Joan Jett for PETA

Joan Jett unveiled her first campaign for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) on Sunday night. The "I Love Rock 'n' Roll" singer attended the unveiling of the advert in Florida and she was also presented with the Nanci Alexander Activist Award, named after PETA's founder, by fellow rocker Iggy Pop.

"Joan takes every opportunity to talk about the importance of being kind to animals, and she's among the most dedicated activists I've had the pleasure of knowing. People listen when this star talks. She's had a positive influence on countless fans," PETA UK founder Ingrid E Newkirk said.

Naomi Campbell Thinks Cadbury is Racist

Naomi Campbell

Move over, Disney. There’s a new mega-corporation getting sued in town. Cadbury, the second-largest confectionary in the world, made the mistake of using Naomi Campbell, indirectly, in an ad campaign. And she’s just not having it.

A new ad featuring their Dairy Milk Bliss Bar has the words “Move over Naomi, there’s a new diva in town” as a tagline. Cute, right? Wrong. According to Campbell, it’s racist.

“I am shocked,” the model overreacted. “It’s upsetting to be described as chocolate, not just for me, but for all black women and black people as a race. I do not find any humor in this. It’s insulting and hurtful.” She has also stated that she may be pursuing legal action against the company. Possibly she’s being a wee bit dramatic? Follow the jump to see the ad that's causing all the trouble...

Gap Proceeds with Jennifer Hudson Ad Spots

Jennifer Hudson for The Gap

The day after Halloween, the Christmas season began. It will not end until January (decorations and store returns linger for days after the actual event). And since retailers are constantly trying to skip Halloween altogether and start the buy-friendly holiday as early as September, the Gap has moved ahead with their ad campaign. In the ads, potential customers will see a smiling, red-swathed spreading her holiday spirit. For some viewers, it feels at odds with Hudson’s tragic .

Could the Gap really be this tacky?

Never worry, holiday shoppers, this mega retailer would never step into a potential PR landmine without covering all the bases. A rep for the chain has confirmed that Jennifer Hudson herself approved the use of her image, even at this upsetting time.

“She said she wanted to be a part of it and that we should move forward,” said Gap spokesperson Olive Doyne, who added that Hudson was given the option of backing out of the campaign completely. The Oscar-winning actress was photographed for the spots last July.

You can see her, part of the “Shine Your Own Star” campaign, smiling from magazines, newspapers and billboards throughout this shopping season. Several other stars are also part of the campaign.

John McCain in the Spotlight

John McCain

For a man who seems to shun celebrity, certainly has been in the media a lot lately - and little of the coverage has to do with his policy or his plans for the country. The republican will now get more attention for a wholly different reason…he’s being sued.

McCain’s political strategy, thus far, has been to undermine presidential competitor by calling him that dirtiest of all words - a celebrity. In the ads, McCain shows clips of Obama with his adoring public while the Jackson Browne hit “Running on Empty” plays in the background. Here’s the problem: McCain never got permission to use the song.

Entertaining Politics

John McCain, Barack Obama

Politicians are not celebrities. Celebrities are not politicians. ...Or, are they? The fur is really starting to fly in the election. Presidential candidate has likened to Britney Spears and Paris Hilton. Rappers who support Obama have released tracks dissing John McCain. What happens when politics and celebrity mix? Nothing good.

In one of his political ads, McCain seems to be trying to undermine Obama as a presidential contender - calling him a star instead of the vehicle of change Obama claims to be. It isn’t odd for politicians to use celebrities to further their own cause, and it isn’t even odd for celebrities to decide to become politicians.

So maybe it’s even the norm for celebrities and politics to mix…but should they? Sometimes, celebs can do much more harm than good when they back a certain candidate.

San Francisco Welcomes David Beckham’s Sexy Ad

David Beckham in Emporio Armani

Last night, the ladies and gents of San Francisco got front row seats to the most appealing thing ever seen at Macy’s.

The Emporio Armani banner - featuring in the brand’s underwear - unfurled in front of a large group of gawkers who had no immediate plans to purchase the product…and probably never will. But that’s so nice of Armani to try anyway.

You can more find gratuitous shots of Beckham in his briefs after the jump.
