Wentworth Miller “Feeding a Fantasy” Before Coming Out

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Movies, Television, Features,

Wentworth MillerWentworth Miller felt he was "feeding a fantasy" before announcing that he is gay.

The former Prison Break star, who opened up about his sexuality for the first time last August, says he has a better relationship with his fans now.

"I feel more fully expressed. After Prison Break, I came to grips with the fact that my public persona was in misalignment with how I actually felt. I was out to a handful of people in my twenties, and once I hit 30, I was out to family and friends. But professionally, I was feeding a fantasy. I created this air of 'We don't address that thing,'" the 42-year-old actor told Details magazine.

Asked if he felt like he was lying about his sexuality in the past, he said, "My face was on billboards, and I thought it was my job to act a certain way. But I think audiences knew to a certain degree. The people onscreen aren't the characters they're playing. They're our projection of who we want them to be. I think it's possible to have a man-crush if you're not gay or to have a crush on a guy you know to be gay if you're a woman."

Ellen Page Overwhelmed by Support

Ellen PageEllen Page admits the support she has received since coming out has "blown her mind."

The X-Men: Days of Future Past actress revealed she is gay at the Human Rights Campaign's Time to Thrive conference in February and admits she expected to be subjected to some "vicious" comments afterwards.

"I've experienced basically nothing but support, it's actually really kind of blown my mind. I thought there would be a lot more viciousness," she said.

The 27-year-old star admitted she was "afraid" to make the revelation because of the expected backlash, and she thinks it is "beautiful" so many people have had kind things to say: "Maybe that's because you're afraid and for some reason you have this perspective, because of probably your own anxiety. So to me, that's been the most beautiful thing, because it's so indicative of the change that's happened and the growth that's happening. For me, it's been basically nothing but support."

Ricky Martin Wishes He Could Come Out Again

Ricky MartinRicky Martin wishes he could come out as homosexual again.

The "Livin' La Vida Loca" singer claims he was initially terrified at how his peers would react to the news - after keeping his sexuality a secret until he was 38 - but claims the experience was extremely liberating and he longs to relive it a second time.

"I was terrified. I had to really work on my self esteem to understand that it's all about self love, and other people's opinions weren't what was important. What WAS important was accepting myself exactly as I am, as I was born. I insist, it wasn't easy, but wow, I wish I could come out again because it felt like I could 'high five' God [sic]," he said, speaking during a Facebook chat with fans.

The 41-year-old singer also said he was a keen supporter of Miley Cyrus and suggested the star's wild antics are a reflection of her growing up in the music industry: "I LOVE MILEY! #TEAMMILEY all the way. She's a young woman living the moment with music...i wish her nothing but the best [sic]."

Portia de Rossi Struggled to Understand Her Sexuality

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Television, Features,

Portia de RossiPortia de Rossi "didn't want" to be a lesbian.

The 40-year-old actress was very nervous about publicly coming out, something she did in 2005, because she always thought that being gay was "strange" and also because she didn't know any famous women who were openly lesbians. In a revealing interview on The Conversation With Amanda De Cadenet, she said, "I just didn't want to be a lesbian. I'd never met one for a start and I just thought they were strange and that they hated men and they were very serious and I had these ridiculous images in my head and there were no out celebrities or politicians or anybody that I could look to and go, 'Oh, I could be like that.' There was nobody that I could say, 'I could date her and I want to be like her.' I just kind of thought I don't want to live like this. I don't have to, I don't need to, I just shut down the emotional life."

Not coming out had a very negative effect on Portia's life. The actress battled different eating disorders while she was starring in Ally McBeal from 1998 to 2002, and she believes they were symptoms of her hiding her sexuality. "The thing that kept me company was my eating disorder. It was like a lover, it was like somebody who never ever left me. Like a thought that would always keep me excited, interested and focused. It's adrenaline," she explained.

Dominic Purcell, who played the 41-year-old actor's brother in Prison Break from 2005 until 2009, has praised the British-born star for opening up about his sexuality for the first time this week as he took a stand against Russia's recent anti-gay legislation by refusing to attend the St. Petersburg International Film Festival.

"As a friend and someone I care for deeply, I am very proud of Wentworth. I wish him much happiness and peace. I applaud his courage and his stance against a wrongful, archaic ideology," the 43-year-old actor told UsMagazine.com.

A number of celebrities, including Neil Patrick Harris and Ellen DeGeneres, also took to Twitter to show their support for Wentworth after he wrote a letter on Wednesday to the organizers of the film festival stating he could not "in good conscience" attend the event because of the country's stance.

Zachary Quinto Wants Children

Jonathan Groff and Zachary QuintoZachary Quinto "definitely" wants to have children.

The Star Trek actor - who is dating Glee hunk Jonathan Groff - admits he does not let his sexuality put him off starting a family and is very keen to have kids eventually: "I'm incredibly happy, I'm incredibly lucky. I definitely want kids. I want to share."

Zachary decided to come out in October 2011, and is glad he did so as "no good" could come from him keeping his being gay a secret. "One of the defining conversations that I had with myself was that absolutely no good can come from me staying quiet about my sexuality. Literally, no good can come from it. But if I take the step to make the acknowledgement and be honest, so much good could potentially come from it," he told Out.

The What's My Number? star previously revealed he decided to come out as a gay man after performing in the play Angels in America - which discusses the effect of the AIDS crisis: "Doing that play made me see how fortunate I am to have been born when I was. And to not have to witness the decimation of an entire generation of amazingly talented and otherwise vital men. And at the same time, as a gay man, it made me feel like I - there's still so much work to be done."
