Patrick Swayze Memoir Due Out This Fall

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Movies,

Patrick Swayze and Lisa NiemiEven though he’s already opened up to Barbara Walters, still has a lot of story left to tell.

The 56-year-old and Lisa Niemi, his wife of 30 years, are currently working on a memoir that will hit the shelves this fall. According to Atria Books, the currently untitled project “will offer an intimate account of Patrick Swayze’s childhood, career and marriage, as well as his brave fight against a diagnosis of stage-four pancreatic cancer, from which he has gleaned wisdom and has remained resolutely optimistic.”

Lisa will also contribute passages about her experience “helping a loved one battle a life-threatening disease.”

Swayze says his intention is to help those who might benefit from the book. “With everything I’ve been fortunate enough to do in my life, and covering such a wide range of diverse subject matters, I’m told that my story has been inspirational to people,” the actor said in a statement. “I will write from my heart about these experiences and aside from the sheer pleasure of doing it, if people happen to garner inspiration from it, or incentive, or find a new way to love, it would be wonderful.”

Patrick SwayzeUPDATE: Swayze is now out of the hospital and back at home.

Just days after the broadcast of his Barbara Walters interview, Patrick Swayze was unfortunately absent at a press gathering for his new show.

At today’s event before the Television Critics Association, A&E execs informed the audience that The Beast star was being treated for pneumonia. “ has checked himself into the hospital. However, he asked us specifically to go forward with today’s panel. We wish him the very best with his recovery,” president Abbe Raven stated.

Swayze, 56, announced last March that he had been diagnosed with inoperable pancreatic cancer. Despite his status, the actor has already outlived many tabloid timelines and was able to complete a whole season of his new series.

Patrick Swayze’s Health Update

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Movies, Photos,

Patrick SwayzeThose familiar with ‘s health situation were all pleased to see the actor out in public this past weekend. The Dirty Dancing star, who revealed earlier this year that he had pancreatic cancer, attended a Lakers playoff game with his wife on Friday. Although it was hard not to notice Patrick’s obvious weight loss, the 55-year-old looked remarkably well.

In a statement given exclusively to People, Swayze says his treatment has allowed him to carry on with normal activities:

“Thought I’d give you guys a little update. Lisa and I have been back and forth from New Mexico enjoying the arrival of spring and new baby calves. This past weekend, we spent a fun time with friends in Reno for Lisa’s birthday, where I took her jewelry shopping at Kenny G & Company and (we) were able to find her something really special and much deserved! In the meantime, I am continuing treatment at Stanford and the great news is I continue to respond well.”

Huh. Wasn’t there a tabloid out there that said Swayze only had five weeks to live? You show ‘em, Patrick!

Patrick Swayze Still Smoking Despite Cancer

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Movies, Photos, Editorials,

Although I first saw this photo last week, I have grown increasingly more angry over the past few days.  Please someone tell me—why is still smoking?

Even though the actor was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in late January, this picture of him lighting up was taken just seven days ago.  Smoking is believed to be one of the possible risk factors behind the disease.

Let’s hope Swayze is really doing all he can to fight this illness.
