Sunday Ratings: No Improvement from CW’s Lineup

Last night, the CW got some good news and bad news. The bad news? Despite renting out its Sunday time slots to Media Rights Capital, the network saw no improvement in ratings. The good news? It really didn’t do much worse than before. By night’s end, CBS was a winner with the viewers while ABC wound up tied with NBC in the demos.

Sunday Ratings: Desperate Housewives Has Welcome Return

Despite being down approximately 5% since last year, the retooled Desperate Housewives was easily last night’s best draw. Unfortunately, the show couldn’t fight off the Bears and Eagles alone. NBC - with the help of Sunday Night Football - was once again tops in both categories last night.

Season premieres: The Big Bang Theory, Boston Legal, CSI: Miami, Dancing with the Stars, Heroes, How I Met Your Mother, Two and a Half Men, Worst Week

  • Dancing with the Stars (ABC, 8pm):  Special two-hour premiere. “The season begins with 13 new celebrities.” Any time a reference is made about ’s butt or cut foot, take a drink.
  • Two and a Half Men (CBS, 9pm): “Charlie runs into an ex-girlfriend whose son bears a striking resemblance to him.” As if Charlie Sheen really needed to get involved in another custody issue.
  • Heroes (NBC, 9pm):  Special two-hour premiere. “Suresh makes an important breakthrough.” It’s taken him two seasons to realize how boring his character is.
  • Worst Week (CBS, 9:30pm):  Series premiere. “Disaster-prone Sam Briggs, and his girlfriend, Melanie, visit her parents – who don’t like Sam – to tell them that they are engaged and expecting a child.” It’s always good to get the disappointing news out all at once.

Sunday Ratings: NBA Scores for ABC

Game Two between the Boston Celtics and the Los Angeles Lakers was by far the most exciting thing on TV yesterday. Up against mostly repeats, ABC easily had a hold on the night.

Sunday Ratings: Regis Philbin A Primetime Hit

Apparently Regis Philbin’s appeal is not limited to daytime hours. The host (and his Million Dollar Password) helped CBS win the viewers last night. Meanwhile, NBC - the only other network with originals yesterday - placed first in the demos.

CBS Cancels Moonlight, Renews Mother

Moonlight cast

Yesterday, we named those shows recently cut by the major networks.  Now we know which CBS programs will be added to that dreaded list.

The freshman dramas receiving the ax include Moonlight and Shark.  Although fans of the vampire series did their best to campaign for the cult fave, their passion simply didn’t equate to ratings.  (I’m sure the network feared they’d end up with another failed Jericho in their hands.)

Meanwhile, those programs being spared include: How I Met Your Mother, The New Adventures of Old Christine, Rules of Engagement and The Unit.  It seems might be good for something after all…
