I believe we have officially hit the trifecta now.  In the past 24 hours, we’ve had a broken engagement, a dissolved divorce and now a marriage-to-be.

These two lovebirds hinted a short time ago that this day would come, and now it finally has: Pete Wentz and Ashlee Simpson are officially engaged.

Back in February, Ashlee said her promise ring simply meant her beau hadn’t asked her father for permission yet.  (I’m guessing that exchange has already happened and that Pete made it out alive.)

In a statement to her fans, Ashlee said:

“Yes, we are thrilled to share that we are happily engaged. Thank you for all of your support and well wishes – it means the world to us. We consider this to be a very private matter, and we wanted to be the first to tell you and to hear it straight from us.”

While I definitely have opinions about a 23-year-old and a 28-year-old getting married these days, I will keep them to myself.  The best of luck to them both.
