Is Unhitched Worth Watching?

Posted by Veronica Santiago Categories: Comedy, FOX, Editorial, Video,

UnhitchedThey say you really shouldn’t judge a book by it’s cover.  But you know, in some cases, that time-saving strategy can really tell you a lot.

Case in point:  FOX’s new comedy .  The show (debuting this weekend) almost lured me in with names like Rashida Jones, Craig Bierko and the Farrelly brothers.  But then I saw some teasers.  And now I’m convinced a few seconds has revealed quite enough.  (You can view those clips, after the jump.)

I knew a show that had Bobby and Peter Farrelly (There’s Something About Mary) on board as executive producers could possibly be over the top, but I thought at the very minimum the ‘comedy’ would be funny.  It isn’t.  Both the writing and production feel cheap and Bierko - who I’ve loved in other projects - sticks out like an overacting sore thumb.  Thankfully, (The Office) comes off well in the straight girl role.

Those who do find the following snippets amusing can watch their first full episode this Sunday @ 9:30 on FOX.

Nip/Tuck

MONDAY (10/29)
  • Two and a Half Men (CBS, 9pm):  “Charlie’s girlfriend does not like to be seen with him in public.”  She’s afraid she’ll be attacked by .
  • Samantha Who? (ABC, 9:30):  “Sam assumes her role as a bridesmaid at a friend’s wedding, but upon arriving, she learns that the friend does not want her there.”  If only she knew that before she paid for the dress.
  • The Bachelor (ABC, 10pm):  “The final four contestants bring Brad home to meet their parents.”  The dads all envy his cool beard.
  • Californication (Showtime, 10:30pm):  Season finale.  Hopefully I’ll stop singing the Chili Peppers song now.

News from The Office

Rashida JonesGet ready for the finale of The Office tonight—strangely enough, they filmed four separate endings of the finale and now it’s a little more clear why. As you may recall from last week’s episode, Tim, Michael and Karen were all hopefuls for a big job at corporate. Rashida Jones, who plays Karen, just got word this morning that her Fox pilot has been picked up. Putting two and two together, it seems likely that Karen will get the corporate job over Michael and Jim, so that she can be written off the show. Her new comedy, The Rules for Starting Over also stars Craig Bierko and is the brainchild of the Farrelly brothers. So long Karen, hello Pam/Jim sexual tension. And speaking of Pam… sweetie Jenna Fischer slipped and fell down a staircase on Monday and got pretty banged up. She’s fractured her back in four places, with a recovery time of four to six weeks. Doesn’t sound like a very fun summer for Fischer.

Fox Casting News

Shane WestThe FOX network has announced upcoming pilots, and with the news comes casting details. First up is a drama, called Supreme Courtships, starring Shane West. West can currently be seen on E.R. and was a cast member of ABC’s Once and Again. Of course, no word on whether or not West will stay on E.R. With a name like Supreme Courtships, you can kind of guess the subject matter—Supreme Court clerks and their relationships.

FOX also announced a new comedy, called The Rules of Starting Over, with Craig Bierko and Rashida Jones. The comedy will look at the lives of friends who are jumping back into dating following their divorces. Jones is currently on The Office, and there has been a lot of speculation about how long her role as Jim’s girlfriend will continue. Perhaps her signing on to a new pilot is good news for Pam and Jim fans?
