has dropped to a US size 2 following her appearance on last year’s - admitted she was so “thrilled” by her svelte figure, she was reduced to tears.

“I just shot the cover of Shape magazine, which as such an incredible experience. I have never worn a bikini in my life before yesterday. I never even thought of wearing one! I cried when I saw the picture. Everyone that was there, we all just burst into tears. It was a thrilling experience.”

The newly-single blonde - who ended her engagement with Luke Worrall in July amid claims the model had cheated on her - explained while she finds sticking to her new exercise regime easy, she still can’t believe sample sizes fit her.

“I just commit to half an hour a day. It doesn’t seem overwhelming and I can handle that. I do half an hour on the treadmill and when I feel like doing more, I’ll do a few sit-ups and some weights. Now every designer will send me anything that I want, and I can’t believe that I am in this situation. I opened up all of these zip bags last night from Marchesa - off the runway -  and I can’t believe that it fits me.”
