MONDAY (5/24)
  • How I Met Your Mother (CBS, 8pm):  Season finale. “Marshall and Lily make a vow to try to have a baby if they see Barney’s doppelgänger.” Spotted: Bryan Ryan, a Stinson lookalike, playing the role of Jean Valjean in Les Miserables.
  • Two and a Half Men (CBS, 9pm):  Season finale. “Charlie’s license is suspended and Jake becomes his driver.” A personal driver was a stipulation in Charlie Sheen’s new deal with CBS.
  • Law & Order (NBC, 10pm):  Series finale. “Lupo and Bernard try to locate a blogger who threatened to blow up a school, but the teachers’ union hampers the probe.” Per their contracts, the teachers will only provide assistance when they have a renewed season.

  • 24 (FOX, 9pm):  “Jack’s undercover mission worries his colleagues.” They never thought he’d go so far as to wear a dress.
  • Keeping Up with Kardashians (E!, 10pm):  “Kourtney breaks up with Scott after he gets drunk on Kim’s birthday in Las Vegas.” She always knew he was a douche, but she didn’t realize he was such a lush.
  • Celebrity Close Calls (Biography, 10pm):  “Celebrities recall incidents in which they nearly died. Included: Jane Seymour, Erik Estrada, Leif Garrett and Coolio.” The death of their careers will be covered in Part 2.

How Does the White House Do Iron Chef?

One of the Food Network’s most intense cooking competitions will soon move to Washington, D.C. Address: 1600 Pennsylvania. First Lady has invited Iron Chef America to compete in the House’s kitchens, featuring ingredients from the property’s own vegetable garden.

In the episode, Mrs. Obama will take over the Chairman’s responsibility of unveiling the secret ingredient. The chefs to be featured on the episode include Bobby Flay, Mario Batali and Emeril Lagasse. White House chef Cristeta Comerford will also compete. The biggest disappointment of this - and really, it’s a great idea - is the fact that Morimoto won’t be featured. Bummer.

The End of Emeril Lagasse?

Emeril Lagasse was hardly more than a blip on cable when it began in 1993, with chefs like , and rounding out the programming.  Batali and the network have since parted ways, and now is coming to the end of its reign.

Live, which began 10 years ago, quickly brought attention to the little-known network and turned the host into a household name.  Although the show stops production on December 11, 2007, Lagasse will still be part of the Food Network family.  will continue to air and while the chef himself - who’s still working on new ideas - will remain on hand to take part in food-related specials and shows.

New ‘Iron Chef’ Joins Cooking Ranks

Michael SymonIt all started with an article in the New York Post. First, they reported that and darling Mario Batali (of Molto Mario fame) was being kicked off the network, stripped of his Iron Chef rank and forced to watch as none of his shows were renewed for another season. Next, they reported that Batali would still be seen on the network from time to time, perhaps. Now, Batali has teamed with none other than Gwyneth Paltrow (how did that happen?) to host a new cooking show for American Public TV.

Batali’s departure left a hole in Food Network’s , sparking an eight-episode search for the . Sunday night, under the watchful eye of the remaining Iron Chefs (, Cat Cora and – my favorite) and the chairman, chefs John Besh and Michael Symon competed under the klieg lights of Kitchen Stadium. The mission? Make five course in 60 minutes. The secret ingredient? Swordfish.
