“Grease” Reality Competition to Feature Newton-John

Okay, so Grease: You’re the One that I Want doesn’t immediately sound like a hit. But what if they raised the stakes with the promise that Olivia Newton-John, who starred as Sandy in the film Grease, would be on hand to dole out the complements and criticisms. Hmmm, the show now sounds slightly more interesting to me. And she ought to know what flies and doesn’t in this talent competition—the film was the most successful movie …

Introducing Desperate Housewives Dolls

What could have prompted doll maker Madame Alexander to create a line of Desperate Housewives dolls? The leading ladies—Teri Hatcher, Eva Longoria, Felicity Huffman, Marcia Cross, and Nicollette Sheridan—will each have a likeness of themselves in 16-inch plastic. I ask you, who will these dolls be marketed to? Are they simply a novelty item, or does the doll maker actually expect these things to fly off of the shelves? We shall find out soon enough, …

Wow, here are two shows that have legs. I mean, I can remember both of these when I was a kid, and that was ages ago! Seriously though, both Jeopardy! and Wheel of Fortune have been around since the mid-70s and this latest announcement proves that the shows’ concepts translate through the years. The renewal will take both game shows through 2012, with CBS Television Distribution giving each a two-year extension of their current deal. …

Studio 60’s DVR Viewership

I found this bit of news particularly interesting because I can relate. Seems Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip is getting a large portion of viewership from those who record the show on DVR and watch it later. Count me as one of those viewers. I typically record it because I watch What About Brian during that timeslot. Last season, What About Brian was so great, but this season—eh. Studio 60, on the other hand, …

As a fan of all things Scrubs, I can barely contain my excitement over the upcoming YouTube preview from the series’ musical episode. On December 29th, a sneak peek of the song “Everything Comes Down to Poo” will be available to view on YouTube. The song is performed by Zach Braff, Donald Faison and Stephanie D’Abruzzo (who guest stars in the musical episode). If you haven’t already, check out the video “Guy Love” on YouTube. …

Remember Taxicab Confessions? If you’re not familiar with it, it’s like the equivalent of getting toasted at the local bar and spilling your indiscretions to the bartender. Only it’s in a cab and a hidden camera catches the whole thing. Taxicab Confessions originated on HBO in 1995 and was a long-running, Emmy winning series for the cable network. Bravo will begin airing three new episodes on Friday, December 29th. Then on New Year’s Eve, they …

Ring in the New Year With Ugly Betty

ABC Family will be running a marathon of Ugly Betty on New Year’s Eve, kicking off the “Be Ugly in ‘07” campaign. ABC’s campaign asks Americans to rise to the challenge to “be real, be smart, be passionate and be true to yourself” like Betty’s character. Good luck with that. Aside from the campaign, the marathon is excellent news for those who may have missed this little gem of a series. This is a great …

Seacrest, Daly Not Competing for New Year’s Eve

A bit of a slow entertainment news day when a possible rivalry between Carson Daly and Ryan Seacrest is a headline. The rumor that the two are competing for the coveted New Year’s Eve gig that Dick Clark has hosted for oh-so-many years was quickly dismissed by both Daly and Seacrest. Dick Clark, who made the ‘‘New Year’s Rockin’ Eve’’ show an institution, suffered a stroke two years ago. In his place, uber-host Ryan Seacrest …

FilmCrunch 013: The Lake House Review

Neil Estep and Veronica Santiago review The Lake House, which sees Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock team up again. Speed co-stars Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves reteam for romance in director Alejandro Agresti’s remake of the Korean film Siworae, exploring a mysterious mailbox that somehow bridges time. After moving away from her peaceful lakeside home, a lonely physician (Bullock) begins writing letters to the frustrated architect (Reeves) who now occupies the building, only to discover that …
