Quote of the Day: Lily Allen on Fame

Posted by Robin Paulson Categories: Music, Rants,

Kimberly Stewart, Kelly Osbourne, and Lily Allen

"I feel like when I was growing up and dreaming of being a pop star, it was the days of Britpop when things felt authentic and anarchic and people were taking drugs and having a lot of fun and having sex with each other. So excuse me if I found it a bit disappointing when I arrived and it was a bunch of sterile f***ing Botoxed idiots that stank of desperation."

- Pop star Lily Allen reflects on the kind of people she used to be friends with before she married and became a mother.

Keira Knightley: Feminism isn’t a “Dirty Word”

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Movies, Features,

Keira Knightley on the cover of 'Harper's Bazaar'Keira Knightley is glad feminism is no longer a "dirty word."

The 28-year-old actress thinks the world is becoming more open to talking about equality for women and she is pleased people are able to discuss issues maturely. "I think it's great, what's happening at the moment, I think it's great that the discussions are finally being allowed to be had, as opposed to anybody mentioning feminism and everybody going, 'oh, f***ing shut up,'" she told Harper's Bazaar. "Somehow, it became a dirty word. I thought it was really weird for a long time, and I think it's great we're coming out of that."

However, the Anna Karenina star suggested the film industry has a "long way to go" to prove women are truly equal. She noted the number of female lead roles are limited in Hollywood, and thinks actresses should have more opportunities. "Hollywood has a really long way to go. I don't think that anybody can deny that, really, and I think as much as you are getting more women playing lead roles... they're still pretty few and far between," she added.

Lady Gaga: You Don’t Need to Look Like a Supermodel to Be Great

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Music, Clothing, Style, Features,

Lady GagaLady Gaga has urged women to stop worrying about their weight because people who achieve great things do not have to look like "supermodels."

The 27-year-old pop superstar has suffered with fluctuating weight throughout her career and has been criticized for being both too thin and overweight. But Gaga has dismissed society's obsession with women's figures and insists it's time people concentrated on what they're going to do with their lives rather than what they look like.

"I want to remind everyone that people who win Nobel Peace Prizes and cure diseases are not supermodels. Your legacy does not need to be a perception of beauty that's not realistic," she said in February's Fashion Magazine.

Although Gaga is now one of the world's biggest singers she insists she would still be wearing eccentric outfits and pushing the boundaries of pop if she was an unsigned artist playing in bars and small venues in her native New York City because music is her life. "There's this implication that if I wasn't so successful I would have to stop. But I never would have stopped. I would be in some bar; being Lady Gaga," she explained.

Miley Cyrus

"I went from people just thinking I was, like, a baby to people thinking I'm this, like, sex freak that really just pops molly and does lines all day. It's like, 'Has anyone ever heard of rock 'n' roll?' There's a sex scene in pretty much every single movie, and they go, 'Well, that's a character.' Well, that's a character. I don't really dress as a teddy bear and, like, twerk on Robin Thicke, you know?"

Simon Cowell Tells Russell Brand to Give Up His Money

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Movies, Music, Television, Rants,

Simon CowellRussell BrandSimon Cowell has told Russell Brand to give up his multi-million pound salary if he's serious about his new political beliefs.

The music mogul has criticized the comic star for accepting large salaries for his Hollywood films, while also campaigning against the political system in the UK. Russell, 48, recently joined a protest with British activist group Anonymous as part of a worldwide protest against austerity cuts and the disadvantages of the current socio-economic system.

But Simon thinks Russell is a hypocrite who doesn't do what he says and has actually greatly benefited from capitalism. "A revolution? He's getting $10 million a movie. I mean come on! Well give your money back then, Russell. I always say that about people. Start off as you mean to go on. Donate all the money back to the revolution and then I'll believe it. I'm living in a $10 million mansion and I want a revolution? Give me a break," said the X Factor boss.

Ethan Hawke Doesn’t Believe in Monogamy

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Movies, Features,

Ethan HawkeEthan Hawke thinks most people have a "childish view" of monogamy.

The 43-year-old actor, who has two daughters, Clementine, five, and Indiana, three, with his wife Ryan Shawhughes, and two children, Maya, 15, and Levon, 11, with his ex-wife Uma Thurman, thinks there should be more to marriage than sexual fidelity but insists he is committed to his marriage.

"My relationship with my present wife is thrilling to me and I'm committed to it. But neither she nor I know what shape the future will come in. Sexual fidelity can't be the whole thing you hang your relationship on. If you really love somebody you want them to grow, but you don't get to define how that happens. They do," the Getaway star told the November issue of Mr. Porter magazine.

"People have such a childish view of monogamy and fidelity. 'He's cheated so he's bad, she's cheated so she's bad,' as opposed to a recognition that our species is not monogamous. To act all indignant, that your world has been rocked because your lover wasn't faithful to you, is a little bit like acting rocked that your hair went grey. Human beings are sexual beings," he added.
