January Jones: ‘Mad Men’ Was Tough When Pregnant

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Drama, Cable, Features,
January Jones found filming Mad Men tough when she was pregnant. The 35-year-old actress - who is mother to 18-month-old Xander, but refuses to name the father - had her baby bump disguised in a storyline which saw her character, Betty Francis, put on weight because she was unhappy, and the beauty says each day's shooting was hard.
"When we started filming, I was quite pregnant and had to come into work at 3am each day for six or seven hours of prosthetic make-up," she explained. January added she was "afraid" of the response to her changing appearance, but found the reaction by fans was even better than she imagined: "I was very afraid of how that first episode would look when it aired, but I loved the audience response to her. When she's bigger, viewers are more sympathetic to her."

Three Mad Men stars -- January Jones, Elisabeth Moss, and Vincent Kartheiser -- are in final talks to ink their two-year contracts, which secures their roles for the last two seasons of the award-winning series.
While Jones had fewer screen time in season five due to her pregnancy, Moss' character Peggy Olson was largely absent from the Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce offices, leaving fans to question where her storyline will go next if Moss remains for another two seasons. Series creator Matthew Weiner shed some light on Peggy's arc (spoilers after the jump):

January Jones Thinks Betty Criticism is ‘Harsh’

Posted by Andru Edwards Categories: Daytime, Prime Time, Features,
January Jones feels her Mad Men character is "harshly" judged.
The actress plays the feisty Betty Draper in the hit show and she says the fans' reaction to her actions as been unfair because Betty's husband Don Draper spent most of their marriage having affairs,
"She's judged so harshly. I remember, at the end of season two, she had that random affair in a bar, and the reaction was, 'How could she she have an affair? How could she do that to Don?' I was like, 'Do you watch the show?' I mean the guy has been sleeping with so many other women, talking to Betty's therapist behind her back and all these things... Betty finally gets hers in a bar, and it's like, 'What?'" January said, speaking of Betty's fling with another man.
Betty has also faced criticism for her mothering skills - especially when she slapped her daughter - and January admits the audience is now becoming scared of Betty as the 1960s drama goes on: "I used to have more people come up to me in series one and two, and they were a bit more sympathetic to Betty. I guess when she was more internal with her feelings, you pitied her more. Lately, though, the fans are scared of Betty a bit more - most people are just shielding me from their children."

Quote of the Day: January Jones on Ashton Kutcher’s Acting Advice

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Drama, Prime Time, Cable, Gossip,

“The guy I was dating when I first got to L.A. was not supportive of my acting. He was like, I don’t think you’re going to be good at this. So—f**k you! He only has nice things to say now—if anything, I should thank him. Because the minute you tell me I can’t do something, that’s when I’m most motivated.”
